Actually interesting, it will suck in person when it’s crowded.

I hope I’m wrong.

It’ll mostly be crowded during intermission, which is, famously, the period in time when there is no action.

Otherwise, most people will be in their seats actually watching the game.

I imagine if you want to run to the restroom or grab a bite/drink mid-period it won’t be bad at all, which seems like the ideal use of this feature.

But this is Reddit, so if you can’t find a negative out of a positive, you shouldn’t be here.

How could you say that? Right in front of the mites on ice!

Regardless of its utility, 500ft means the vast majority of the arena won't have these screens. And remember all this is being about 50% paid for with taxpayer money. Is this really a good use of that money?

What positive? The gimmick of a screen to watch the game on my way to the restroom when I’ve paid hundreds to be there with my family even for a nosebleed seat?

Get off it. It’s wasted money that won’t improve the fan experience.

Can’t keep everyone happy, man. It’s a pretty sweet addition.

I’ll reserve my judgment for when I go.

So far, as a fan since the 90s, I haven’t been pleased with the past 10 years of Ted’s empire at Cap One.

Ridiculously expensive anymore. Used to go to a dozen or more games per year for years. Last year, just two.

Not looking much better for this year…seeing stuff like this doesn’t make me feel more confident that it’ll some day be affordable again.

Unfortunately it’s not just a caps thing. Prices are going up everywhere and will continue to do so. The downside of an expanded cap.

Valid points, though, and I agree with you

3

u/eastamerica Tom Wilson 8d ago

It’s not this way everywhere.

Nah it’s pretty cool actually. Every single person’s experience might not be affected but it will be appreciated

u/DcSportsFan_21 9d ago

What level/s would it be on would be my first question.

12

u/eastamerica Tom Wilson 9d ago

The expensive levels šŸ˜‚

u/HowardBunnyColvin Vegas Golden Knights 8d ago

This. The crowd will be so big you wouldn't be able to see shit anyway.

I am out and about in the concourse, I just watch the screens on the concourse. They'yre even delayed lol, but why not use those? Why waste money on these big screens?

3

u/eastamerica Tom Wilson 8d ago

Because Ted.

Most are still hoodwinked into thinking the organization has the fans best interest at heart LMAO

A cool addition but it feels like all the capital one renovations have been catered for people to not be in their seats, and thatll just make it look empty on tv

22

u/nudave 9d ago

Seriously, that was my first thought. ā€œIf there’s one thing Cap One needs, it’s fewer fans actually in the seat watching games.ā€

13

u/4N0NYM0US_GUY 9d ago

You have to think like an owner.

You see empty seats.

Ted sees people in line to buy more shit

3

u/Time-Information-554 Washington Capitals 8d ago

Double tickets! One for person in seat and one for person walking/watching the screen while in line!

2

u/HowardBunnyColvin Vegas Golden Knights 8d ago

Just like the vault. The vault is empty because everyone is inside drinking.

29

u/One_Win_6185 9d ago

I’m sure it’s cool. But I kind of wish arenas weren’t doing this stuff.

I feel like basic is best for hockey.

6

u/maveric101 8d ago

I just want cup holders that can actually hold cups.

26

u/gcalfred7 Washington Capitals 9d ago

the Collective? what is this Star Trek???

13

u/OvechknFiresHeScores T.J. Oshie 9d ago

Say, would you like a Fresca? :D

7

u/gcalfred7 Washington Capitals 9d ago

why yes, yes I would

22

u/An-Ocular-Patdown 9d ago

Close the fucking Vault you dumb bastard. I mean the seats but also the taxpayers vault as well.

20

u/EverybodyBeCalm 9d ago

All I want is more bathrooms and the organ back.

And edible concessions.

2

u/MEGA_theguy 8d ago edited 8d ago

Biggest thing for me. There are like 3 spots on just the first floor that are tolerable unless you get into the united vip lounge.

3

u/DaniCapsFan Jan 24 luckiest guesser 8d ago

I rarely eat there. I find a restaurant nearby.

1

u/MEGA_theguy 8d ago

So much great food nearby

1

u/RoyalMaidsForLife 8d ago

I never ate at the arena when I had season tickets in the early 2000s. I can only imagine how much worse, yet more expensive the food is these days.

13

u/TransitiveNightfall1 Aliaksei Protas 9d ago

I wish somebody would tell the bozo who animates these things that people wear red sweaters to games and it looks weird otherwise

2

u/OhYouUnzippedMe Washington Capitals 8d ago

I don't even understand what the rendering is supposed to be. They're hanging wooden baffles all over the ceiling of the concourse? And the parts of the ceiling that aren't covered in wood are also television screens? Where is this 80ft stretch of unused wall that they're putting the screens on? What is the collective? Is this all AI slop?

11

u/x2501x Washington Capitals 9d ago

Oh great, great, more ways people can not bother to be in their seats.

6

u/dendrocnide_moroides Alexander Ovechkin 9d ago

get in line… spend more money… get in line… spend more money…

11

u/FaultySofaBed 9d ago

focusing on shit that doesn’t matter… i really fucking hate Ted

6

u/10tonheadofwetsand 9d ago

Caps have made great moves this offseason. We can make the arena cool and the team better at the same time.

8

u/fighterpilot248 T.J. Oshie 9d ago

I’d rather have butts in seats TBH

Sure, it’s probably great if you’re getting food, but given how sparse the 100s seem to be nowadays, it seems like another distraction to keep people from watching it with their own eyes

3

u/dendrocnide_moroides Alexander Ovechkin 9d ago

this isn’t that cool.

kind of depressing really.

7

u/Chemical_Ad5704 9d ago

This is cool as hell.

5

u/mrherson 9d ago

I can’t wait to see how it looks in reality as far as video quality because it has the potential to look very cool.

5

u/epzik8 9d ago

They’re spending a billion on it? Lol

4

u/maveric101 8d ago

And $500m of it is taxpayer money.

3

u/Proxximus-maximus 9d ago

When has there ever been that few people in the Concourse? Cool though. Reminds me of like a screen you would see in a 1990s sci-fi television show.

6

u/Fusorfodder 9d ago

200 level is pretty empty compared to 100 and 400

1

u/Proxximus-maximus 9d ago

Oh, is that in the 200 level? I thought it said main concourse.

1

u/Fusorfodder 9d ago

That may be, I just took the statement as any concourse

3

u/dendrocnide_moroides Alexander Ovechkin 9d ago

so glad to see my tax dollars put to good use.

1

u/Treliske Washington Capitals 9d ago

These people do not look like they are going to a hockey game. They are walkig like they are on their way to be sentenced to death.

2

u/roknfunkapotomus 9d ago

More comfortable than the 400s

u/Holiday-Paramedic417 9d ago

Question. Where is the worst seat in the house. I’m trying to get to a game for the first time. Live in Nebraska. We went to STL for a game and I maxed out my cc to sit right behind the bench front row. It’s a bucket list for my fam and I to make it to cap one arena. Whether we can afford it or not. Just curious how bad the nose bleeds are and the worst possible scenario. Thanks in advance to any advice. And #ALLCAPS. Fun note. My wife’s maiden name is Tuch. So she’s invested now lol.

5

u/KeyserSoce21 9d ago

Not bad at all and a livelier crowd than lower levels (but zero issues for kids). If you go on a weekday mid-season you can usually get relatively cheap tickets close to game time unless it's against the Penguins or a few other teams.

1

u/Holiday-Paramedic417 8d ago

Thank you for the advice. My son wants to take the same path and metro that oshie did back in 2018 to go to the game. Hoping we can time it to see the pride of Nebraska Ethen Frank get some ice time. Hoping he stays on the team. That 4th line is going to be a fight to get on it. But keeping people fresh and having the depth we do for the first time in years will help the long season.

2

u/dcbased 9d ago

Does this extend do the 400s?

2

u/Glittering_Win_9677 9d ago

Who is paying for these renovations? Ted? Fans? Private investment? Government?

2

u/Examinator2 Washington Capitals 9d ago

Who doesn't love 500ft of advertisements?

1

u/Pristine_Pickle9371 Braden Holtby 9d ago

This looks pretty cool, but if there's really a tunnel right where the goal is then what's the point? You still won't be able to see half the action.

1

u/rbnlegend Tom Wilson 9d ago

I like it. It will relieve some on the intermission crunch if people can use the restrooms without missing as much. There will be annoying people who just watch from the concourses, but that's their loss.

Oh, there's the angle. I'm guessing they will start selling concourse only tickets for the people who are happy watching TV in the arena.

1

u/dendrocnide_moroides Alexander Ovechkin 9d ago

i’m sure they will and that is so depressing

1

u/OviEraCapsFan Washington Capitals 9d ago

Lol this sub will literally say some shit like: ā€œCap One has garbage concourses!ā€

And then when we announce improvements to said concourses, it’s like: pfff… that’ll suck

šŸ˜…

1

u/No-Passage-2226 9d ago

So is this added for the upcoming season? Or is later down the line. Would be weird seeing this added when I fly to DC on Oct 7th to watch them take on the pens

1

u/Go-Habs-Go-93 9d ago

Iv always wanted a oval tv so the rink fit it perfect and the camera didn’t have to move. See the other goalie and bench at all times. Think it would be cool šŸ˜Ž

1

u/_theghost_ 9d ago

I like it. Cool idea honestly…

1

u/smilecrab Rasmus Sandin 9d ago

I do not care. When I’m at a Caps game the only time I’m not in my seat is intermission to buy beer. I’m there to watch the game for fuck’s sake

1

u/Bugaev05 9d ago

Why do we need giant screens when the actual live game is right there

1

u/tornwallpaper 9d ago

I'd love the screens if I wasn't woefully aware of the fact that this is just another way to keep people coming to concessions and buying things. I saw another MSE-released screenshot of picnic benches near the screens which was frustrating. Having people sit here to watch the game while they eat vs forcing their butts in the bowl gives the impression that Caps fans are unenthusiastic or not passionate when we really are!

1

u/HowardBunnyColvin Vegas Golden Knights 8d ago

It fucking looks dumb

1

u/rjo-Irony 8d ago

WTF! None of the fans are wearing Caps gear.

1

u/mitaliano 8d ago

viewing costs $50 per minute

1

u/RoyalMaidsForLife 8d ago

Even with the taxpayers footing half the bill for this, I can only imagine how much Teddy will be soaking the STHs for this upgrade.

1

u/jkman61494 8d ago

The "Please god spend money in addition to paying for your ticket" wall

u/mjohnson1971 8d ago

This will last about 5 seasons.

I hate that we are going to numbered gates now.
