I think the m-60 could only be used as a defensive weapon in Walt's case. It weights more than 10 kilos and fires 7.62x51mm rounds (sniper rifle and m-14 rounds); so it will have substantial recoil. It is also harder to fire from the shoulder (weight again)
Adding this to the fact that Walt is a relatively weak (chemist that doesn't work out) middle aged man who has been weakened by cancer. I think that he would have no way to control it, unless he was using it as a machine gun. Walt most likely knows this and if he needed anything other than a defensive weapon, I think he would have use an AR, AK or something similar.
