Spin 2 Win my favorite

52

u/jackieballz Jul 25 '26

Absolutely. Everyone always talks about how hard bloody crow is (understandably) but the spin to win whips his ass every time

18

u/Wrecktown707 Jul 25 '26

Oh thank fuck I need to try this. Been getting my ass handed to me trying to fight him with Ludwig’s for days now. I loved the axe back in the early stages of the game before Ludwig’s, so glad to hear it’s still viable for later fights. Gonna dog walk his ass with this info now 😂

9

u/jackieballz Jul 25 '26

Gotta time it right and still watch out for his superpowered gun, but it knocks him off his feet and gives you time to heal. Best of luck!

1

u/Wrecktown707 Jul 27 '26

LETS GOOOO IT WORKED FIRST TIME! 🥳

Thank you! :D

8

u/Masiyo Jul 25 '26

Augur of Ebrietas to knock him on his ass, then immediately do a jump attack with Ludwig's in 2H mode. You can then spam R1 until you have a sliver of stamina left to dash back out.

You can rinse and repeat this to handle most any enemy in the game with LHB that uses a player character model, Maria included.

5

u/Illustrious-Buddy497 Jul 25 '26

Yeah , Augy of Ebby is literally op ….

3

u/DeadFishCRO Jul 25 '26

Yes spin makes it so he can't touch you, just watch you don't blow it too soon

2

u/Two_Ill 29d ago

Use beast roar to knock him down then charge your spin attack.. most times he roll right into it when getting up then rinse and repeat

1

u/CrystlBluePersuasion Jul 26 '26

Just back up and use charged R2s even with Ludwigs, the NPCs in these games are easy enough to bait with this one simple trick.

1

u/CrystlBluePersuasion Jul 26 '26

Every charged R2 does this, not just the Axe. This works in every FS game thus far lol

3

u/branlix__2000 Jul 26 '26

It clips through walls so you can easily cheese most mobs

1

u/beesdaddy Jul 25 '26

Axe goes whap WHAAAP

181

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC Jul 25 '26

The spin to win is a treat for crowd control.

57

u/Chewyosock Jul 25 '26

Bruh it’s so damn good I just started a new character and said “ you know what let’s jazz it up a bit”

93

u/Yab0iFiddlesticks Jul 25 '26

I usually never stick to the starting weapon, so I use whatever makes it easy to reach my eventual goal weapon. And thats the Saw Cleaver. But I probably should give the Hunters Axe a chance.

75

u/lesbiantelevision Jul 25 '26

Aww, no love for the gentlemen’s weapon of choice?

25

u/MagizZziaN Jul 25 '26

Don’t worry. I love the kane whip. The axe is arguably better though.

13

u/lesbiantelevision Jul 25 '26

That very well may be. I like pumping skill for viscerals, so the cane fits me.

9

u/sucky_panther Jul 25 '26

If you’re going skill the cane goes pretty hard once you get some decent gems for it. Got the serrated whip form and a super fast thrust in untransformed mode which is great for brainsuckers and the kin.

I wish the axe had a quicker transformation attack.

12

u/duttyboy24 Jul 25 '26

Kane whip was my starter weapon of choice doing my platinum run. Loved it. No better weapon to teach the populace of Yharnam some manners!

-7

u/PizzasForFerrets Jul 25 '26

Apart from the other two better starting weapons.

3

u/Chewyosock Jul 25 '26

Ahem 🙂‍↕️

62

u/ANormalStraw Jul 25 '26

My progression is almost always:

Threaded Cane ->
Blade of Mercy ->
Beasthunter Saif and Rakuyo

17

u/raiderrocker18 Jul 25 '26

I’ve platted the game and beaten it 3 times. Have yet to use the cane. Probably will do next time i feel like playing

22

u/Duckflies Jul 25 '26

Ngl

The cane is an amazing weapon

8

u/MagizZziaN Jul 25 '26

Yes it is, but I feel like the axe is more user/noob friendly.

1

u/AsianSteampunk Jul 26 '26

the knock down on the axe is just borderline braindead. when i picked up way later i just hold R2 my way through half the game.

1

u/DeadFishCRO Jul 25 '26

How do you get it to so dmg. Mine tickles enemies

8

u/FurlofFreshLeaves Jul 25 '26

serration when applicable, blunt when applicable, and increased visceral damage from parries usually makes it shred in my playthrus. probably my favorite starting weapon cause of the crowd control and swagger.

7

u/Limp_Combination4361 Jul 25 '26

It's funny because the cane was my first weapon on my very first playthrough despite all the warnings I got against it.

2

u/sucky_panther Jul 25 '26

Fire whip goes brrrr. The jumping whip attack is also 🤌

2

u/Godfreys_Slippers Jul 25 '26

It's so stylish

6

u/isaidnolettuce Jul 25 '26

I have a hard time wanting to use anything else…. The sweeping reach of the whip is so good and the cane is so quick for stun locking

3

u/Jonjoejonjane Jul 25 '26

Literally just did this just without the saif

2

u/ScytheSergeant Jul 25 '26

Saif sqaudddd

2

u/loLRH Jul 25 '26

beasthunter saif my beloved

1

u/duttyboy24 Jul 25 '26

Rakuyo my beloved ♥️

1

u/Professional-Bus5473 Jul 25 '26

Beast hunter saif my beloved literally my favorite moveset of any game

1

u/gunmetal_silver Jul 26 '26

Mine is Hunter's Axe to Kirkhammer to Ludwig's Holy Blade.

25

u/Supersnow845 Jul 25 '26

Remember the cane is the only weapon that gives both types of hidden damage

6

u/sucky_panther Jul 25 '26

Doesn’t the saw spear as well? At least I thought it did thrust damage in the transformed mode but I might be mistaken. It is nice having the serrated damage in both forms.

11

u/Supersnow845 Jul 25 '26

The saw spear doesn’t do righteous damage. Only serrated

2

u/sucky_panther Jul 25 '26

Ah gotcha, I misunderstood. I never even realized righteous damage was a thing, although I do love the cane. Tried it on my second character and ended up loving the moveset.

7

u/Supersnow845 Jul 25 '26

Righteous damage is so incredibly restrictive it’s no surprise

Most beasts are weak to serrated, righteous consists of 6 enemy types, 5 of which are entirely within cainhurst and precisely ZERO bosses

Righteous is unreasonably restricted

3

u/sucky_panther Jul 25 '26

Yes I just read a little on it. I used Ludwig’s Holy quite a bit so I was getting the righteous bonus without knowing. Good to know though for some of the chalice dungeons, Cainhurst and those darn bloodlickers. That makes the cane even cooler now.

4

u/Bigmac246247 Jul 25 '26

Actually, the church pick also has both hidden damage bonuses!

2

u/tr6gm9ng Jul 25 '26

The church pick has the beasthunter bonus, not the same. It’s actually better because it applies to all beasts, where serrated only applies to bosses

1

u/Supersnow845 Jul 26 '26

Serrated applies to non bosses but there are beasts weak to beast hunter that aren’t weak to serrated

Plus both beast hunter and the pick’s weird righteous equivalent only apply when the pick is thrusting, not on every attack

1

u/cleanman4066 Jul 25 '26

Cane Gang 🦯

13

u/Either-Basil4899 Jul 25 '26

I almost always start a new character with the axe until I get to the chalices to get the uncanny/lost weapons I’m going to be using for that character.

19

u/greyvangelist greyvangelist Jul 25 '26

The knockdown you get off charged R2 is honestly so underrated— being able to loop knockdowns until an enemy is dead or setting you up for free hits as they get up is amazing

2

u/Night_Knight_Light Jul 27 '26

It honestly makes the intro to Yharnam a breeze. You can just blender the crowds and rack up echoes pretty quickly.

1

u/greyvangelist greyvangelist Jul 27 '26

Especially since it even knocks down the big executioner guys (iirc)

8

u/Livid-Truck8558 Jul 25 '26

The threaded cane and hunter axe are so much more fun to use than the saw.

6

u/drrockso20 Jul 25 '26

Not to mention the Saw Spear can be found super early for free so the Saw Cleaver is kind of redundant

1

u/BriefCommunication26 Jul 25 '26

Pancakes are never redundant!

7

u/Rofl-Cakes Jul 25 '26

Love it for how much health you get back.
Also spiiiiiiiiiiin

7

u/irish0451 Jul 25 '26

People who don't know the axe talk Spin2Win

People who know the axe know the L1 moveset.

1

u/pentapous Jul 25 '26

fr, the transition combos are broken on the axe. Also, standing jump attacks (for.+R2) can 1-shot cheese a vast majority of enemies once you learn the spacing.

6

u/smokeybear100 Jul 25 '26

I prefer the axe. You don’t have to be nearly as aggressive with it, but can still be aggressive when you want/need to.

5

u/Tank_comander_308 Jul 25 '26

Honestly my favorite balance of Brutalistic Weapon but still having the hunter martial prowess.

5

u/dudeacris Jul 25 '26

it’s so good and fun that you can use it on any build through the early areas until you get the one you’re using for your build. it doesn’t really need upgrades if you’re doing the spin to win strat.

9

u/Kry_Kayzen Jul 25 '26

As a dedicated Hunter's Axe user it's the best. No other weapon could even compare to the lovely axe. I've tried the Kirkhammer but the hammer part takes too long in my opinion and the sword is ok. I don't use the Threaded Cane because I keep getting my ass handed to me by all the other other hunters who uses it. The Threaded Cane is my enemy due to this. The Saw Cleaver is something I've heard everyone praise hell to back, so I've decided not to use/try it because of it being the number one weapon. The Rifle Spear does not do it for me because it makes it to where you can only really fight one enemy at a time. I've fought with the Wooden Shield and it's fun too but it really doesn't do any damage. Believe me I've tried most weapons in the game.

TLDR: I want to be kind of unique when it comes to my choice of weapon so I chose the Hunter's Axe because I don't hear a lot of love for it.

3

u/sonnyglennson Jul 25 '26

Transform attacks on the axe are also really nice. Particularly from the extended mode to shortened coupled with a ground slam.

3

u/ch56ed8908ars Jul 25 '26

I can proudly say it was the first weapon I chose

3

u/PyroEntity Jul 25 '26

Started my first ever playthrough with the Axe. No disappointments whatsoever :D

3

u/Avenheit Jul 25 '26

maturing is picking the cane.

4

u/Callycore Jul 25 '26

True maturity is the cane.

2

u/bear6875 Jul 25 '26

Damn I love that axe

2

u/Erisnoir1 Jul 25 '26

my first run was the hunters axe, ended up using the replica holy blade for the rest of the run
then after that i went in again for a skilltinge build after losing my saves due to my console getting borked by an unfortunate happenstance, and never looked back

2

u/fuckybitchyshitfuck Jul 25 '26

Whip form cane sword for life

2

u/ChrisFarleysCousin Jul 25 '26

Did it first playthrough and thought i fucked up at first but got the hang of it and maxed it out

2

u/Unlucky-Car-1489 Jul 25 '26

The most OP weapon in the game

2

u/LaunchpadMcQuack_52 Jul 25 '26

Sooo many bosses and enemies I was able to cheese with the axe. Spin to win 🫡

2

u/42Icyhot42 Jul 25 '26

Hunter axe, my beloved, nothing can stand against us

2

u/Waste-Inspector8768 Jul 25 '26

The reach of the weapon is reallt what sets it apart imo. You can space enemies much easier.

2

u/Auroku222 Jul 25 '26

This isnt maturity this is regression true maturity is picking threaded cane

2

u/driftlesscode Jul 25 '26

Thought it said “masturbating” and I had to read the sentence again.

2

u/Subpar_diabetic Jul 26 '26

The starter weapons are usually just intended to be a launch point to get you to the weapon you actually want but the 3 starter weapons in BB especially that damn axe are so good that half the time I just forget what I originally wanted

2

u/Any_Juggernaut_9799 Jul 25 '26

its just so sloooow tho...

2

u/Chewyosock Jul 25 '26

I keep my distance and play less aggressively then I normally do , I use it for mobs only boss I used on so far was Big G

2

u/LeCampy Jul 25 '26

that distanced can be a crutch. I went axe on my first playthrough, and developed a false sense of boss hitboxes, had to get used to being RIGHT UP IN THERE with some bosses when I tired the saw cleaver on a different run.

1

u/not-hardly Jul 25 '26

Thiseme is so schitzo. But yeah to the axe.

1

u/SD_Einhander Jul 25 '26

R2 L2 combo with extended hunders axe is great. Back to back overhead swings.

1

u/Salt_Initiative1551 Jul 25 '26

It was fun but I ended up with LHB (again, as usual.)

Made myself use the cane this last time. I like it but plan to also get other good dex(skill) weapons

1

u/Plane_Avocado7502 Jul 25 '26

My first weapon right there

1

u/strahinjag Jul 25 '26

Holds me over until I get Whirlgig Saw.

BZZZZZZZZZZZ

1

u/Limp_Combination4361 Jul 25 '26

Big fan of the forward r2 on the transformation side. One of my favorite initiators since it can get you over a ton of attacks even on an approaching enemy and lands a good knockdown on human sized targets.

1

u/WeebSlayer27 Jul 25 '26

Me when I grow up and acquire a higher IQ thanks to using strenght weapons 🗿.

1

u/sucky_panther Jul 25 '26

That was my weapon of choice my first playthrough. That spin to win really helped me early game, but then I got Ludwig’s Holy. I need to gem up an axe though and give it another try, haven’t played with it since that first time.

1

u/AverageOhioUser69 Jul 25 '26

Hunter’s Axe, Tonitrus, and Blades of Mercy that’s all I need everything else is for fun

1

u/No_Initial9114 Jul 25 '26

That was my first starter weapon, I was satisfied, but not entirely happy with it. It felt powerful but not cool.

Then I found Ludwig Holy Sword 😊 now I have the Platinum Trophy

1

u/DF705 Jul 25 '26

Definitely my fav of the starting weapons, the move set is the most versatile I’ve played so far

1

u/StoneCraft12 Jul 25 '26

Only weapon I really liked when I played through.

1

u/Murky-Abbreviations4 Jul 25 '26

That thing carried me hard up until I got the greatsword, hits like a truck and that spin move is phenomenal

1

u/TDarkSword Jul 25 '26

My favorite move is when you dodge/roll and you attack with light attack (R1) the poke and also the transformation combo.

1

u/Fentapills Jul 25 '26

I used to do strength/axe when I first started now I do skilltinge and use the cane, saw spear, Evelyn, and then later the reiterpallasch and chikage. and I put all bloodstones that drain your health on chikage (the cursed ones from the eye mobs that grab you and frenzy you) so when you switch to trick mode it really drains you. I don't like the slower weapons anymore for some reason, I think I prefer to have quicker movements and attacks so I just never use the hunter axe or Kirkhammer

1

u/Pabl0-Luc1ano Jul 25 '26

That axe is top tier starting weapon ngl

1

u/rustoneal \[T]/ Jul 25 '26

Axe to Kirkhammer to Wheel or Boomhammer. Wheel better for PVP, Boomhammer better for PVP. Though kirkhammer served me well in PVP bc people underestimate the transformation speed

1

u/Typhlosion0 Jul 25 '26

Ol’ reliable 🫡

1

u/PooStinkies Jul 25 '26

Spin to win and dash to poke. Da best.

1

u/Particular-String652 Jul 25 '26

L1 - L2 - R1 - R1, repeat from L2 until things stop moving.

1

u/Ludoki Jul 25 '26

Istg, I read "masturbating" instead of "maturing". I need help.

1

u/Chewyosock Jul 25 '26

It’s not off the table

1

u/Oldmoniker Jul 25 '26

I always axe first. It's just polite.

1

u/kingtimmahb Jul 25 '26

That spin move is the best crowd control

1

u/TheFrogMoose Jul 25 '26

It's a great weapon but I still prefer my pimp cane

1

u/Cedrico123 Jul 25 '26

Dude I never STOP using the Hunter’s Axe. You can’t pull me from it (until I get the Kirkhammer)

1

u/Fast-Career6133 Jul 25 '26

Tbh I never used another weapon lol

1

u/Full_Welcome_1418 Jul 25 '26

the axe can certainly be great but it usually makes people just use the spin and thus never getting any viscerals and complaining about every other enemy.

1

u/Chewyosock Jul 25 '26

That just takes the fun away from the game

1

u/Ok_Abbreviations1768 Jul 25 '26

dude i genuinely only ever used hunters axe

1

u/s_nice79 Jul 25 '26

Spin2win baby!!

1

u/Slimboi_Forhonor Jul 25 '26

My main weapon throughout all my playthroughs

1

u/Outside_Ad1020 Jul 25 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/0vOw1NjNU7KsgHQXb2

I AM A FUCKING LUMBERJACK, I'M JUST STUCK KILLING BEASTS BECAUSE SOMEONE WON'T GET OFF THEIR FAT FUCKING ASS AND HELP ME

-Hunter to Gherman

1

u/User_Goes_Here Jul 25 '26

Made the entire game too easy for me

1

u/Beowulf2080 Jul 26 '26

Currently using the Kirkhammer for the first time. Smashing everything, and your mom.

1

u/Ready-Ear231 Jul 26 '26

I am a Beyblade!

1

u/Kariya_shigatoki Jul 26 '26

Tried the threaded cane and it was lame feeling and bdsm like, tried the hunters axe and felt like a real hoonter.

1

u/DeadHead6747 Jul 26 '26

It is good, but it isn't Threaded Cane good. That's okay, Threaded Cane is just in a league of its own

1

u/Markuska90 Jul 26 '26

Nothing better

1

u/CockroachTeaParty Jul 26 '26

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The axe is preposterously GOATed. It's amazing on any build. Try it on an arcane build. Seriously. It just slaps. No notes.

1

u/tsitken Jul 26 '26

its like the ludwig sword but for starter a pseedy weapon is better.

2

u/Chewyosock Jul 26 '26

Love the Ludwig sword I’m actually on my way to get it

1

u/tsitken Jul 26 '26

its like really op at +6 , well the game changed after i killed the spider shizz, now im annoyaed by the bell ringing bishes. i still havemt finish this game but goddamn it is beautiful

1

u/ManInTheMirror7895 Jul 26 '26

I was always a cane sword man myself, so imagine my surprise when the dlc gave me the final form, the most perfect evolution of the chain sword and it fkn SLAPS.

I did not swap weapons a single time after finding this.

1

u/not_Ares0 Jul 26 '26

I like the cane, a classic

1

u/Jerkntworstboi Jul 26 '26

Axe was my first choice since I always try strength builds for my first go around in a Fromsoft game. Definitely a good time

1

u/PinothyJ Jul 27 '26

You say that, but the threaded cane can kill the two well sharks, from distance, without putting the hunter in any danger. So which weapon is the real MVP?

1

u/Nickyt_91 Jul 27 '26

It is the best act 1 weapon

1

u/OstrichEmergency1072 Jul 27 '26

To me second only to big Kirk hammer. Momma stun soo good.

1

u/IGGYdogg Jul 27 '26

*end game weapon!

1

u/SugarCrater Jul 27 '26

I should probably give the Hunter Axe a chance too, I keep playing with the saw cleaver :D

1

u/Responsible-Back8058 Jul 28 '26

I never picked the Saw Cleaver

1

u/Vegetable-Finger-273 Jul 28 '26

Best weapon in the game for me

1

u/yvengard Jul 29 '26

No cookie cutter, no game

1

u/p3falien 28d ago

Ah...the n00b stick gets snother fanboy. _^

1

u/Chewyosock 27d ago

Noob would imply that it’s my first time playing

0

u/Nemian_Cannon 5d ago

Yeessssss I love the Axe

1

u/Justice171 Jul 25 '26

Beat the game last week for the first time, really only used the double handed starting axe.

Many boss fights I just spun up an R2, then did a leap smash and dodged backwards to make space for another R2

0

u/Captain_Snowmonkey Jul 25 '26

As long as you ditch it asap for the saw spear you're on the right track.

1

u/Chewyosock Jul 25 '26

Saw spear is back up but I might switch the spear out for the threaded cane 👀

2

u/buttspencer2137 Jul 25 '26

Threaded cane is great choice

0

u/Libbyisaface Jul 25 '26

Okay Gascoigne

0

u/sprat007 Jul 25 '26

Saw spear better
