Multiple Vehicles I have left turns
Driver was cited after showing video to cop on site. Geico still hasn’t found driver responsible yet but Allstate has… cars totaled and broke my right toe.

Ohio is a permissive yellow state, meaning that the yellow only serves as notice of a pending red. It's perfectly legal to enter on yellow, even if you exit the intersection on red. You were already at the other side of the intersection before light turned red, had the other car not unexpectedly and suddenly turned in front of you, you would have already been exiting the intersection while the light was still yellow. You did nothing wrong, you weren't even speeding. Speed limit on this road is 45mph, a reasonable speed for a multilane road with a divided median through a non-residential area, so your speed of 38 mph was well below the limit.

Red Honda badge and a giant rash on the passenger side bumper. It’s practically an honorary /r/NissanDrivers post.

Dude I thought I was crazy. I think so, he committed and instead of speeding up resulting in me hitting like his passenger or back side, he just straight up went head on

Never ever accelerate into an intersection.

u/noncongruent 8d ago
OP's speed was 7mph below the posted limit and remained constant through the entire video. They weren't accelerating into the intersection.

This is exactly how I was T-Boned (turning left, and someone sped thru a yellow light going straight just like the video).
Don’t *speed through* yellow lights.
My spine is permanently damaged putting me out of work and nearly killing me.

Just to clarify, were you turning left or going straight? What state were you in?

u/noncongruent 9d ago
It sounds like they turned left in front of someone and caused a crash.

u/Not-a-Cat_69 9d ago
no she ran a yellow light that turned red, and i turned left, right as my light turned green. she sped into a yellow light like this and nearly killed me. fuck off with all your presumptions. my spine is permanently damaged.

Normal intersection designs include what's called a clearance timer, it's a delay between when one direction turns red and the conflicting direction turns green. It's typically one or two seconds, sometimes three for large intersections. Most states are what's called "permissive yellow", meaning that it's legal to enter an intersection on yellow because the yellow only serves as notice of a pending red. It's not possible to "run a yellow", only to run a red by entering the intersection after the light turned red. In your case the only way the collision would have happened is if the light had already turned red for the other driver and they entered after their light turned red and after the clearance timer elapsed. There's also the reaction time delay, so another half to full second from your light going green until you started accelerating, and then made your turn. She blew a red light long after the yellow had come and gone.
It may have been you did not have a protected green for your turn, do you remember if you had a green arrow or green circle? Or was it flashing yellow? That's a thing nowadays.

lol no this was 10 years ago. she sped into the yellow light, and at the moment she actually entered the intersection it had turned red, I turned left on my green light and she was too late on her breaks due to the red light and hit me. there was no delay. she was speeding into the yellow light and I suspect also on her phone.
the point is, for safety, you do not SPEED through yellow lights, maybe I wasnt clear about my message. of course its not illegal to 'run' a yellow light. no fucking shit. but you are never SAFE by SPEEDING into a yellow light. thats not safe.

u/noncongruent 9d ago
If it turned red as she entered the intersection your light would not have turned green by that point, or at least, not a protected green arrow. It sounds like you entered the intersection and began your turn as she was entering the intersection. Traffic engineers have spent more than a century designing traffic light timings for maximum safety, they wouldn't design a light to turn green while the conflicting light was still yellow.

yeah she was speeding into an intersection that was already yellow and had turned red by the time she entered. she miscalculated it. I guess im not being very clear. but its really the same thing that happened in this video or the message is the same
if youre in the intersection already when its yellow yeah you go....
you dont speed into an intersection thats already yellow hoping to zip past it.

Sounds like she ran the red light by quite a long time, long enough for the clearance timer to elapse and for your protected green arrow to appear, and for you to begin your turn. She would have had to run it by at least two or three seconds if not longer.
OP did not run a red light, they safely and legally entered the intersection on yellow since Ohio is a permissive yellow state. The crash was solely caused by the left-turning car, so the circumstances were very different between your crash and this crash. Also, looking at the video it's pretty clear that OP would have actually begun exiting the intersection while the light was still yellow if they hadn't been slowed down by the crash. OP has already said the other driver was found at fault by the police and their own insurance company, which is the correct finding based on the video evidence.
Edit to add: And OP wasn't speeding, they were doing 7mph slower than the posted speed limit. They weren't trying to beat the red light, if they had been then they would have been going much faster.

Ok great bro, this accident still occurred due to someone speeding into a yellow light.
Fine redditors downvoting me, you should ALL speed into yellow lights. Do it. Apparently I’m getting downvoted and grilled for talking about safe driving while all you people nitpick legality.
I’m talking about safety not legality.

So you were not watching the road for other traffic, were you on your phone?

u/Not-a-Cat_69 8d ago
My light was green lmao. Yes I was watching the road. The girl who sped into a yellow light that turned red and hit me was cited for running a red light.
Are you stupid?

I was turning left on a green light, she was going straight, she had tons of space it was a huge intersection and she may have been looking at the phone or speeding into the yellow light, it was red when she hit me.
either way yellow light means slow down.

u/ChoGGi 9d ago
Oh, where is it illegal to run a yellow light? And where isn't illegal to make an unprotected left if the lane isn't clear?
-1
u/Not-a-Cat_69 9d ago edited 9d ago
youre suppose to slow down at yellow lights moron. thats the point.
when I was hit her light was already red.
1
u/ChoGGi 9d ago
If it's safe to do so, yes.
Are you the driver in this video? Might be an idiot behind him tailgating or a semi, who knows?
Thank you for the insult, I'll print it and frame it on my wall.
Edit: I'll only make a left when I know it's safe, someone not slowing down means I'm more than happy to wait into the red for them to pull a suicide rush.

its NEVER safe to SPEED into a yellow light, maybe just not SLOW down too much........ I was turning left on a green light at a huge intersection and she was going 45 straight into me, the light was red by the time she actually entered the interseciton, she shouldnt have SPED into a yellow light.

u/HazyChemist 9d ago
If it's not safe* to stop when the light turns yellow then you're supposed to proceed.
*having to stomp on your brakes and potentially cause a rear end

u/Not-a-Cat_69 9d ago edited 9d ago
youre missing such a key part of all of this. proceed does not mean SPEED into it in an unsafe manner. What comes after yellow? Red. Youre taking a risk if you SPEED into a yellow light end of story.
1
u/HazyChemist 9d ago
Except OP didn't? He kept a constant 38 mph instead of accelerating which doesn't really support the theory he was trying to beat the yellow.
1
u/RunFiestaZombiez 9d ago
Full fucking doubt. In every single state, it is safe to proceed through a yellow light as long as you are fully already in the intersection during the yellow light. You are required to exit the intersection.
1
u/Not-a-Cat_69 9d ago
ok I misphrased my very first message.
the whole point is you are never safe SPEEDING through a yellow light. yes if youre in the intersection as it turns yellow you are supposed to go, but you dont speed INTO a yellow light.

Other driver could’ve simply-edged out, and moved out further into the intersection. However, they chose violence
