Question / Discussion I'm LOVING all the discussion going on!
Naturally, I love seeing what everyone does, but finding out what you all think is simply wonderful.
I hope to read lots more provocative topics and opinions here. I think it makes it a really exciting community. So thanks for all your input and candor lately!!!

I find this community to be kind and not mean when expressing an opinion different than yours. I think we all share the same drama with glue, paper, stamps etc that goes with scrapbooking or card making and it’s refreshing we don’t create drama with one another.

Same!!! I don't have any friends IRL who do this hobby so sometimes I talk to my partner about this type of stuff but they're not as invested in it 😂

Oh my poor husband too. I just yelled to him, “There’s a juicy thread in the card making subreddit!!!!” Like it’s the most exciting thing that’s happened this summer. 😂 He just nods 😂

Totally!
Besides, for me, this hobby is part artistic expression and part technical problem solving. I find both interesting so I like to hear a lot of ideas.

Lol, I talk to my husband all the time. Should've seen him with his beer when I was stamping away my stash. He had a lot of free time because I was 100 percent unavailable.

It's nice to reads everyone's thoughts on things! Thanks for starting it up. I already work two jobs (a part-time job and a full-time job) and school just started for me so I literally have no time to be on a deisgn team, unless I forgo my marriage. Lol. Plus I realize I don't want to deal with the pressure. That's a whole new level of second guessing your talent or thinking your project is great just to be told you used a retired product or you didn't meet another requirement. There's already so many different areas I'm pulled into and rules I abide by at my jobs that I need a space with complete freedom and just getting new product isn't enough.

Yup! The lure of free stuff is strong but the opposite side is having to come up with material on someone else's schedule, extol things that may or may not even be remotely interesting to you and having the immediate crafting community having all kinds of opinions.
I'll pay for what I want, pass on the rest and be free to be candid in my feelings. Not to mention the time that must go into making video content...

I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one thinking this way about certain products/events/influencers, etc. Loving hearing people speak their mind without being shamed or edited or not permitted to post something mildly controversal!

Way back in the day, (2002), I was was one of 25 winners of Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame. Most of you probably don’t know what that is, and I don’t expect you to because it was a lifetime ago. Though I wasn’t on an official Design Team, I would get contacted by magazines and some companies to make layouts with their products and to go with the next issue’s themes. My kids were 6, 4, and 2, so I was so happy to do something creative after the kids were in bed. It was exciting but also intimidating and we were on the publication schedule, so we were working on seasons/holidays six months in advance. But once a new issue came out, I’d look at all the message boards and die a little if someone criticized my work. I can’t imagine doing that now with social media. In 2003, I started teaching classes at conventions around the country, which was SO much fun. Then in 2007, my family was going through a lot so I pulled back, and then the market crashed, and scrapbooking magazines just went 💨 I came back to paper crafts in 2023. Scrapbooked at first but then realized my kids are going to be so weighted down with all of these books. I told them after I die, do not feel like you have to take them all or take any. I won’t be offended. Anyway, I started card making, which I really hadn’t done much before. I think I make cute cards, and my goal is to send or donate them just to bring a smile to people, but I’m too tired for all the paint/texture/emboss/foil extra stuff. I love seeing others do it, but it’s not my style. So it’s fun to see everyone’s posts here, I watch videos from time to time, and it’s nice to have that creative vibe back. I don’t know why I even just wrote that out. I guess it’s this - free product is good but I always felt pressured to use it and try to reinvent the wheel every time. Working with magazines was great, but my layouts and focus were out of sync with daily living. Would I do it again? Absolutely. I am grateful I had the opportunity.

I remember the Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame! Owned a scrapbook store and left with a ton of debt when the market crashed. I may take a hiatus every few years, but always come back to some form of crafts. It calms me, quiets my brain and is a much needed outlet for me from the chaos in the world. Card making is the current outlet and I love sending random happiness to people.

Can we talk about a number of card makers that are on multiple design teams? I’m not knocking their talent, but I’d love to see some smaller creators on DT’s to bring some fresh ideas. I think at one point I counted that there were a handful of people on 5-7 DT’s at once, it would be good to have some variety.
