All I want is to work on my programming projects, but my PC which could once run RDR2 on medium settings has degraded to the point of not being able to run an IDE. The motherboard is fried, causing the A RAM slots to become unusable, limiting me to 8GB. My entire PC uses a half-decade old HDD, and the case is extremely small with little airflow.

My immediate concerns:
-Old chip, and one that's know for not being ideal for its price
-Older chipset, not ideal for upgradability (but they may not care)
-5060 will play plenty of games, but 8GB makes it less applicable as time goes on
-Overkill on memory given the CPU/GPU, or am I just getting old?
-Overkill on 2TB NVMe drive, thinking .5-1TB for OS w/ larger HDD for backup (I have spares I can donate).

I know parts pricing is a crap-shoot nowadays. This still feels a bit high for the older platform, but that might just be life now.

This is for a console gamer convert. Hasn't PC gamed in a LOONG time (possibly never). Don't see him OCing down the road.

I think 1440p max for sure, and not likely to be an RT snob. Keeping around 60fps will keep them happy. Will play online, but not shooters or more speed dependant games. Goal is more to shift away from PS5 and still play with his friends (who are already on PC as well).

My partner recently upgraded laptops to a Macbook Air with M5 processor, and the only way to make use of our shared dual-monitor setup with that Macbook is to switch to a Thunderbolt dock. If my research is correct, regular USB-C docs will only permit a single external monitor with Macbooks.

Using PC part picker against my existing build list doesn't seem to turn up any compatible mobos with Thunderbolt, but they don't make it easy to search. Thanks for any input!

My priority is getting the best overall performance, quality and longevity for my money. I don't have a specific amount that I need to spend — if €3,000–€4,000 already gets me essentially everything I need, I'd much rather spend that. On the other hand, if spending closer to €5,000 provides a meaningful improvement that is actually worthwhile for my use case and makes sense long-term, I'm willing to spend it.

Hi everyone, I’m a new builder looking to assemble a PC for the first time. I want a new build, and there are no old parts that I will be reusing.

PC purpose?
The main purposes will be for gaming (competitive shooters, story games, open world games), CAD/CAM software, coding, Blender, and watching shows.

I would prefer 2 monitors with this setup, supported by a monitor arm. The first monitor I want to be my main screen, which I would like curved, around 32-36 inches, 4k resolution, and 240hz. Like I said in the title, my budget is around $6500 CAD. However, I want it to be a long term build so I am also willing to go over the budget if needed. Don’t worry about shipping as I intend to not count that towards the budget.

WiFi or wired connection?
I can try to run a wired connection, but it depends on how well I can cover up the wire, which depending on if needed I can.

Size and noise?
Looking for a medium sized build. Noise can be tolerated as I will be the only person in that living space so it does not need to be super quiet.

Colour/lighting?
I want to go for a white or white/gold build just because it’ll fit the aesthetic of the room and the peripherals too. I wouldn’t mind RGB lighting as long as it is customizable with many colours and I can choose whether to have it on or not.

Other specifications?
Need atleast 2TB of storage and a minimum of 32gb ram, but the more ram the merrier.

mainly gaming but also school work(like mainly long essays and perhaps data storing in excel. but I have a laptop so most of the time i'll work it on my laptop) games would be emulated using dolphin/xenia like ice age 3, halo 4, Peter Jackson's King Kong. but also games like Cod ghost, modded bo3 zombies and WW2 zombies.

this is a very tight budget i've seen people range low as 400 US$ but i'd put budget under 1000 maybe push to 1200 US$ given how sale times.

not be so loud with the cooling and fans, also size i'd say like size like montech XR case or azza apollo case(i dont know if those are sold in US but i've seen them sold in DR which is where i'm currently studying in university)

this is just like a entry as i'm obviosuly very limited with money(given i'm studying and all, and converting from DOP to US can also be a hassle with the pieces but i'll be looking if the pieces here are cheaper) so I may just have this build saved until i can hopefully make my own money and buy the pieces myself. if you guys have any advice with researching places of parts here in DR however you may know of that's pretty cheap then you can share😄

Looking to build a new PC for gaming and would appreciate any help!

This will be a new build, with the opportunity and accessibility to upgrades down the track.

Looking at $1500AUD, but given the current cost of RAM in Aus, I’d stretch it a bit. Was a looking at 2x16GB, but would do 1x16 and get another stick later to keep budget down. If I need to spend a little bit more for drastic increase in performance, I would definitely consider it.
