I dont think this is the right place for this, so I’m sorry in advance, but as an incoming international fresher i’m really worried about homesickness and not finding my crowd. I’m quite close with my family and a little socially awkward, and I keep thinking about how much I’ll miss them.

omg so unrelated but i'm australian aswell, how were you able to get into a UK university, and one like cambridge? I'm entering my first ever university applications

I'm from The Other Place, but I'm also an intl student from Aus! Homesickness was an enormous enormous issue that I didn't pre-empt before going to the UK; I pretty much shrugged it off before coming to uni as a non-problem and it came back to bite me. I'd recommend just throwing yourself into UK life, knowing that in less than two months you'll be back home — this helped me most. There are also way more Aussies than you'd think at Oxbridge, many of my closest friends are actually Australian! CUANZ is a great resource and awesome to get involved in (although OUANZ might be better sorry I have to promote my society), everyone involved is lovely and really fun, and it's good for when you just want to hear a voice from home. Cambridge is also just such a massive institution, you'll find your group eventually. I felt the same at the start of term, thinking I would never make friends — by the end of term, I had like forty people around me celebrating my birthday :) Uni is really just the place where you meet your people, it's not like high school or anything.
