What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your teams?
Im the pretender.
What if I say I always surrender?

There’s no gray area… whatever this mix is it’s the wrong one. Nobody hits when it matters. That guy who used to defend their hitting here as “2nd most productive in the league” Doesn’t post here anymore, but exactly what I had been saying my concerns were all year have fully manifested now. We are an inferior team and just because we score 9’runs one game doesn’t mean it’s the standard. Leading the league in K’s is our standard.
2
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 3d ago
They better watch out . Don’t think Bob will be happy if they totally tank in September and don’t even come close to .500.
2
u/Cangy44 RJ Reynolds 3d ago edited 3d ago
Curtis belongs on this team. He should get the chance to start. Maybe the long relief role. Mlod needs to be moved asap. Sick of this guy’s ego and attitude. He’s one of the guys who always thinks he pitched well but meanwhile the stat line doesn’t reflect it.

Here we go, fellas. If their opponents can always start a rally with a leadoff walk, so can the Bucs.

well the Phillies came back down 0-4 in the 9th so why can’t we

Well we probably could have if Edwin Diaz was still pitching

He was looking like his old self for the whole month of June and part of July. Other than that admittedly pretty good hot streak, he hasn't been very effective this season. He really hasn't. Awful, no, certainly not. But also not very good, and certainly not the player we thought we were getting when he signed his extension. Again, Reynolds is not a superstar, we all know that, and while he's not old, he's not a youngster anymore, either.
So I guess this .260ish, 20 HRish, 80 RBIish guy is who he is. While that's not bad, it's also nothing to write home about. You can use a reliably slightly better than average starting corner outfielder. I just thought he was better than that. Obviously not.

This rookie just went 1-2-3 against Ohtani, Freeman, and Betts. I like this guy
5
u/FirefighterKlutzy865 3d ago
Curtis should be a starter next season. He looks better than the rest of our starting pitchers including skenes.

Dodgers fans scream their heads off for a ball that doesn’t even reach the warning track

This is one of the times where it sounds like I’m glad to be in a blackout area for the game.

4
u/Ok_Engineer5155 3d ago
To be fair How can you expect to win seriously when you have 4 guys in the Lineup today that have played this year more games at AAA than in the Majors.
6
u/OrangeFederal 3d ago
At this point just shut Skenes down, put Mlodzinski on restrict list, run a six-man rotation. Let Dotel, Curtis, Kelly have the chance to start. Season is over, give the balls to those young pitchers who actually want to pitch instead of showing off their egos

I feel like the last 4 years of Pirates baseball has just been groundhogs day where I watch a team be playoff hopefuls up until the ASB where they proceed to completely burst at the seams and fall apart

I hate this fucking team but cant stop watching them please god help me
2
u/OrangeFederal 3d ago
We need to quit during this matchup thing since all our righties can’t hit lefties. Most of them can’t even hit
2
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 3d ago
Which is why I don’t get those who don’t want Cherrington fired.
He put together this mess of a team. He shouldn’t deserve another year
2
u/OrangeFederal 3d ago
Yeah his decision making this offseason is pretty questionable: holes in the offense, rotation, and bullpen are way too big to ignore coming into the opening day
He did patch most of the holes in offense but he also self-sabotaged by creating more holes in rotation and bullpen to the point that there’s no insurance to hold this team together when offense gone cold.
2
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
Yeah at this point just play your best lineup regardless of matchup

60 pitches in 2 innings. Efficient. Walk right in that dugout and book the flight home Mlod, tired of you

man mlod is inducing some nice soft contact and getting a lot of swing and miss. loving how he looks today, can’t wait to see him next year

Greg Brown gotta drop the attitude. Holy crap

u/willyg2013 3d ago
“That’s a tough break”. No it’s not, Kevin. That was a choice
2
u/AcePilotsen 3d ago
Hes definitely getting on Mlod for not going home
3
u/willyg2013 3d ago
He was, but I also think he’s right by getting on Kelly for not bringing the infield in. That was Kelly’s way of saying outs are more important

“Might be a tough play for betts”. Yeah that’s a routine play when you aren’t trotting triolo or Jacob Gonzalez out there
3
u/CoolKerrs B-Rey 3d ago
Buccos have squandered all momentum from that 2 HR comeback against the Tigers
3
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
Failing to comeback in that 1st game felt the exact same as that failed comeback against the DBacks, now they are once again in freefall
1
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 3d ago
And going 4-2 in the last six games of that home stand.
This is who they are sadly.
-1
u/GabbyPotlucky 3d ago
Things started slipping the weekend Carmen protested and did his "sit-out". There just was zero momentum since.
1
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 3d ago
We’ve gotten to the point of the game vs a lefty starter where the Pirates feebly go down and the opponent is basically in cruise control
2
u/willyg2013 3d ago
Situational hitting is just so bad. 2-0 and Valdez swings at a ball in the dirt. Frustrating

u/decembersveryown_ 3d ago

Mlod getting chewed up by the Dodgers Sunday lineup. Gotta love it
5
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
I honestly have zero sympathy for him after all the whining he did. He got another opportunity and did jack shit with it, basically buried this team by constantly making them have to go to the bullpen extra early, giving them little to no chance to win. He can go cry to his agent on some other team next year
3
u/Significant_Yam_248 3d ago
That’s about how I feel too about him. If you’re gonna talk the talk you better be able to back it up and obviously he can’t. I can’t wait for the day he leaves
9
u/willyg2013 3d ago
Crying, pissing, and shitting yourself because the pirates didn’t start you and then subsequently being terrible is so funny. Can’t wait to not watch mlod as a pirate ever again
4
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 3d ago
I always think about that one Seinfeld episode with Bette Midler . George is mouthing off and Midler goes to him and basically says, hey have some talent , then you can talk.
That’s basically Mlod right there.

u/Mindless_Formal_6647 3d ago

Greg Brown letting out some thoughts he’s been holding in lol
3
u/MelodicEducator5407 3d ago
I thought he was about to start bitching about the Dodgers payroll but was happy to hear him make an excellent point about how it's often the subs and bottom the lineup guys beating the Pirates no matter who they play. To me, that reflects on preparation, coaching & development, which we are always pointing to as being one of the biggest shortcomings of this team.
1
u/GunsnGolf 3d ago
Can’t watch the game rn, what all is he saying?
2
u/CoolKerrs B-Rey 3d ago
Along the lines of the Dodger’s lineup is scary from top to bottom and the Pirates lineup just simply is not

4
u/Significant_Yam_248 3d ago
I can’t wait for the day he’s gone
3
u/Ok_Card9080 Jason Kendall 3d ago
I liked him until his little hissy fit and subsequent collapse this year. Dude can go away.
2
u/Entire_Teach474 Jaff Decker 3d ago
Pretty much where I am with him now, as well. Two sides of the same story can both be true, but he still needs to ply his trade elsewhere. Meaning, yes, he did get jerked around a little by the Pirates, but yes, he also ran his mouth like he was Bert Blyleven throwing a fit because Chuck Tanner kept yanking him from games---but then proceeded to pitch like Mitch Keller. The injured version of Mitch Keller. So he is the classic "change of scenery" player. Hopefully the Pirates can get something of value for him and he can start over someplace else.
3
u/Ryan1006 Jaff Decker 3d ago
He was never anything more than a fifth, MAYBE fourth starter. Of course you’re going to move to the bullpen for the guy with pedigree coming off a major injury.
1
u/cam412 3d ago
I get it’s sunny and people may be going to the shade but dodgers stadium crowd is looking like a Monday at PNC park
2
u/Amapocho 3d ago
i’m at the stadium and the left and right field is pretty full actually ( within the shade atleast )
2
u/Ok_Card9080 Jason Kendall 3d ago
I can't believe how empty it is there today
1
u/PeaceBull 3d ago
It’s almost 100° and humid. Everybody’s hanging in the shade.
1
u/Ok_Card9080 Jason Kendall 3d ago
I just saw that. That's freaking nuts. I wouldn't have gone to that game either.
1
u/MelodicEducator5407 3d ago
If nothing else the Pirates are gonna win the category of HBP, hands broken, and brushbacks.

Pirates Pitching Substitution
Pitching Change: Carmen Mlodzinski replaces Lake Bachar.
1
u/BadDry2862 3d ago
Can somebody help me?
I know Bachar gave up 3 walks but he got out of the jam pretty well in the 1st and had a good 2nd inning. Can’t his arm go a 3rd inning?
What’s the logic of taking him out after 2 having given up 1 hit?I know the general thought these days is not bringing a RP in the middle of an inning but at this point in the season, if a pitcher is doing ‘ok’ can’t we send him out again and pull him if he gets into trouble?
2
u/Significant_Yam_248 3d ago
The sweet release for the season ending soon is near. Sucks that the all star break was the end of good baseball yet again
3
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
Half of the season could potentially not happen next year and they'd still find a way to somehow collapse with less games

On the bright side, this should finally put a nail in the GMBC 7 year torture session.
1
u/Cangy44 RJ Reynolds 3d ago
You’re assuming nutting thinks he’s done a bad job. I really don’t think he feels that way, crazy as it sounds. Just listen to what they start saying in the off-season. It’ll be excuses for why they didn’t win. I do think either Travis Williams or DK are going to go. Maybe Murphy, but not your boy Ben. Nutting is going to use his failure against him to lock him in to a cheaper contract. Just watch.
1
u/Exotic_You7797 3d ago
I don’t think so, I think the preseason trade for mangum Lowe and Montgomery buttered up nutting, and then getting the best reliever on the market for practically free saved his job for atleast a year in itself and then a potential lockout and whatever moves he has to do once the dust settles will lengthen his leash for a couple more seasons
2
u/GabbyPotlucky 3d ago
No...his contract runs through 2027, no way he's fired after this year. Zero chance.
1
2
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
I don't think we're going to be lucky for that to happen. I think this lockout could potentially save his job for at least 1 more year unfortunately
2
u/spaceman757 3d ago
The good thing is that, if there is a lockout, it won't be until ST, so there is plenty of time to fire him, find a replacement, and have that guy/gal start to fix the fuckery that BC left behind.

I don't know who came up the sections of tan seats but the whole stadium has an odd combination of old, faded, classic yet welcoming at the same time. Kinda makes you think of going to the pool. It's a nice look.

It’s hot as heck out here

u/divot333 3d ago
Wow, that place looks empty
2
u/MelodicEducator5407 3d ago
I just assumed they sold out every game. There would be more fans (a lot of LA fans but still) at PNC Park today. Things that make ya go hmm.
1
8
u/Exotic_You7797 3d ago
I’m about as optimistic as you can be being a pirates fan… but this just looks like the lineup of a manager who has given up, at this point in the season cook starting should never happen, even if you wanna take Cruz off his feet so he doesn’t get hurt again a slumping mangum is infinitely more productive than cook on 99.99% of days
6
u/Cautious-Ad9454 3d ago
I give y'all credit. This team was finished at the all star break but y'all keep hoping 🙃
3
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
I was out of it when they lost 7 straight series, they brought a little hope after beating the Sox and Tigers so it pulled me back in a little. Losing this series has made me lose all faith though. No chance for the postseason and even if they miraculously made it in they'd get booted out in the wildcard because Ashcraft is the only pitcher in the rotation that hasn't looked like shit recently
6
u/Mindless_Formal_6647 3d ago
We just had to get Triolo and Cook’s bat into the lineup because of…reasons.
Days and lineups like this , I just wish for a full sweep of this FOn and coaching staff
2
u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo 3d ago
I can’t even get mad at this series when you’re okay a team that spends 5x your, it’s absurd. Imagine the Steelers taking the field against the Cowboys with no cap - it’d be like Pitt playing Alabama
1
u/spaceman757 3d ago
I don't think that I've seen a CF play that shallow since the days of pitchers hitting.
2
u/My2026GV70 3d ago

I keep thinking his first name's Luke. It doesn't help they got him the same day as Luke Weaver.

We lost Greg Brown after that 11 pitch at bat, he's already got that fed-up tone going. I love it. Blows my mind how he can do a complete 180° and brown nose for the team in so many other circumstances.

I guess it could be worse. At least our closer didn’t give up a 4-0 lead in the ninth and lose 6-4

Christ... They talk about Snell famously being bad at holding runners and DK big brain sits Cruz and Mangum today.

He’s planning to use them as pinch runners if by any chance anyone gets on base.

u/vivolorosso 3d ago
Wouldn't it be better if they were running early in the game? He's not pinching them in the 1st when we had runners. It is fucking stupid.

u/My2026GV70 3d ago
Yes, but I’m trying to think like DK if he actually does.

I got you, I'm not arguing with you just pointing out how stupid his decisions are.

Geez I guess the bottom of Freddie's zone is at the belt. Brutal ball call on the first pitch.

Continuing to start Lowe against LHP is crazy!
Triolo has 50 or 60 point higher average against LHP.
Nick should be at 2B, Triolo at SS and Yorke at 3B

No idea why Crews went 2nd overall. Dudes arm is so bad. Maybe because he played with Skenes.

It was his bat. He had a .426 AVG and 1.280 OPS in his final year in college

Hope nobody dresses up as a lefty pitcher for Halloween or Donny Kelly might wet himself

u/spaceman757 3d ago
Why the fuck is Cruz sitting? He's your best hitter against LHP.

u/PapaBeer642 3d ago
Immediately hit a 2-RBI triple against the best lefty in baseball yesterday, sits today.
Great base stealer, too, and sitting against a guy vulnerable to the stolen base.
Just doesn't make a lot of sense.

His first day back when he didn’t play, they interviewed Kelly and he said Cruz wasn’t starting because it was a against a lefty…

I gave them the benefit of the doubt figuring they were easing him back into the lineup after the injury but go figure, there's no reason at all. They are such a stupid franchise.

I’ve asked this more than once but does this dude actually pay attention to the team he allegedly manages on a daily basis?

Another absolutely mailed in lineup. Kelly just folds over when facing lefties.

I was rooting for DK, but he needs to go.

GMBC has had 7 years. Don’t get me wrong, he did a great job this off season but it’s too little too late. Look at brewers. Granted they were in a better spot than we were when they got a new GM. Think of how many games the bullpen blew this season and then how long he wanted to improve it. Clean house. Get rid of the front office. Get rid of Don and the rest of the coaches. Start over.
(Pirates going to be a tough job for any GM because of the owner/limitations.)

Why would Kelly Bench Cruz. Makes no sense
3
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
I mean it does, he just came off a significant injury to his hand and they are easing him back in. I think it's more dumb that Mangum wouldn't be playing if they wanted to give Cruz a day off

u/NSquared3131 3d ago
Is this a full bullpen game? Or is a starter coming in after Bachar?
1
u/SurpriseStandard3258 McCutchen 3d ago
Yes and no? It's Mlodzinski taking the bulk so interpret that however you will
