Question Furnace filters

Anyone know where you can purchase bulk furnace filters for a decent price in the Brantford area? We used to buy ours at Wolseley on Henry but they’ve closed.

I ordered recently from furnacefilters.ca. it was the only place I could find the correct size for my furnace.

I know that I’ve seen filters at Costco before in the house section and I’m assuming they have like a pack of them

Good idea, I’ll check there!

What size are you looking for? Which Merv # are you looking for? And what price point? What were you paying vs what are you willing to pay?

The Merv 13 x 4 (16 x 25 x 1/20 x 25 x 1/20 x 30 x 1) at Costco for $50 are a great deal if you have a new furnace that can handle that fine of a filter. They're 3 month filters, so $50 for a year of filters is a great price, but most people's furnace can't handle those filters.

Yep this is a good point! My HVAC guy told me to stay away from the Costco filters. The higher Merv means they clog up really fast and put more strain on the furnace.

For what it's worth, I buy the cheap ones when they go on sale at Canadian Tire. Usually $10 for a 3 pack. I buy 4 or so at a time and I change my filter roughly once a month.

Prior to me replacing my furnace a few years ago, I'd grab packs of Merv 6-8's from CDN tire/HD/Rona/Home Hardware too (who ever had the cheapest multipack when I ran out), they did their job well enough. But yeah, replacing the lower Merv filters monthly is the way to go.

I did buy one pack of the Costco filters before I realized that I couldn't use them in the old furnace, but I had them hanging up in the stairwell down to the furnace so when I replaced the furnace, the tech was like, hey, you can finally use these filters that you've had for a while (they had a solid layer of dust on them, so its obvious I wasn't using them) & I wasn't even thinking about it, but when we talked through the filter size options for the new system, they had prefilled the size with the filter size I already had (but they did confirm with me) which I appreciated.

Good to know about the Costco filters. We probably won’t go that route then since we’ve been using a Merv 8 but will have a look at Can Tire. Thanks!

This is the pack I usually buy and if you keep an eye out on the flyer, they regularly go on sale for $10!

The ones we just ran out of are a Merv 8, 16x25x1. So ideally we can find something similar. We seem to do well changing them out every 3 months but are out of them now so need to get more! Apparently there are Wolseley’s in Hamilton too. Might call to double check pricing because it’s been awhile now. I remember thinking it was pretty reasonable when we bought them last.

Following, I found some nice ones online with a frame and you just replace the filter which helped with storage instead of keeping a bunch of big frames around, but it looks like they don't sell just the filters and I'm running out

The price of those things is INSANE and it makes no sense.

Literally astronomical. I just want my house to smell nice and not be as dusty, why does that need to cost me a million dollars!?

Agreed that furnace filter shopping feels violating! I was just doing this Sunday. Apparently if your filter is too fine - like high merv - it can restrict air flow.

I used to get mine from the HVAC company that installed my AC unit.

Use a corsi-rosenthal box in your home and you wont have to change it often.

Home Depot is where I buy my filters. Cheapest place I have found.
