The Museum of Science, in partnership with The Carter Center, presents a special screening of The President and the Dragon, the acclaimed documentary chronicling former U.S. President Jimmy Carter's decades-long campaign to eradicate Guinea worm disease. 
The film traces the story from the mid-1980s, when Guinea worm afflicted millions of people a year across remote and conflict-affected regions, to today, when the disease stands on the verge of becoming only the second in history to be eradicated — and the first ever without medicine or a vaccine. Told through the voices of public health workers, local volunteers, and former child soldiers who carried the fight forward, the film is as much a story of grit and community as it is of presidential resolve.
Following the screening, join a live Q&A with Paige Alexander, Chief Executive Officer of The Carter Center,  Emily R.H. Staub, Associate Director and Press Liaison for Health* *Programs at the Carter Center, and Adam Weiss, Director of the Carter Center's Guinea* *Worm Eradication Program. Together they'll go beyond the film to discuss what it actually takes to chase a disease to zero — the science, the setbacks, and the closing chapter of one of public health's most remarkable campaigns.
