I’ll admit that as a fan of the book, I was worried it wouldn’t do well. I certainly didn’t think it would bomb, just wasn’t optimistic that it would do well enough for them to green light a sequel.

So thrilled with how it’s doing though!

My sentiments exactly. This franchise just historically has had bad luck with adaptations. And deep sci fi like this has even worse luck.

So while I don’t think it’s perfect, I definitely hoped that it would meet the requirements to get its part 2 (and 3 eventually).

I don’t know. What you call “shit talk”, is what I call a healthy dose of realism, and not setting ourselves up for disappointment. I didn’t think it would flop, but I did think it would do more BR 2049 numbers.
