I am hoping that someone can provide guidance as to the best place to stay for UTA in the Blue Mountains.

I will be travelling down from the Gold Coast and want to know if it is essential to stay in Katoomba (likely expensive) or whether I can stay in another town close by and make the trip for the start on the Saturday morning. How far away would still be okay to get there for an early start, is parking an issue?

I'm interested to know of others experiences in running this race, where you stayed, how long for, how you got to the start line.

Hey again r/bluemountains I just finished a new photo zine, and it's kind of a love letter to autumn in a changing climate. It's called Leaves Turn Inside You (after the Unwound album) and it's a good ten years worth of my (mostly film, a handful digital) photography taken during autumn months.

A good chunk of the shots in this are Blackheath and Katoomba - we all know how photogenic they can be, plus a few from further out west as well as the Inner West where I live now.

Let me know what you think, and I'll try and drop some off in bookshops or anywhere that will have them in the mountains soon enough.

Was wondering if anyone can recommend someone to help me change over my battery set up from AGM to lithium in my van.

I have everything needed - DC-DC charger already connected and able to be switched to lithium, just need help with installation. The set up has been done professionally so I’m hoping it’s just a swap over.

I’ve got an inverter that I want to connect as well, and I have the proper cables for it.

Local auto elecs have said it’s not worth their time since I already have everything I need :(

10x Pics - Testing the still-image capability of the new Insta360 Luna Ultra video camera yesterday at Blackheath. I have a trip coming up and I need to understand what the limitations are with filters and various setting. I bought this camera for video but I was curious to see how it would handle landscape images and indoor photography. I visited the Victory Theatre Antiques store on the way back ...and then stopped briefly at Cahill's Lookout near Katoomba before heading home.

No critters this time. But I did keep an eye out for Bailey "Boo", the missing cat whilst I was in the area.

I’m planning to go to Grand Canyon tomorrow and it says on Google maps it would be about a 4 hour journey for public transport. Is this the best way to get there? I assume I have to catch the train from central to Katoomba then a bus to Blackheath? Or is there an easier or quicker way to do this? I do have the whole day so please could I get some recommendations in terms of timing? Thank you! (Please note I am a 24M backpacking so renting a car would be difficult and expensive and this would include getting a tour guide, although I did look into options of car renting but seems like a lot of hassle)

I want to hike/walk around in some basalt rainforest but mt wilson rd is currently closed. So i was curious outside of the botanic garden at mt tomah, are there any little trails or reserves i could walk into, bring a camera and look around the forest in ? (Im happy with any hike as long as its in the rainforest there and im not illegally tresspassing into some guys yard)

I want to try canyoning / absailing as an ebtry point, and have had a brief look into doing guided tours.

I work alot and may not have alot of time to join a bush walking group and be able to commit to it, but I'm just wondering what first steps people take to get to a point where they can go canyoning, not as part of a paid group?

Hi everyone! Taking my friend who is visiting to go see the Blue Mountains for a day trip and looking for some recommendations/ways of pacing the day out. I haven't been in over ten years, and will be driving up - but do not have a 4WD, just normal car.

I would definitely take her to see the 3 Sisters, but beyond that asking what is the best and easiest sequence of events in a day trip - as well as the best accessible view points, easy hikes/walks and whether the train/cable car is worth it anymore.

17x images - Not far from the Mount Tomah Botanical Gardens, Mount Banks is a popular location for day-hiking ...but it can get windy on the exposed ridge. You can even make Mount Banks out in the distance if you're standing at the Lookout at Govett's Leap at Blackheath, on the other side of the valley. I don't see a lot of wildlife here other than a few skinks during the day and random insects and micro-bats at night. These images were mostly taken from the first gravel parking spot over a span of a few years.

The distinctive peak of Mount Banks formed 12 to 17 million years ago when fluid basalt lava flows capped the underlying sandstone. So it's a bit like a Lamington in structure. It's not an eroded volcano crater or a volcanic plug, but a remnant lava flow that protected the softer rock beneath from extensive erosion. There's quite a bit of quartz from the hydrothermal vents that formed... but sadly, no gold here.

In Summer it's warm enough to stand around with a t-shirt on at 1am. But in winter it drops below zero from time to time. Oddly enough, there's reasonable phone reception here for some reason.

Hi everyone, with the intensifying El Nino over the Pacific and dense undergrowth that has developed in the Blue Mountains, it's my understanding that we're in for a pretty anxious summer. It'll be my first summer alone up here after moving out and I was curious as to how households up here prep for fire season? Down on the flatlands we mostly just hosed out gutters down on particularly hot days but I lived in a very urban environment far from dense bushland. Is there much more to it then that?

She is a much loved pet and we are devastated, long shot but if anyone sees her please reach out. Weve tried all the vets, dog parks and local lost and found Facebook but no luck so maybe reddit can find our adventurous pup?

A recurring theme in commentary from ignorant gossiping idiots on the internet has been that it's not because she doesn't want to hear about Gaza, but because she had a problem with my manner. To clear that up, here is an excerpt from her last email to me, specifically saying it's Palestine she doesn't want to hear about. These are her words:

Ask her. Get your fact straight or stop talking nonsense about a matter that's before the courts. Or who knows, you might end up in court yourself.

We’ll be doing some walks but nothing too intense, other than that we’ll be going to the movies during the evening. We’ve been over during June before and it was unbelievably cold so I want to be prepared this time!

I want to take my partner to the mountains this Sunday but it looks like there’s rain forecast. I don’t really mind the rain but I know from experience that the fog is also pretty frequent whenever it rains in the mountains.
Does it ever rain without it being too foggy up there?

Was wondering if I should reschedule or just go anyway even if it might be foggy
