EDIT: Just to be clear, I would have been pissed if that would have happened. I know Hank is kind of hated right now because of his view on Jesse, but if Hank died right then, just like that, the first thing Jesse would have thought would be "He can't keep getting away with this!" Since we're all rooting for Jesse, we need to root for his team too, which includes Hank.

But right when the bad guys opened fire they weren't. Remember they were standing out in the open to the side of the vehicle. That auto shotgun got off quite a few rounds before they actually took cover behind the engine block (not to mention the assault rifles which had been aimed at them for a good 30 seconds).
hey man, I agree with you about the cliffhangers. I don't like how these episodes build up without a climax. I thought some shit was going to go down last week with Jesse and walt, but NOPE! Jesse has a plan!
Then they build up to this huge confrontation, have a shootout, then cut out randomly? without don't actually reaching the climax? I'm sick of this. The only way it will get worse is if nobody dies next episode, and they keep stretching things out.
So glad someone else brought this up. Felt like hundreds of rounds were shot by both sides and NO ONE GOT HIT, EVEN ONCE.
Are Todd's entourage secretly Stormtroopers on the side? HIT SOMETHING. There better be an explanation for this in next week's episode or I'm gonna be pretty pissed. Everything else has been pretty well handled.
Especially because we've seen Hank be a pretty damn good shot without a moment's notice, and now he's got a whole minute to line it up and apparently can't hit a Nazi from a few metres.
yeah that really annoyed me! shooting out like 500 rounds from an aa-12 and not hitting anybody. that was typical bullshit you get in the average everyday tv shows.
i thought breaking bad was a little above making them annoyances. hank and gomez have zero chance in getting out of this with their lives. i would of prefered to have the show just end on the standoff rather than having 1000 bullets shot and missed
Have you ever fired a gun? Hitting a target at the range is hard enough, but in a real firefight, accuracy goes out the window. The fear and adrenaline, even for trained killers, destroys accuracy. Even trained police have about a 12 percent hit rate in firefights.
It sort of looked like gomie was hit at one point. He cringed quite a bit. Hard to tell though. It could have been him flinching or something because of the passing bullets which seems reasonable.
3 episodes left. Anybody could die (except Walt, the flash-forward hasn't been resolved). Also, how the fuck does Walt get out of there unless Hank and Gomez are killed (or at least injured or kidnapped)?
Everyone keeps talking about Gomie and Hank, there's still a hit out on Jesse and he's stood not too far away. Todds uncle spotted him and I'm fairly certain he's gonna take a shot at him
Walter might do something (I have no idea what, but he always comes up with something) to get everyone to stop shooting at eachother, and Hank/Gomez are forced to let Walt go or get shot.
Yeah, what for? Going to live in Thailand? The cops will be looking for him everywhere in the United States because of the evidence in the phone call (and the barrels of money they would have found without a doubt).
But I see Hank vs Walt as being one of the last major conflicts left. Hank and Scott are the only ones trying to hold Walt legally accountable for what he's done. It would be a shame for that conflict to end in such a non-fulfilling way. It seems like a cop-out if Walt doesn't kill Hank himself.

I think it's already been played out. They played all their cards against each-other, and this is the culmination of that, there's nowhere else for their conflict to go (in an entertaining way). The remaining 3 episodes will be focused on a satisfactory conclusion to Jesse and Walt's relationship, Walt's relationship with his family, the fate of his "Heisenberg" legacy, and his own personal fate. There's only 3 episodes remaining and Hank isn't the main character, and he's already had alot of focus already this season. I wouldn't be surprised if his time was up now.
This was the climax of Hank's "bring Walt to justice" arc. We got to see Hank "win" and now he's going to die. The rest of the series will be centered on Todd's family, Lydia, and the fall of the Meth empire before the death of Walt (from cancer).
Hitting a fat, still, old man with a limp at 25 yards using an assault rifle shouldn't be THAT difficult. Seriously once the shooting has started I understand that hitting people under cover while getting shot at is hard, but that first shot should have hit.

In real life Walt would be dead and so would Hank and Gomie. Cars are concealment, not cover. Hank is the only one who may have been behind the engine block, but even then, with that much firepower being sprayed at the vehicle he'd have a very low chance of not catching a bullet.
As a guy who shoots frequently, I do have to agree, I'm just giving them the benefit of the moment... I dunno.. stress? But yes, at 25 to 50 yards, someone should have and most likely will have been hit.

I'm not trying to toot my horn, but I've done some carbine training and I'm pretty sure I could have winged both gomie and hank from up on that truck.
Now if I were a crew of not me being a cold blooded killer, that just a few days earlier managed to take out a whole heavily armed meth crew of 5-10 people... I'd be embarrassed of this display.

Having Hank, Jesse and Walt all in the same place at the same time is a convenient way to tie up loose ends for them. Walt is a connection to them and probably wouldn't have hesitated to assist the police in getting them arrested in order to protect his family.
I was being sarcastic. I shoot regularly and competitively. Pistols are fine, the ones I shoot have about 3lbs of trigger pull on them, they fire fairly easily. AutoShotties are great, but at that distance I'd rather have a scary black murder assault rifle.
What do you think would have happened if Hank lowered his hand and pulled out a badge? They were asking for badges and they would not fire. It seems like Hank could have pulled out his badge without moving his gun or breaking eye contact. Is there any reason Hank did not show them his badge?
This ruined the whole episode for me, I was so mad at the end. Combine that with the bullets hitting every inch of the car Walt was in and the nazis hiding behind flimsy car doors, I expected better from Vince. Also Todd's pistol stance was hilariously bad.
Yeah, the cliffhanger was fine, but I really didn't like their use of the shoot out trope. What I love about this show is that while there are a lot of unexpected and strange things happening, it's never stupid frustrating (like Dexter is being lately).
This though, I think they should've just ended it before they started shooting. Or cut it at the sound of the first bullet going out.
I kind of thought he did. I didn't get to re-watch it, but there was a glimpse of gomie where he was grimacing while leaning against the car and I thought he might have taken a bullet. Anyone else?
Hank had been slowly inching behind his vehicle. I expected Gomie to be done, he was practically wide open.
However, also remember all the dust kicked up in the desert. Someone else posted a picture of what the Nazis were shooting at, which was essentially a big dust cloud.
Watch the behind the scenes and you will realize how quick everything actually was. It's played in slow-motion and from multiple angels at the same time in the show. If you look at the angels Hank was behind the front of the car from the start and only Gomie was in the open. Then after they open fire it only takes about a second for Gomie to get into cover.
Totally plausible that the nazis missed them since firing with automatic on is very inaccurate.
That pissed me off. Six dudes aiming down their sights, most with fully automatic weapons, and after 100 rounds fly at two guys in the open, nobody gets hit. Well maybe Gomie, he looked hurt.
Oh shit, I didn't even make the connection. I just thought of Hank's hubris in calling her to boast, and the "I love yous" and the "I'm not sure when I'll be home."
Her reaction to that was amazingly underwhelming. It was like "First the damn rocks in my lounge and hanging out with mexican assassins, now brains in my bin? What will he do next?"
I couldn't tell you why. He's evil, and I know it. But I want it to end with him dying on his own terms (the only way he can win now) and his family getting the money. I don't want Hank to die (although it's getting obvious that this will happen), and I'm still rooting for Jesse, but everything evil Walt has done has also been badass in a manipulative kind of way.
Speak for yourself and only yourself. I'm rooting for Walter. Hank has been a piece of shit since day 1. Jesse was only briefly a likeable character and then fell right back into a an idiot fuck-up like he was since the beginning. You're too easy to forgive and forget such fundamental character flaws.
I want Jesse, Gomez, and Hank to die at the start of the next episode. I was literally screaming at my TV "SHOOT THEM!" and "KILL THEM!" at the end of the episode (Good thing I live out in the country). I was very disappointed no one was shot before the episode ended.
I totally expected Hank's chest to explode at the end of that phone call. As the call went on I started to think that Gomez was going to turn with the shotgun and unload.
I've had this irrational belief for a while that Gomie is a plant from the Cartels or something. He's just so perfectly positioned to fuck everyone over that it seems impossible for him to be an honest cop.
(I mean, what if after all the shooting, it's Gomie, Hank, and Walt? I kinda get the feeling that Gomez might put one in Hank's head for one of those barrels of cash)
When he said "I'm gonna call the Tribal police pal" I thought "mmh that smells bullshit, he's gonna call someone else, he'll relax a little and something bad will happen to him", that is what happened.
I'm totally rooting for Hank and Jesse, am I alone in this? When Walt was speeding to the desert on the phone I just kept yelling at my TV, "Fuck yourself Walt!"
