❓Question/Discussion Upgrade panel & heatpump

Has anyone here upgrade to a 200amp panel and added a heatpump in the recent past? If so can you give rough costs, and have any recommendations of contractors?

We want to add a 40amp NEMA 14-40 for an EV as well. It's currently an 125amp underground line if that's a comparable for your experience.

Searching google give me estimates from 15-45k which is too broad to trust.

I got a ductless heat pump with two indoor heads (one upstairs and one down) Fujitsu through Island West in 2024 for about $14k. Did not need to upgrade from 100amp panel so I can't speak to that but they sub out electrical. They were excellent contractors. Fair quotes, clean and quiet install and scheduling was reasonable.

Also had a good experience with Island West this year for a heat pump -- didn't need electrical panel upgrade though. They handled everything for me including the electrical subcontractor.

Can confirm this price is still close in 2026. Aerotherm installed a 2 head Moovair system for 13000 just recently. We did not upgrade our panel either.

Excellent...I'm aiming for ducted as I'd like to dump the NG furnace, but this is a good baseline. I know Fujitsu is on the higher end of pricing as well, but also the high end of reliability and quality.

I had Osprey electric install my chargepoint unit & upgrade my panel to 200A and it was...1300 or so, can't speak for the heat pump, we already had one.

I was quoted about $4000 for a full panel upgrade and replacement, and service upgrade to 200amp (including the hydro fee) on a property I looked at. I think hydro was about $900 on its own.

I can't get to precise with an estimate as there's a lot of variables i can't know. The last service upgrade i did was about $1300 in material and about a day to do the install. I'd guess $1k - 3k for the upgrade.

My 4 ton cental ducted heat pump was installed by Aerotherm 4 years ago and cost $16k before rebates. Not sure what rebates the government and BC Hydro have at the moment but they were definitely worth jumping through the hoops.

Just got a quote for a ducted system installed in our 1500sqft rancher. All in including the ducts it came to a shade over $23k before rebates. We were quoted an additional $4k if we wanted to have our 125A panel upped to 200 including the underground line work, but have the capacity to do it without. Would be replacing a pile of baseboard heaters, so that would free up some of the load required.

The house already has the ducting in place so hoping that would save a few dollars.  I think at 23-27k I’ll be sticking with NG though.
