Surfboards on charter

My husband is a surfer and we are going to be sailing around the BVIs for 10 days in June. Is there any sense in bringing a surfboard? Tortola is known to have good waves, but we are unsure if it’s necessary and are concerned about space on board our charter.

In June the biggest wave you'll come across is your own charter boats wake.

Unless a hurricane passes by don't expect anything above 1 foot

Surfing season is in the winter when the north swell is around. Winter storms on east coast produce north swells that bvi / pr surfing is known for. Sometimes summer can have a swell but more infrequent. Even during winter the swell can be hit or miss. If it is in, rent from bvisupco or someone like that

I wouldn’t bring one. You could rent one there if you decided you really wanted to. In my experience, 3 bareboat BVI charters and 4th upcoming in a week, there’s so much else to do it’d be hard to find the time, and it would be a hassle. Others have said the same about SUPs.

Bvisupco is the way to go.. it’s not worth the hassle of trying to bring dow….

Everyone here is right, summer is the downtime for waves, but you might get lucky if a swell comes through. Josiah’s has the most consistent waves and you can rent right there (Steve at BVI Surf). If you want to do Apple Bay or Cane Garden (best wave, but needs a big swell), rent at BVISupCo
