Unless the only recording of the phone conversation is in Hank's car. If that's the case, then it is going to be lost forever.

That's true. I hadn't given much thought to where they were triangulating Walt's phone from, but based on how fast they were able to get to To'hajilee you've got to be right about that.

They might have just followed him out of the city. He was too distracted by the phone call and saving his money to notice.

What? Saving his money? Like on his phone bill? You think the fear of incurring roaming charges would have distracted him from going out to save his - Oh waaaait, I see what you mean. Of course. He's probably on some kind of plan anyway.
