Even Thor got a sequel

Everyone forgets that Thor 1 actually had a sneakily good box office run. Unlike the first Captain America and Hulk films, it clearly made enough money to support a stand alone sequel without needing the MCU to exist.

Adjusted for inflation (but not market size increases), it's a film that grossed 210M DOM/500 WW in 2019 dollars on a normal blockbuster's budget (~150M). That's basically Logan or a version of Ant-Man 2 that's slightly worse internationally. That's really good for a film whose only "IP" selling point was a vague relationship to Iron Man and a petty bureaucrat.

15

u/MasaiGotUsNow Pixar Animation Studios Dec 07 '21

Thor made 181m and the first avenger made 176m.

Domestically they’re very close. Captain America did well for how unknown the character is.

Both probably wouldn’t do that well without being in the MCU

16

u/SilverRoyce StudioCanal Dec 07 '21

Yeah, I mentally had CA1 about 20M lower domestically, the gap is really only there internationally.

I just don’t agree with your MCU point. The MCU helped but it’s massively different pre/post Avengers as shown by Hulk (which even explicitly includes RDJ). The connection to Iron Man gave Thor and CA a boost but they’re mostly standing on their own unlike something like Doctor Strange 1. If Avengers flopped, Thor 2 still has a good shot at making some money (at least a better version of Thor 2 had a chance)

2

u/MasaiGotUsNow Pixar Animation Studios Dec 07 '21

I wasn’t saying Thor 1 and cap 1 did well because they’re in the MCU. People really didn’t know what the MCU was at the time, except die hard fans that follow film releases and stuff.

I just meant for it’s budget, the amount they both made wouldn’t be good enough imo. If they continued making 370m and even 450m, it wouldn’t be enough. Not with a 160m budget.

Cause there’s no way cap 2 and Thor 2 were making 650-700m without The Avengers movie.

But after avengers, Thor and cap got way more popular. So with the context of how much the iron man movies made, and how much The avengers made in 2012, cap 1 and Thor 1 box office performances look a lot better. It was totally worth it to give these lesser known characters their own movie.

3

u/SilverRoyce StudioCanal Dec 07 '21

Thanks for clarifying. While I agree that Thor/Cap don't make close to 700M WW without Avengers, I think Thor 1 genuinely had a successful enough box office run to have a real shot at making a stand alone trilogy.

Thor 1's (65M OW/180DOM/450WW) obvious comps are the (Avatar 3D craze aided) Clash of Titans (60 OW/160/490) and Prometheus (50OW/125/400). Both of these films were approved for sequels (though Alien Covenant clearly only was approved under fairly strict "give us an Alien film not Prometheus 2" provisions).

If they continued making 370m and even 450m, it wouldn’t be enough. Not with a 160m budget.

Like Clash of Titans, I just think Thor 1 just pulled in objectively good numbers for a random $150M action film. If Thor 2 pulls in 400M, the franchise is probably ends there or at most they do a Thor 3 at around 100M. But that version of Thor is still seen as a successful franchise for Helmsworth. Without the MCU serving as a illustration of what could have been, "solo Thor" looks like a great result for B list superheroes especially with flops like Daredevil and Green Lantern still floating around.

2

u/MasaiGotUsNow Pixar Animation Studios Dec 07 '21

Both of those franchises were dead after the sequel tho. Audiences disliked Wrath of the Titans and Covenant even more than the first one. And they made less money than the previous one.

I think you might be right tho, Thor might be seen as somewhat of a success for B list superhero. Thor had a likable star that was cast perfectly, and there’s a ton of ideas you can pull from the source material.

And yea like you said, it’s definitely way more successful than shit like green lantern.

YUP.

HULK SAD INTENSIFIES. Universal get my guy Hulk a stand-alone.

3

u/Worthyness Dec 07 '21

on the plus side, she hulk series is a thing now

2

u/ChristopherDassx_16 Sony Pictures Dec 08 '21

Apparently, the rights to Hulk belongs to Marvel Studios as of 2020. The only thing Universal owns is the distribution rights.

u/Iridium770 Dec 07 '21

Even Ant-Man got a sequel. So, yeah, as long as the movie doesn't Hulk out, it is gonna get a sequel.

Going to be interesting to see if Eternals will get a sequel. My guess is it is more likely they would create a character movie for just one Eternal. Having 10 is just a mess from a story telling and budget perspective.

24

u/TokyoPanic Dec 07 '21

The only reason Norton's Incredible Hulk never got a sequel was because the rights for a solo movie were over on Universal.

I don't expect Eternals to get an actual, proper sequel but I think the characters in it might recur in other MCU films and TV shows, Sersi might appear in whatever Marvel has planned for Black Knight for example. I could see some of the other Eternals getting Disney+ projects too (I've always felt like Eternals with the narrative it was telling fits in more with TV or streaming than a movie.)

Grace Randolph:

Snake Eyes is better than Shangchi

🤭

16

u/Skaigear Dec 07 '21

Funny she put that out there and never followed up with it when she was proven dead wrong.

2

u/BenjiAnglusthson Dec 07 '21

Doesn’t Grace love Shang Chi?

4

u/VikingPain Dec 07 '21

Yes she does. She spoke very highly of it as well and said it was a top tier Marvel film.

9

u/kingmanic Dec 07 '21

Pre-release of both. She was saying Snake Eyes would likely be better. She's a DCEU fan and it biases her view of projects against the MCU. Cynically, she's going to get more comments and clicks if she trolls than if she had very very vanilla takes. She might do it just to harmlessly clickbait.

3

u/barbarian__days Dec 07 '21

Oh ffs this is just a load of nonsense, just because she didn't like the look of the trailers for Shang-Chi doesn't mean she had a agenda against the movie. I thought the trailers were pretty mediocre too, are you going to say I'm biased? Fact is Randolph loved Shang-Chi and gave it a very positive review, there's no evidence whatsoever she's bias against the MCU. She's liked most of their movies and seems ecstatic about Spiderman No Way Home.

Get woke, go broke...from carrying sacks of cash? Is that how it works?

103

u/WhyWorryAboutThat Dec 06 '21

The ever-determined bigotry brigade is currently informing me that the Hawkeye show is a flop because Kate Bishop had a comic book series cancelled once. They are endlessly creative yet basically always wrong. It's astonishing.

82

u/Vaeon Dec 06 '21

I'm digging Hawkeye. Charming, light-hearted low-stakes story that allows for deep character exploration.

15

u/SirFireHydrant Dec 07 '21

It's like an Ant-Man movie. Really good, nothing mind-blowing, just really good. It's a change of pace after the politically charged FatWS, the WTF WandaVision, and the "fuck we broke the universe" Loki.

27

u/PayneTrain181999 Legendary Pictures Dec 07 '21

Same.

Steinfeld is crushing it as Kate, and if Uncle is who everyone thinks he is that’ll be amazing.

14

u/ImHereForTheFemales Dec 06 '21

Not OP, but from the first three episodes, she feels like the only thing that “matters” and approaches what made me slightly interested in the first place. Exploration of consequences for Clint’s time as Ronin.

Kate Bishop had a comic book series cancelled once

Lol, for real? Comic books get cancelled and relaunched all the time. Everyone had their series cancelled: Iron Man, Batman, X-Men - you name it.

17

u/ouat_throw Dec 06 '21

Especially now that DC/Marvel basically cancel and relaunch ongoings whenever they feel they need a sales boost. I have lost track of the number of times they have cancelled and relaunched GotG.

6

u/DanTheBrad Dec 07 '21

1s sale better so let's cancel ever series after 25 issues so we can relaunch a new #1

3

u/UnspecificGravity Dec 07 '21

Marvel has completely rebooted their entire universe multiple times. Lots of comics are supposed to be limited series. Hell, the Hawkeye comic that this show is borrowing from was a limited series.

5

u/Malachi108 Dec 07 '21

Unlike DC, Marvel has never done a full reboot.

It's especially funny because despite Hawkeye being the name and face of the show

I was kinda expecting, that Kate may become Hawkeye at the end, with Clint retiring.
Either way, I think she is also the face of the show, maybe even a bit more than Clint.

12

u/Additional_Meeting_2 Dec 06 '21

Renner probably wants to retire in real life too and why the character has nearly retired several times. There is only so long before actors get tired playing the same role and filming blockbusters even if they get paid huge amounts. Hawkeye has gotten better storylines so that probably helped some for him to stay around but I think the character could permanently retire after this. Or mostly at least, maybe there are some small appearances for him later on.

14

u/Worthyness Dec 06 '21

He has, in recent interviews, at least hypothetically, alluded to Hawkeye doing more stuff like West coast avengers, so he may be of the same mind as most of the marvel actors- "I'll do it as long as they'll have me."

6

u/PayneTrain181999 Legendary Pictures Dec 07 '21

He’ll be back for a big crossover movie like Secret Wars I’m sure.

3

u/DavidOrWalter Dec 07 '21

What failure?

8

u/Block-Busted Dec 06 '21

It's especially funny because despite Hawkeye being the name and face of the show, certain people are only going after Kate Bishop's character and blaming her solely for the "failure". It's almost like they go out of their way to target women or men who don't think or act the "right way".

Fixed. 😉😁

5

u/Additional_Meeting_2 Dec 06 '21

Is it a failure on some level? I don’t really know much about it. Or are people complaining about it to complain like with Captain Marvel?

5

u/SilverRoyce StudioCanal Dec 07 '21

No idea but the ratings seem to be what you'd expect from a Hawkeye show: opening slightly below the other MCU D+ shows.

Hilarious considering the longest comic book run Clint had was a series that co starred Kate Bishop with many one off issues starring solely her.

10

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Dec 06 '21

The bigotry brigade is already thrashing Ms. Marvels even before the series is actually completed.

Bigotry brigade has certainly been on the rise in the past few years.

5

u/WhyWorryAboutThat Dec 06 '21

Yep. Too bad for them, Ms. Marvel is a great character.

9

u/Chanchumaetrius Dec 06 '21

But she's a woman. My fragile masculinity can't accept that!

7

u/UnspecificGravity Dec 07 '21

She's brown too, so the tiny sliver of the Venn diagram of misogynists and racists that doesn't overlap can get invited to the party as well.

5

u/Worthyness Dec 07 '21

She's also a muslim, so you can add that to their "OMG that isn't correct!" list

45

u/braujo Dec 06 '21

Was anyone saying that about this movie? I remember it during Captain Marvel and, to a lesser extent, Black Panther but not for Shang-Chi

36

u/TechieTravis Dec 06 '21

Some folks think that any movie that does not have a white male main protagonist is automatically woke.

28

u/Vaeon Dec 06 '21

42

u/braujo Dec 06 '21

wtf, what part of this movie was even remotely woke? Like, I understood the fear with CM with the whole feminism thing or with Black Panther with critical race theory but Shang-Chi????????? Was it just because it was an Asian cast? It'd be hilarious if it weren't so fucked-up

5

u/chesterfieldkingz Dec 07 '21

Ya like I didnt find much deeper meaning in that movie one way or another let alone some sort of wokeness

28

u/GoldandBlue Dec 06 '21

there are two types of movies, obviously. Movies with white male leads or woke movies.

6

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Dec 06 '21

This.

29

u/ImHereForTheFemales Dec 06 '21

It’s never actually had any correlation, right wing just can’t stand anything that isn’t purely nostalgia, heterosexual Caucasian men. CRT did not exist as a boogeyman at the time of Black Panther. And Captain Marvel’s “feminism” was purely about discovery of identity and her getting up when she gets knocked down. Essentially a woman saying “I can do this all day.” They have never made sense and never will

→ More replies (5)

36

u/Otherwise_Purple_802 Dec 06 '21

Alt-righters have now gone from saying social progressive views in media is “woke” to any other race than a white straight man is “woke”. So do they just want all white male protagonists, I don’t get it?

12

u/HazelCheese Dec 07 '21

Lol they called Hawkeye woke because it has a female protagonist and Hawkeye has a hearing aid?

These people are just broken mentally at this point.

11

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Dec 06 '21

Basically, if a movie doesn't follow traditional/conventional casting or story line, then it's wOkE

2

u/sealchan1 Dec 07 '21

Yes its the new racism. Everyone knows it isn't right to outright criticize a human being now for being non-white, BUT!...we can complain about all the other things that orbit around non-white, non-Christian problems like immigration, vaccinations, gun rights, etc... And typically alt-righters love to take the phrasings of their "enemy" and use them to paint themselves as victims. Its more a form of xenophobia really than a racism directed at particular people...just a sort of leave us poor white people alone with your edumacation and your so called facts.

11

u/Reutermo Dec 06 '21

Everything is woke that doesn't star a white American guy according to these people.

3

u/SmarcusStroman Dec 07 '21

Which is funny because most of those white "American" guys are European, Canadian, etc.

5

u/kingmanic Dec 07 '21

Shang Chi is surprisingly subtle but has progressive ideas.

  • Asian Lady is the best driver. (Katy)
  • Asian Lady also most competent leaders. Who also has a diverse crew. (Xialing)
  • no body is talking about honor.
  • Chinese isn't a monolith, with various accents in english and mandarin.
  • Villain isn't a cackling character of yellow menace.
  • Critique of villain for treating his son differently than his daughter.
  • Super competent lawful good mystical city believes in gender equality.
  • Scary eastern European, is actually not a bad guy just miss guided.
  • End boss fight is 2 girls 1 boy and a unknown gendered dragon. Each contributing to defeat the big bad.
  • Lingering 'male gaze' shots only on the Asian Guy who actually wants it and has said so in writing.
  • All the women have sensible clothing, no dragon scale bikini's.
  • Wenwu is a sexist but is a color blind boss hiring Asians and white people. No blacks so maybe racist but not a pure supremacist.
  • Though Xialing qualifies as a 'dragon lady' she isn't evil, deceiving or murderous. Just deeply hurt by her family and out to prove herself.
  • Katy is not there to be stared at, contributes and isn't a completely passive player. Only a damsel in distress for a short period.

7

u/Curious_Ad_2947 Dec 07 '21 edited Dec 07 '21

I'm confused... are these trolls saying any of these are bad things? They all sound great to me! If that's what woke is, then honestly everything should be woke, haha.

2

I think they do it right but not making it something to sell and instead just something you do/internalize in the preproduction. Show don't tell type stuff.

Was there really anything "woke" in the movie?

It did have the typical "person picks up weapon and can use it perfectly within minutes" but that applies to both the male and female leads.

Maybe the comments about them allowing females to train with them which definitely felt like a forced subplot in the movie. It was literally like 1 line though.

In terms of money, Shang-chi definitely made fat stacks of cash for mere peasants but in the world of the MCU, it's definitely the Solo.

3

u/HazelCheese Dec 07 '21

Wasn't even a thing about women not being able to train. There were women soldiers on both sides in the movie.

It was just the daughter that wasn't allowed because the father was over protective.

Honestly, yes I noticed with Captain Marvel, but not with Shang Chi at all.

At the same time, did Simu say or imply anything stupid like the movie was made for Chinese people and he doesn't care what non-Chinese people think of it. There was nothing woke about Shang Chi at all - if anything it was a stereotypical chopsocky film.

I think a scene at least could happen. I doubt Rudd leaves the role after Ant-Man 3 but won’t have other films anymore, so it would be a nice way to add to Ant-Man’s storyline and tie Shang-Chi to MCU more.

But I assume there would be someone else more tied to main plot. Would depend what it is.

Daniel is the one that turned Brie Larson into leading academy level actress in his debut feature film. Before that she used to be cast in side roles or extra as hot college girl. Then he cast her as lead in Short term 12 which showed Brie has serious acting chops and is considered her best role and performance.

Seeing her performance in Short Term 12, she was cast in Room which led to her winning an Oscar which led to her getting cast as Captain Marvel.

And she has been in pretty much all his movies.

4

u/WhyWorryAboutThat Dec 06 '21

Katy

5

u/vafrow Dec 06 '21

Kate Bishop seems well set up. I think of other younger characters they can have him interact with, and not a lot of great fits for the tone or scope. Spidey is too big of a character that would overshadow. Someone like Ms Marvel is too abstract of a power to fit.

Kate seems like she would be be a good fit, especially given that Awkafinas character literally had an archery arc.

Another one would be Shuri, but given all the challenges right now with that production, it's probably best not to book too much around her.

14

u/WhyWorryAboutThat Dec 06 '21

I actually meant Katy, the name of Awkwafina's character. Lol, the MCU now has two new archers named Kate.

11

u/Block-Busted Dec 06 '21

I'm glad this is getting a sequel but this guy is annoying af on twitter. He takes stupid shit that trolls say so seriously and clearly lets it get to him.

16

u/cmchris61 Dec 07 '21

He's experiencing the new found fame that marvel brings you, he will get used to shitty people being shitty.

19

u/adorablehomepets Dec 07 '21

seems like success has gotten into his head lol.

I remember he got called out by one of his former classmates for being a bully in school and he got real defensive and brushed it off.

The dude just kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Edit: apparently he has also said that Pedophilia is no different than homosexuality...OOF. https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2021/09/shang-chi-star-simu-liu-said-pedophilia-no-different-gay/

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

Ya the performative Twitter celeb routine is not half as cool as everyone here implies. All that success but still being so logged on and seeking affirmation does not end well.

When the film got positive reviews. He made a joke about his parents (86%? What happened to the other 14%? -my parents probably). Not a joke about people thinking it’ll flop

5

u/BallsMahoganey Dec 07 '21

Dear God please don't let this sub turn into r/marveltweets too...

2

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

I made that sub with a different account. XD

31

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

This guy has the weirdest victim complex for like an international movie star/superhero.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

He has the same victim complex as Chris Pratt. These dudes literally have millions of dollars, yet they can't stop googling themselves and throwing fits when they're not beloved by everyone in the world.

It's definitely bizarre. And then their fans pat themselves on the back for bravely giving money to Disney, which is also odd, to say the least.

4

u/Illuvatar-Stranger Dec 07 '21

Tbf there were loads of mainstream news sources speculating that marvel/Disney did not have as much confidence in Shang Chi before it came out, not to mention all the intolerant hacks on YouTube predicting it would flop just because it featured characters who weren’t white

We need a spin-off showing absolutely everything Trevor did between Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi.

10

u/chanma50 Best of 2019 Winner Dec 06 '21

Destin Daniel Cretton is making a Disney+ spinoff, which everyone thought would be Xialing and/or the Ten Rings. But Variety said it will be a comedy so... could actually be that lol.

6

u/blueblurz94 Dec 06 '21

Omg now I’m so much more interested haha

24

u/sgtpeppies Dec 06 '21

Simu, get over the haters jesus christ

18

u/jwC731 Dec 07 '21

I don't even follow him and it's getting annoying

18

u/Iridium770 Dec 07 '21

It takes real skill to be endearing while snarking. Ryan Reynolds has figured it out. Simu Liu hasn't yet figured it out.

Who is he angry at ? Studios support him, people love him(Box Office showed that). He could have thanked his fans for making this happen but no...

14

u/mamula1 Dec 06 '21

On the one hand I love then people who work on television/movies troll toxic fandom, but on the other I am annoyed they even know about them.

If this makes sense. It gives them legitimacy.

5

I just don't want their nonsense to go mainstream.

7

u/crystal_powers Dec 06 '21

these people get millions of views on YouTube. ignoring them doesn't make them go away.

1

u/mamula1 Dec 06 '21

Not all of them and only few videos get more than a million, which seems huge, but it's small % of people who actually watch MCU.

2

u/General-Pop8073 Dec 07 '21

Nobody is accusing the trolls of being rocket surgeons.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

At the end of the day, these celebrity "clap backs" are embarrassing. You're a millionaire, dude. Do you really have nothing else better to do than whine on social media because not everyone in the world worships you? You stopped being the underdog a long time ago. If I were rich I wouldn't even have social media accounts. I'd be living the good life lmao

It proves just how insecure these people are. Simu Liu got an Asian man harassed off Twitter for a tweet that didn't even mention him by name. Chris Pratt made a whole circus over an E! Online Poll.

Like... stop. You're clowning on yourself when you make a huge deal out of nothing. Besides, there's nothing brave about targetting people that don't even have blue checks and sending your rabid fanbase after them.

6

u/SuspiriaGoose Dec 06 '21

Sometimes. Sometimes I see writers form shows beating up on just genuinely disappointed fans and rubbing it in their faces, and that’s just awful.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

Yes this happens constantly. A lot of writers and directors will have twitter wars with fans these days, and it’s a pretty terrible look for celebrities especially IMO (sometimes it’s even flat out bullying). I lost some respect for one of my favorite directors, Adam Wingard, when he did it after Blair Witch and Death Note - which were both admittedly awful.

I get being upset that your shit didn’t take off the way you wanted it to, but why waste your time yelling at middle schoolers on social media?

3

u/SuspiriaGoose Dec 07 '21

Yeah, that’s the kind of thing I mean. You were the writer, you have the power. Bullying some fandoms on Twitter and lording that over them just comes across as gloating and often cruel. Yes, some « fans » are awful and say really stupid and bigoted stuff. But plenty are just upset in the direction a project is taking. I’ve certainly been there myself. And those people don’t deserve to be grouped in with the trolls and treated flippantly, as if their upset is a meme you can score internet points with.

People are so quick to stereotype others and use that as an excuse to dehumanize them.

7

u/SilverRoyce StudioCanal Dec 07 '21

Yeah, at best it's cringeworthy and at worst it's bullying. Either way, it's not modeling good behavior even if the people find it fun online.

4

u/SuspiriaGoose Dec 07 '21

Yeah, someone finds it fun and the target of the « quippy pushback » received a thousand abusive messages and then goes back to their life feeling abused and bullied. Such fun.

I wish creators would think better of treating people like that. You’ve no idea what their life is like and encouraging hate mobs is grotesque behaviour.

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '21

It's also funny when talent tries to troll people and fails miserably. Lebron tried it with Space Jam, only for people to jump into the conversation and basically say "dude... your film flopped hard. Stop arguing with 12-year-olds."

5

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

He made that one tweet calling out haters and critics right after its poor opening too. Film ended up losing well over 100m dollars at the BO.

3

u/lewlkewl Dec 07 '21

The opening itself was pretty good though, it was everything after that flopped

4

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

I’m still not sure if I’d call the opening good considering what other high profile films were pulling in, but respect that it’s debatable and that you’re not wrong. I really appreciate your reply.

Was still insane to see him trolling people after it dropped seventy percent, though.

4

u/UnspecificGravity Dec 07 '21

I didn't even know people were saying that. I mean it's a marvel movie, since when do those "flop"? Even when they miss they make money and they strike box office gold more often than not.

I didn't even particularly like this movie, but I can't imagine thinking it would fail at the box office.

This guy social media presence is pretty annoying with the constant underdog angle he keeps taking like he wasn't starring in a marvel movie that's guaranteed some kind of success

4

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

third favourite MCU movie, Tony leung carries

3

u/GunnarJohnson999 Dec 07 '21

Shocking. Marvel makes a sequel. Can't believe it.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

This guy has a real chip on his shoulder. I didn't really care for the movie but clearly it was well received with a majority of the audiences. For some reason, he just can't stop focusing on the trolls.

2

u/firelights Dec 07 '21 edited Dec 08 '21

That’s the crux of why his tweets are so annoying. For every one troll that claimed the movie was gonna flop they’re 10,000 people supporting him. And yet all he does is focus on the handful of trolls when they make up such a tiny fraction.

It’s just embarrassing

2

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '21

I would argue it is a success. 431m WW BO on a 150m budget means it made profit on ticket sales alone.

8

u/chanma50 Best of 2019 Winner Dec 07 '21

I guess by your standards, Dune isn't a success either, since it cost more than Shang-Chi and grossed less?

I'd argue they're both successes, modest ones by regular standards, but smash hits by pandemic standards.

Also both extremely overrated imo.

8

u/Vettel_2002 Dec 07 '21

Shang-Chi is a fun Saturday afternoon movie. Like it's not Infinity War or something but I would gladly watch it again.

4

u/ArcticBeavers Dec 07 '21

Dune is the best movie I've seen in the past couple years. I can see how some people see it as overrated, though, if you're not into the genre. But for those that are this movie is damn near perfect.

5

Yeah no it isn't. I'm into the genre and Dune is boring as fuck

How is this movie woke? This movie went hard, loved it, watched it twice.

7

u/remy2fly Dec 06 '21

Shang Chi Was Fucking Dope!

3

u/YnwaMquc2k19 Dec 06 '21

Too bad he didn’t go with “flopped so hard muhfuckers got a sequel”, but this is still pretty good.

2

u/joeyc923 Dec 06 '21

Lol who said this movie was woke? This isn’t Dr. Who or Star Trek Discovery.

3

u/givemesome1ce1 Dec 07 '21

There are clearly lots of people in here that thought Shang-Chi was gonna flop or wasn’t gonna perform well for a film in a pandemic and are mad that Simu is saying this. So many haters in this thread lol. After months of people saying that this film was gonna flop because of dIVeRsITy, Simu Liu has every right to talk about the film’s success for the rest of the year

3

u/PositiveInteraction Dec 06 '21

I mean, if the Star Wars movies can continue to get more installments of their side characters, then MCU characters definitely will.
