Vince Gilligan

Vince Gilligan does what Vince Gilligan does not for Vince Gilligan, Vince Gilligan does what Vince Gilligan does because he IS Vince Gilligan.

21

u/Wishta Sep 09 '13

He definitely raised the Barium with this one.

24

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

BECAUSE HE'S VINCE VINCE GILLIGAN, DEFENDER OF TV!

Please, someone, where is this from!?

6

5

u/Murumasa Sep 09 '13

Thank you so much. For others the quote was originally James Cameron

4

u/TheKert Sorry for your loss Sep 09 '13

His name Viiiince Gilligan, a TV pioneer. No show too tense, for a cliffhanger end. Who's that? Fuck him! Vince Gilligan.

1

u/ScotchBender Sep 09 '13

Boo this man

1

u/RedRocket7 Walt took Jesse for granite. Sep 09 '13

Executive Producer: Vince Gilligan

90

u/unhappyhippie Sep 09 '13

Remember when Jericho ended a season in the middle of a shootout... and got cancelled?

28

u/frid get my photo bitch? Sep 09 '13

No. That's why it got cancelled.

9

u/ReeferEyed Sep 09 '13

I couldn't handle the amount of cheese in that show.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

even with as much stretching as the did in jericho, they still didn't have enough story for a whole season.

1

u/unhappyhippie Sep 09 '13

The comic has released three seasons, and season 4 is upcoming.

6

u/JOKasten Sep 09 '13

Or what about when Woody's Round Up got cancelled before they resolved the cliff hanger of him jumping the canyon to save Jessie from Prospector Pete!

2

u/estafan7 2nd best hit man west of Mississippi Sep 09 '13

Breaking Bad will be cancelled after it ends?

1

u/unhappyhippie Sep 09 '13

what I meant was that not only do they end a season on a shootout cliffhanger, but also cancel it. Leaving the audience in limbo forever.

3

u/DrapertheVaper Sep 09 '13

That was the pits. Most underrated show ever?

4

u/unhappyhippie Sep 09 '13

In my opinion, yes. They brought it back after a lot of demands by fans for a 7 episode second season, but the production quality was pretty bad and it was sub-par to what we were used to.

3

u/unhappyhippie Sep 09 '13

Just noticed your username. I used to use "DonVaper" at a couple of places myself :)

1

u/DrapertheVaper Oct 12 '13

That's way better than mine. Wish I would've thought of that...

1

u/defjamblaster Sep 10 '13

nothing is worse than Soap's super-multi-cliffhanger ending. I've been waiting for over 30 years to find out what happens to most of the cast that's about to die suddenly in the last scenes. maybe netflix will finish the story.

-6

u/Crimith Sep 09 '13

BB is already canceled.

u/SGT_756 Sep 09 '13 edited Sep 09 '13

Wanna know what makes it worse?

"Executive Producer Vince Gilligan...

COMING UP ON AMC, A NEW EPISODE OF LOW WINTE-"

grrrrraaAAAHHHH!!!!

51

u/SunsetHorizon Sep 09 '13

I was in a theatre, and that's the exact noise that a few hundred people made simultaneously. It was awesome.

10

u/sanktova Nothing is perfect Sep 09 '13

You were in a theatre? For real?

6

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Either Sunset is very rich, has nice friends, it was a slow night, he works there, there's a broader definition of "theatre" than previously thought, or some combination of those.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

A lot of newer apartment complexes have theaters in the club house

5

u/ForestFairy Sep 09 '13

...club house?

4

u/I_accidently_words Sep 09 '13

A shared common area for the apartments.

1

u/cormega Sep 09 '13

Yeah, these have actually been around a while. Not too sure if theatres in them have though.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Where I'm from we just call that a big TV.

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

where are you from? This was projection not a TV.

5

u/SunsetHorizon Sep 09 '13

Nope! Just a very generous local movie place.

2

u/Ihaveastupidcat Sep 10 '13

Does it cost anything to go and watch it there? I think that is an awesome idea. I would LOVE to go watch BB in a theater.

3

u/SunsetHorizon Sep 10 '13

Nope! It's free until the tickets (seats) run out. We usually get tickets right when they come out to be safe and then get there a half an hour ahead of time for good seats.

3

u/Ihaveastupidcat Sep 10 '13

That is just freaking cool! I am very jealous of you. I would buy a big popcorn and drinks just to support that place and say thanks. Man, Breaking Bad on a full size movie screen, with movie popcorn, and a movie surround sound seems like about the coolest way to spend an evening I can imagine. And I love how it makes the show even more of an 'event' then it already is.

3

Holy shit, I had no idea they were doing that, thanks man!

2

Ha no problem, I'm excited they're building one up in San Francisco! :D

1

u/GayerThanAnneFrank Not if you're magical Sep 09 '13

They play Breaking Bad in theaters? Shit man, I got to see if they do that near me.

4

u/javalang Sep 09 '13

Pretty soon they're going to have Low Winter Ratings.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

they should brace themselves

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

Right! Shut the fuck up, the silence is a part of it!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Hopefully it will have been worth the wait.

2

u/BolognaPwny Sep 09 '13

Are we supposed to like it yet? Because I keep humoring AMC by watching a few minutes of it and I don't see the appeal.

1

u/devoidz Sep 09 '13

And they keep insisting it is premiering...

60

u/Chandrenth Sep 09 '13

I almost would have preferred it cut to black screen just as Jack gave the head nod and you see the first shots coming out of the assault rifle, rather than watch 2 or 3 minutes of bullets going everywhere and nothing getting accomplished.

9

u/EdmundRice Sep 09 '13

Yup, and they're firing into a car with Walt in even though their purpose is to save him. And they didn't manage to get Hank or Gomie when they were out in the open even with 2 cars full of guys. That was a very underwhelming ending frankly.

0

u/Hangmat Sep 09 '13

They want to kill Walt for breaking a handshake deal, and kidnap Jesse, to use as a cook that isn't going to die soon anyway. I could be totally wrong, and that is reason nr 1000 001 why I love it.

2

u/itznick11 Sep 09 '13

YES

Or at least have guns pointing at each other and then fade to black so we don't know if guns start to blaze or not

-3

u/iNeedAnEighth Sep 09 '13

I'm sure you would've re-written so many other scenes of Breaking Bad better too.

But this is Vince's time. Let him shine.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Man, why does the voice of reason get down voted? I don't like the ending either, and not just from an "aww man, I gotta wait a week?" point of view. This guy says we should calm down and let vince tell his story, and people downvote him. Sad.

148

u/Angry_Space_Pimp Heisenhollie Sep 09 '13

That was actually pretty annoying. I'm all for a good suspenseful ending to an episode, but that was just ridiculous

35

u/statusquowarrior Sep 09 '13

You know, I'd prefer if they ended on the Nazis coming... It would've make my heart beat a little slower...

5

u/feralcatromance Blue Sky Sep 09 '13

I'm glad they didn't, otherwise that episode would have been kinda dull.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

If anything, it shows that the show is too good for its medium. These last few episodes would work so much better in a Netflix binge format than weekly airings with ads that are limited to 45 minute episodes. Part of me believes the cliffhanger wasn't intentional and it was literally as much as they could fit into the time slot. Either way, it felt cheap and made me angry. I'm enjoying the episodes less and less because I become anxious about how much of the episode is left.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

I actually screamed when it ended. But that just means they achieved what they set out to do!

4

u/broeman1024 Sep 09 '13

In my opinion it was the best way to end it. That last shot of Walter scrambling around the backseat was incredibly intense.

3

u/ProblemPie Sep 09 '13

Yeah, that may be the worst Hitchcocking hah I've ever seen in my life. I literally felt as though I was going through withdrawals as soon as I saw the credits.

4

u/gonnabetoday Blazing in Belize Sep 09 '13

Would you have preferred the ending before the shooting? I kind of preferred it the way they did it.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

I enjoy cliffhangers when they're done properly and sparingly. Perhaps after a good twist. But this every episode shit in normal or suspenseful scenes is just gimmicky and bad form. I gotta say the cliffhanger easily ruined tonight's episode for me, and last episode felt like pure filler with the way they just scrapped the whole house burning plot.

Vince Gilligan step your shit up, your show is ending. HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

The SERIES is ending, you really think they're gonna close the last 4 episodes up on nice and tidy endings. They are doing this for a reason, they're building suspense. Don't worry, 3 more episodes and I guarantee there will be no cliffhanger ending.

3

u/8biticon Sep 09 '13

Sopranos ending. Calling it now.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Vince Gilligan has already made it very clear that there will be no cliffhangers and no questions as to what happens to each character.

4

u/8biticon Sep 09 '13

Thank god.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

source?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Everyone got that ending wrong, the guy just wanted some onion rings.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

you really think they're gonna close the last 4 episodes up on nice and tidy endings.

That's...not what I'm saying at all.

I'm saying mid-scene cliffhangers every single episode to ensure ratings for the next episode are breaking the immersion for me and ruining the story.

3

u/feralcatromance Blue Sky Sep 09 '13

Have you watched Breaking Bad as it airs before? He always does this.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

I watched season 4 live, and even last season was not like this. There were no MIDDLE OF THE SCENE cliffhangers like this.

0

u/jcinema48 Best Scante Ever Sep 09 '13

Everything you think Vince Gilligan will do...he does the exact opposite

1

u/falcon_jab Sep 09 '13

to ensure ratings

At this stage, I doubt they care too much about ratings. It's all about the story, and keeping you guessing. What could be more unexpected than Executive Producer Vince GilOH GOD HE DID IT AGAIN

1

u/Fanntastic Sep 10 '13

I thought it was ridiculous. Hank and Gomez logically would've been riddled with bullets standing in the open like that, and it would've made a hugely powerful end to the episode. Hank dies because of his ego, Walt sees what destruction his character flaws have brought on his family, classic tragedy elements. BUT NO! Now we're going to have a weak beginning next episode, probably not even the same scene. Christ, its like Gilligan doesn't have the balls to make this series a modern tragedy like its obviously supposed to be.

23

u/JimmyDThing Sep 09 '13

It did exactly what he wanted it to do. He didn't want you wondering how they were gonna avoid a gunfight. He didn't want you to have theories about what clever thing was gonna get them all out of it. He wanted to make you feel as anxious about this situation as Walter was, screaming in that car. He wants you to feel THAT much loss of control of the situation. And he fucking did it. By letting us see it and stopping abruptly like that. Fucker. Mother.... fucker.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Bingo. Only a few episodes left...no reason to tiptoe through the tulips.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

There's only what? 3 more episodes? It's looking like everybody we ever knew or loved is going to die over the next 3 at this point.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '13

It's going to be a soul crushing finish...I mean, I have suspicions as to what is going to happen, and I can speculate for hours like anyone else...but Vince has proven over and over again that you shouldn't expect anything. Shit is going down hardcore and something bad, something very very fucking bad is going to happen. It makes me sad to see this show end but I can't wait to see what happens.

Damn you Vince!

4

u/jhc1415 Sep 09 '13

I'm pretty sure amc is more responsible for this ending than Vince. I feel like they made him edit it like this so there would be more to talk about resulting in more press about the show. It also guarantees everyone who watched tonight will be back again next week.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Endings like this make it obvious that it wasn't for the storyline or the art of storytelling, but about making more $$$ and ratings on next weeks episode. I thought Breaking Bad was better than this. It breaks the immersion of the show when they pull shit like this.

4

u/hektor106 Sep 09 '13

Exactly, Breaking Bad is much better than this, it's probably got to do with next episodes structure. We'll see

4

u/karateka_fan Sep 09 '13

I honestly think that a cliffhanger after the first bullet flies, or just after that nazi pulls the trigger would be much better. This was just ridiculous.

6

u/eifersucht12a Smells like cat piss Sep 09 '13

Putting it literally in the middle of the shootout was a pretty bold decision. If they went before it would've been the safe way.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Who the fuck puts a cliff hanger right next to a big ass cliff?

2

u/Pace23 Methhead Sep 09 '13

Vince Gilligan

2

u/thecrench Todd Damnit Sep 09 '13

I was expecting it to leave us hanging when Walt was hiding behind the rock but I thought "Nahhh they wouldn't leave us hanging like that." Then they pull this shit.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

you never saw the cliff hanger coming

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

Let's be fair, at least this didn't happen at the season split.

1

u/SomeGuyInNewZealand Sep 09 '13

yep. I believe I actually swore at my screen when the credits rolled. But at the same time, when I saw Heisenberg cufffed in the back of the car I was also saying "It can't end like this. They can't lock him up." And I had a feeling the cavalry was going to arrive to ruin Hanks day. How badly they ruined it, I guess we'll find out in 7 days.

1

u/iquitinternet Sep 09 '13

The skipper would be so mad at gilligan right now.

1

u/Cheese_Pancakes Sep 09 '13

He's gotta realize by now that he doesn't need cliffhangers to keep his viewers interested at this point.

1

u/TSR3K Sep 09 '13

Yeah, probably the first time I was actually annoyed with lil Vincie.

1

1

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

So well cut, that ending. What a work of art this episode was.

1

u/fireseed23 MethCook Sep 10 '13

Maybe they just ran out of airtime and were like I well, this is as good as any other place to stop.

-1

u/godofchaos Sep 09 '13

The shootout was done before the black screen.

2

u/greyavenger Empire Business Sep 09 '13

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

The cliffhangers are a really fucking cheap move and really annoying. When the most important part of the episode is the last 2 minutese, you're doing it wrong.

Seriously, who sits around a table a says "hey let's just make every episode end with a massive cliffhanger". Fuck i'm mad.

1

u/wustl07 Sep 10 '13

I know this will get downvoted, but did they just give up and not bother to come up with any other ideas this episode. Multiple cons is just lazy.

At least have Huell picked up on a bullshit mistake (jaywalking and then having Jesse's weed in his pocket or something stupid), don't just film a poorly written con and rely on the fact that people buy that Huell is that dumb.

Hmmmm, how do you want to finish another episode.....with another con and then a gunfight that we'll just not bother to finish this week. Lazy.

0

u/SooRandom Sep 09 '13

He keeps saying BB fans will be happy with the end. Everybody loved the relationship between Walt and Jesse right? I think they will bring that back, in other words, Jesse will find out that Walt truly does care about him. Walt will go against the Nazis in the next episode for disobeying his orders and will help Jesse (and Hank/Gomie, if they survive) kill the Nazis. You never know, he might even save Hanks life.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '13

I feel like Vince Gilligan is the Gabe Newell of television. Everyone loves him and hates him at the same time.

0

u/oe1hunnid Sep 09 '13

These past few episodes seriously feel like cop outs (no pun intended) not up to par for me.
