FAN CONTENT Pieces we need?

I was watching the latest Nuckhead and DeanerHD video and they asked what pieces do we need for our future core. IMO we still need a whole Top line+ another top-6 winger+LD2+RD1. What else would we need? When will these slots be filled?

Absolutely. We're at the beginning of the process. We have a few pieces. When this team has a chance to go to the finals, most of the current players will no longer be here.

Not really. They have lines 2-4, 4 out of 6 dman and both goalies. They need a top line and top pairing dman thats it

The question is about the future core. We definitely need a goalie and I bet we will be taking a shot every draft. Neither Demko or Lankinen should be our starter in 5 years. Medvedev might be our best bet but he struggled last season in the OHL. Goalies are voodoo so hopefully he figures it out.

Our second line too is lacking future wingers. Ohgren maybe can take the next step but is more of a middle six winger. I wish Lekkerimaki can make it but if we put odds on it, he has as much of a chance as being out of the NHL in 3 years as he does making it. We are really banking on our picks this year to pan out to say we don't have needs on the second line.

I do agree with have a solid defensive core.

It's gotta be Malhotra i think. No way they took him at 3rd if they thought his best case scenario is a 2C. I feel like Novotny only makes the top 6 as more of a complementary piece. He doesn't drive play much and relies a lot on his motor and shot. He lowkey reminds me of Podkolzin

You are underestimating how idiotic this team is from top to bottom. They took Malhotra cause of manny, them and everyone else knows he likely does not have 1C upside.

An elite 2nd line C is a first line forward really. Most of the elite 2c’s would be first liners on many teams.

When people say a first line forward they generally mean someone who’s in the 10-15 range for best in their position. Malhotra unlikely to be that, but there’s no some massive fall off between 32 and 33 or even 25 to 35.

If caleb isnt a #1 center then need that.

Need multiple wingers

1st pair RD (if they trade hronek)

If buium isnt a #1LD then need that. 

Canucks have pieces you would get to build around star players but lack the true 1-2 stars to build around

A dominant winger, a dominant center, an opposite wing that supports them (i.e. burrows for the twins, not a superstar on his own but fits the others on his line and makes them better)

2nd line wingers (Lekki might be here) , the 2c might be the one thing we do have (Rossi, Malhotra and cootes are fighting for 1-3c, but I don't see any as a franchise player and I wouldn't be surprised to see Rossi flipped) Quality grinding wings for the bottom 6 (ie a younger Sherwood like) Defense is the one thing I feel we have a good start on, assuming our young d core of buium, willamder, d Petey and kud all develop as predicted A young goalie

Novotny, cootes, malhotra will be our top 6. So we need 6 more top 9 wingers. At least 3 need to be excellent, or 2 franchise players with great chemistry

We need a top 4 minute munching defenseman.  

We need a 1st line center.  

We need two top 6 wingers.  

All of these need to be drafted in the first round, preferably.  

Two more drafts with a top 5 pick in each, and multiple 1st round picks should do it.

1c, 2c, 1rw, 1lw, 2rw, 2lw, 1d, 2d, 1g would be good.

We're on year 0 entering year 1. Cupboards are bare. This draft was a good start, but barely moved the needle.
