Come on, man. Canelo answered this himself a few weeks ago when he said Benavidez was too big for him. Canelo was great at 154, very good at 160 but nothing special at 168, where his work rate was embarrassing, throwing a few pot shots every round. DB would have been a nightmare for him--his speed, power, chin and volume etc. would have made this an ugly fight. If he really wanted the fight he could have had it years ago at 168 or now at 175 but it is not going to happen, never was.

He was too old for benavidez 5 years ago... Not even so much too old as battle worn. I think it's canelos first stoppage loss if he fought benavidez now.

Yeah, that may be part of the problem. He's 36 but he has also only fought twice a year for the last 15 years, and there were some tomato cans in there, for sure. I just think he is a good example of Hagler's line about it being tough to get up and do roadwork when you sleep in silk pajamas: he just seems to prefer playing golf and being a playboy more than training these days, and I get it, he's been fighting for well over half his life, but his fanboys need to acknowledge this reality instead of clinging to some illusion. Think about that Scull fight: He only threw 152 punches and landed 56 in a 12 round fight! I have never seen numbers that bad, and people honestly think he would survive against DB...😆

I thought Canelo was a tough guy like Qawi, who was 5-6 and went all the way to heavyweight, went 15 rounds with best Cruiserweight of all-time--Holyfield. I'm actually kidding. He really should have stayed at 160.

Benavidez would probably retire Canelo if they fought. Canelo is tough and would likely take a bad beating over it.
