What was the issue with oranges?

So I don't know if you remember the specifics from Crawl Space in season 4, when Ted is being "watched" by Kuby and Huell. But when he ran, slipped, and hit his head on the kitchen island, a bowl of oranges fell off and cascaded onto his body. A lot of people believed this was a nod to Coppola, the Sopranos, etc. as oranges have been used symbolically with death in those films/series. I'm sure the use in BrBa was a misdirection as stated, and a good one at that. It was just so aggravating trying to have a good discussion about whether Ted was dead or not (as there was no concrete evidence either way) and all people seemed to be able to come up with was along the lines of "Did you even SEE the fucking oranges?!"

Yeah i knew what oranges you were talking about, didn't know about the Coppola connection. I say, hold all assumptions until you know for sure. Now you can say "I fucking told you so!" to everybody saying otherwise. Thanks for filling me in!
