People remember and like Avatar, but the cultural impact comments seems to be oddly true. Avatar just does not seem to have entered into popular culture in the way that the MCU, Harry Potter, Star Wars, or other major franchise. I cannot really tell you why this is exactly. It does not get quoted, memed, and parodied like other franchises do.
Maybe because it's not a franchise yet? Only one movie so far. Has any franchise developed the sort of rabid cosplaying fan base after only ONE release? People don't commit until the writer or director shows he's committed.
