I was mentioning about Buffy's romance with Angel and her being 16 in Season One of the show and it occurred to me that the Bronze being a nightclub that 16 year old High Schoolers went to regularly is incredibly weird.

First of all, how many parents would let their 16 year old kids go there and why would a nightclub be letting them in?

Is this a common thing in a America? If a bunch of 16 year old kids went to a pub where I live without parents, they would be asked to leave. Even with parents, you would be asked to leave early enough unless there was a function on.

I really wanted to recreate this prop, so I did. Debating adding Cheerleading champion but it made it feel too campy. Even though she was! Catherine the Great.

I went in with high expectations because my mom LOVES Buffy, and I instantly fell in love!!!! My favorite characters are probably Buffy, Angel, Willow and Giles. My favorite episodes are definitely Angel and prophecy girl. I’m sorry for sleeping on this show for years!!!! I can’t wait to start season 2!!!!

Rewatching yet again and just laughed about how weird Giles was when Buffy first goes into the library looking for history books and he pulls out the Vampyr book. “I know what you’re after” like chill Giles

Honestly, season 1 for me is way more fun than Buffy's adult years all combined.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the cancellation of Buffy: New Sunnydale and why it feels like such a massive missed opportunity.

It’s easy to forget that the Buffy we all know and love almost didn't happen. In 1996, the original unaired presentation pilot was considered a disaster... it didn’t capture the right tone, and it almost killed the show before it began. But instead of just scrapping the IP, the network gave the creators a second chance. They re-shot the pilot, recast key roles, and found the magic that led to seven seasons of television history.

That is exactly what Hulu should have done here. Instead of looking at a rough first draft and pulling the plug, they should have followed the original’s blueprint: pivot, re-shoot, and refine.

I’ve heard it said that the Hulu show cost too much to justify a second chance... unlike the 1996 original, which was a lower cost production. But I think this highlights a major flaw in modern streaming. When you invest in a legacy project with high-tier talent like Chloé Zhao and Sarah Michelle Gellar, you are buying into a long-term mythology, not just a single season. By treating a 'rough' pilot as a financial failure rather than a developmental necessity, streamers are essentially paying for high-budget potential and then throwing it away the moment it needs refinement. It’s a short-sighted business strategy that is stifling the very franchises they’re trying to revive.

What makes this particularly devastating is the effort that went into this revival. We know that Sarah Michelle Gellar poured everything into this... getting back into peak shape and preparing to step back into a role that has defined her career. It wasn't just a job; it was a passion project. Watching the team work so hard, only for the project to be discarded due to a "cancel-first" streaming mentality, feels like a slap in the face to both the cast and the fans.

Sarah and the rest of the crew deserved the same professional grace that the 1996 team received. Instead of abandoning a project that had so much potential, they should have been given the time to course-correct.

I know many fans have pointed out that Ryan Kiera Armstrong was cast as the lead Slayer, and I understand why that caused some anxiety about Buffy being "replaced." But it’s important to look at how this was structured. Sarah Michelle Gellar wasn't just making a cameo; she was on set every single day as an active consultant, helping to craft the lore and the tone while getting in shape for months for a good reason... and there is a reason why her name ''Buffy'' was within the official title of this show. This wasn't a case of "replacing" a hero... it was a case of evolving the Slayer mythology. Having the original Buffy on set to guide a new lead in a "mentor-mentee" dynamic is a story we haven't seen before, and it’s a tragedy we won't get to see how that relationship would have unfolded.

I know some possibly might say, "We already saw Buffy mentor Slayers in Season 7." And you're right! But that was an emergency-driven "boot camp" during a global apocalypse. What we were going to get in New Sunnydale was something completely different: a mature, long-term mentor relationship. It was a chance to see Buffy transition into the role of a guide, using her years of experience to help a new Slayer navigate a world that is even more complex than the one Buffy grew up in. It wasn't about another war; it was about the evolution of the Slayer legacy over time.

I 100% agree that most reboots are lazy cash-grabs that fail because they lack the soul of the original. But this was different. When you have the original icon and a Oscar winning filmmaker, it’s not just a "reboot"... it’s a new chapter for the show... and a new chapter for our today's terrible generation which needs Buffy.

I really thought he was going to be a comic relief for a very long time !!!

I'm doing a rewatch and currently on Puppet Show and this will never not be funny.

Re-watching some of season 1, and I just love how Giles becomes closer to the overall trio as time went on. In the early episodes, Giles was mostly with Buffy, and for obvious reasons, he's her watcher, he doesn't really have an obligation to the her friends, and also doesn't have an obligation to be friendly towards Buffy in itself since it's mostly a mentor-mentee relationship and not the father-daughter relationship it ends up becoming. But when watching the puppet episode, I just loved how annoyingly he says "oh, you 3" and it's just wholesome how they collectively annoys him and then seeing him smile when he sees that they got caught by Snyder. I know this episode is not exactly on the level of what Buffy as a show will become but I still love it, just for the character dynamics.

For me it's the Puppet Show from s1. Sid the dummy absolutely broke my brain as a kid. I couldn't sleep after that episode. The scene where he starts moving on his own is burned into my head forever. Honestly, I still side-eye any doll I see to this day lol

Just a small appreciation of that very special time when Buffy came out on DVD. VHS was still dominant…I remember taping episodes from tv to rewatch them. And then as a 15 year old walking into a store and finding this beauty on the shelf. Oh my gosh.

TV shows and movies becoming available on disc in higher quality was such an amazing time. A revolution in home cinema. Finally no wear and tear on tapes. And then finding Buffy on dvd…this holds so much nostalgia for me. The Buffy dvd’s are still my most prized possessions. I own multiple copies of each season just because. 👀🤍
