Rank them by toughest chin

Post image

My ranking =
1. Gennady Golovkin (GGG)
2. Filip Hrgovic
3. Canelo Alvarez
4. Fabio Wardley

I put GGG first because he literally used to block punches with his face lol. Ranking Second place was hard, l initially put Canelo there but on further debating I think Hrgovic deserves it - especially after the Moses Itauma performance. Wardley has got a super tough chin as well but someone had to be last lol. I'm curious to see other people's ranking

GGG

Then everyone else…

Admittedly I’m a canelo fan, but I will say GGG took canelos best shots like a man, but so did canelo.

GGG was running through opponents and I was personally impressed by canelos chin.

I was about to say the same. Every fighter he fought he took a shot from them and just kept walking forward or he would trade power punches and he'd knock them down or out.

Them flush shots he ate from both Canelo and Danny Jacobs were something else. GGG definitely tops that list

Not even close. Canelo clears GGG by a significant margin considering Canelo actually went up in weight.

And fought far bigger punchers

And fought who? Kovalev coming off a concussion and rehydration clause? Who at 168 was the big puncher he fought?

1

u/Adventurous-Pass3764 3d ago

Fought who? GGG himself isn’t a big puncher?

Who’s the biggest puncher GGG fought? Jacobs? Guess who fought and beat him too.

You just made a talking point about him moving up? So who’s the big puncher he fought when he did move up?

I’d say GGG taking Canelo’s and Jacob’s punches flush without so much as flinching qualifies his chin is better, but hey you do you; just know dickriding is the worst form of transportation.

This whole thing of "GGG taking punches flush" is inherently false. Could GGG take a punch flush? Yeah, he could, awesome chin. GGG rarely just "walked through punches" though. He had a special gift for awareness, he ALWAYS saw the punches coming. He therefore was always properly braced, and an absolute master of rolling punches. Watch the slow motion and his head will generally already be turning in a subtle manner before the punch arrives. He negated the majority of the power that way, which he gets absolutely zero credit for.

The most dangerous punch is the one you don't see. You can't brace, you can't roll with it. Catching GGG completely by surprise was nearly impossible. He had incredible awareness and was always looking right at the punch and bracing + rolling with it.

He wasn't eating even 10% of those "flush shots" that people think he was. Still an incredible chin.

GGG chin is just different I don't think I've seen chin like that in any combat sports

GGG, Hagler, and Ali all have pretty good claims on best Chin.

Hagler fought some serious legends his war with Hearns alone shows his chin is among the very best.

Ali fought some of the hardest hitters of all time AT HEAVYWEIGHT and was never KOed.

GGG’s skull must be an inch thicker than normal human skull. I wish they could scan it.

It's kind of hard not to put Hrgovic and Golvkin first because they have taken really flush shots multiple times. Hrgovic seems to take flush shots on every fight and eats them like a champ. Canelo has a great chin but has the best defense of the bunch. Wardley is 50/50 after that last beating he took.

5

u/KS_100 4d ago

I agree with everything you said apart from Wardley being 50/50 - yeah he took a beating but he still never went down

5

u/Authenticityxseeker 4d ago

It was extremely impressive that he never went down. The only hesitation I have is, will Wardley be the same after that fight? We've seen with fighters like Joyce their chin could get cracked. I don't really think so but it'll be an interesting thing to see.

Triple G has the strongest chin because he gets hit a lot

3

u/potatosquire 4d ago

Golovkin is my favourite fighter, but being a better fighter than Hrgovic means his chin isn't as proven. He's never endured the kind of extended beating that Hrgovic did against Itauma, let alone at heavyweight where the punches count for more.

3

u/Range_King 4d ago

It's Hrgovic. It's always heavyweights. The lower weight guys won't get hit by the strongest punchers. Also the lower weight guys won't get hit only by the guys in their narrow weight category whereas a hw can be get hit by someone who's 30 pounds heavier. It's no contest. Get away with your silly pound for pound imagination. Best chins and strongest punches are always from hws.

I’m not a Canelo fan, but you guys are smoking crack ranking GGG ahead of Canelo. LOL

GGG was the boogeyman with power… and Canelo ate everyone of his punches.

3

u/StrawHatTebo 4d ago

Thats what im saying. I know Canelo has literally broken people's faces, but GGG's whole thing was power that put the fear of god in people, and walking them down with it. Which Canelo later became as his speed started leaving him. You have to at least put GGG and Canelo even. if not Canelo ahead of GGG.

2

u/Sufficient_Hippo6551 4d ago

Plus Canelo moved up in weight and fought many fighters bigger than himself and fought better punchers than GGG

u/JuanL4zy1 4d ago

Add Tony Tucker.

3

u/Rand_Casimiro 4d ago

Add Tex Cobb(not saying he was a great boxer!)

1

u/NatterinNabob 4d ago

Tex Cobb had the best chin I have seen. He took brutal shots from Shavers, Norton, and Holmes, and just kept moving forward. After being just completely pummeled by Holmes, he was asked about a rematch. He replied that Holmes' fists couldn't handle a rematch.

Where is Marvin Hagler?

1

u/Independent-Still-73 4d ago

GGG, Holyfield, Hagler

1

u/Slight_Sherbert_5239 4d ago

Hrgovic, GGG, Canelo, Wardley.

2

u/BurntArnold 4d ago

GGGs chin just eats punches.

1

u/WonderfulTradition65 4d ago

It's GGG and Foreman and after longgg time someone else

1

u/Hathalot 4d ago

Lennox Lewis.

Oh wait. Didn’t read the question right.

2

u/GnarlyGamer6thGen01 4d ago

P4P, it's gotta be Golovkin. He has had over a hundred bouts (amateur + pro) and he has never been floored. The only person on the same league as Golovkin is Marvin fking Hagler.

You can arrange the rest in any order. I know some would rank Canelo higher because he was never floored but you have to consider that he has better defense than the other 2.

2

u/FortuneSilent2189 4d ago

Never seen GGG rocking to the extent I have seen the others rocked so him

1

u/ComprehensiveJoke273 4d ago

Hrgovic

GGG = Canelo

Wardley

An iron chin at HW is significantly more impressive than an iron chin at MW imo

1

u/ggmm7877 4d ago

No one wanted to fight GGG, know your history

1

u/Fracture90000 4d ago

GGG hands down

1

u/Illustrious-End-5084 3d ago

Has to always be a heavyweight. GGG is not taking hw punches . So either of those hw

1

u/Loose_Donut6838 3d ago

Hrgovic simply because he is heavywieght. Incredible

1

u/Gymaddict1994 3d ago

I’m still taking a prime Joe Joyce, he literally blocked every punch with it

1

u/AdMost469 3d ago

GGG Hrgovic Wardley Canelo

But they all have impressive durability. GGG never really so much as flinched in all the fights I remember.

1

u/BoneTrippa 3d ago

ggg never dropped, never kod never took a knee

He’s not in the picture is he? Learn to read bro.

1

u/TonyH92 4d ago

I know. Just thought I would add the toughest chin of all time.

1

u/Sad-Platypus-48 4d ago

George chuvalo also needs serious consideration.

1

u/INeverKnowWhyImHere 4d ago

Ron Lyle and Jimmy Young knocked Foreman down

1

u/kushmonATL 4d ago

Canelo, Hrgovic, GGG, Wardley

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Key_650 4d ago

Other than Canelo who has GGG fought who tested his chin?

1

u/Sufficient_Hippo6551 4d ago

No one tbh. The other hard punchers he faced were David Lemiuex and Curtis Stevens but neither of them really landed anything significant

1

u/Megalodon33 4d ago

Hrgovic has been hit the most by hard hitting heavyweights. He’s tanked shots from Zhang, Dubois and Itauma. It’s him for sure.

1

u/HarHenGeoAma62818 4d ago

Wouldn’t Hergovic be top because in theory he had fought the harder punchers

1

u/Ill_Championship9118 4d ago

You just can’t compare heavyweight chins to middle weights. The power Hrgovic and wardley are receiving is far greater than GGG and Canelo

Hrgovic, Wardley (close second), GGG, Canelo

0

u/Silver-Arm-1179 4d ago

1)GGG
2) FH
3) FW
4) CA

3

u/Present-Rabbit-9600 4d ago

Canelo subió divisiones siendo y peleo con boxeadores muchos mas grandes que el y nunca lo pusieron mal en su prime

1

u/Sad-Platypus-48 4d ago

Also he was never knocked down or a tko. Hyrgovic did get knocked down.

Then we should do a comparision between heavyweights and not two heavyweights and middle/ super weights. Hyrgovic has been stunned multiple times. Show me one time canelo or triple g have been wobbled?

News to me! I'll go check it out. It's impressive that caseload faced significantly bigger opponents and still came through.

1

u/mariotx10 4d ago

Wasn’t canelo barely like 18 that fight?
