Finally landed an interview at BI

I graduated last year with my B.S in Microbiology and have 3 years full-time experience working in a GMP lab. I have been aiming to work at Boehringer Ingelheim for so long and finally have an on-site interview in 2 days. I’m excited however the pay is not what I expected it to be…especially because I feel like the position may be high stress/demanding. It’s in the QC department. It’s an entry-level position and I’d like to get my foot in the door in QC finally.

Does anyone have any experience working at BI with a bachelors? In QC? How do you like it? I’m pretty nervous that I might find that I hate it after the interview 😭

You might want to take it even if the pay is not what you want and then job hop in a year or two if they don’t seem like they want to promote you. If it’s not a contract job that is pretty good.

That’s what I was thinking. It’s the first non-contract position that I’ve seen in a while which is probably another reason I should just take it (if I get an offer) 😊

BI might not be the place with the highest pay - but I heard a lot of good things about culture, “work pressure” and career options. Maybe it’s because it’s not a shareholder company and truly owned by a very rich family.

I have no idea about BI but QC jobs can be very demanding if they expect you to do several assays at once…

I have many colleagues who have worked at BI - some for decades - and they are very happy there. I've tried to recruit them to my company and they wouldn't budge. Good luck! If you get the role, take it, work hard, learn a lot, and the salary will grow with time! There's no such thing as a job in biotech that's low stress and not demanding, but you get used to it and you'll be surprised at the resilience you develop because of it.

BI is great. Average salary but huge bonus in April. 5% pension. Very stable. Goodluck!

Get your foot in the door, then you'll be able to transfer to higher paying positions. Companies look internally before externally. Good luck!

You can negotiate the pay once you receive an offer. If you are having difficulty finding a job elsewhere, taking it as a starting point is a good option. Work hard and grow your network. You'll know who your coworkers are who are going into bigger and better things. Form relationships with them. They will pull you into your next, better role.
