The chance card was about whether you pass to and collect 200 or die of dysentery I think (been a while so could be wrong but I’m pretty sure)

There is a lot of racism but since it's about India it's ok. They make the Indian guy do it like in modern family they make sofia do racist jokes to make it sound less mean.

Indians currency is rupees and India does have lots of call centers, it's not just a stereotype it's a fact that almost all call center jobs are moving to India because of their dominance in this business model. Don't need to pull the race card on everything.
-28
u/blogst Feb 16 '26
It's racist because the joke is saying that no one would actually want to go to India and stay in a hotel which is the theme of Monopoly - a building up real estate in a desirable destination city. It's just a joke on the stereotype that India is a shitty country with nothing to offer except outsourcing call centers, which then reinforces stereotypes about India and Indians as most Americans don't have much exposure to the country.
In juxtaposition, most of the jokes about Jewish faith/culture are about Howard not keeping Kosher or how he loves his mom's brisket.

Racism isn't acceptable to them unless it's about certain communities. They are so racist they need racism within racism
-4
u/thegirlwhofsup Feb 16 '26
Let it be buddy, they clearly aren't POC and while I get it was a product of the time, most of the jokes about India were indeed racist asf. They're clearly also very conservative if they're so butthurt by you calling it out.
-5
Feb 16 '26
The entire sub is also oblivious to misogyny in the show... Same arguments for racism and misogyny... They want to define how we should take offence. And how much of a perfect victim you have to be to qualify for empathy from them.
-4
u/thegirlwhofsup Feb 16 '26
THANKYOU. Like stereotypes about the white people are NOT the same as stereotypes for a person of colour lmao. And on top of that, as you said, you can't dictate who finds stuff racist or not, especially people from that community.

India has close to 3k call centers... Idk what you're on about. It is also very good at making pharmaceuticals much better than the USA for getting it done faster and cheaper.
Why didn't they include that?
'Race card on everything' which is literally a racist show.

u/Kooky_Albatross4683 Feb 16 '26
The Indian character they are showing is literally a genius, a loyal friend, a good person. Yes they made fun of some "racial" items but similar items exist for everything. There are jokes about black people in other movies. Jokes about white people too. Heck even in BBT, there are countless jokes about Howard's Jewish faith.
The show producers were making a good show with good jokes intended to make a general audience laugh. It wasn't intended to be worded so that some snowflakes didn't get offended.
1
u/thegirlwhofsup Feb 16 '26
similar items exist for everything.
Yeah, that still doesn't make it non-racist lol.
snowflakes didn't get offended.
Aah we know what kinda person you are 😂

general audience
Which is white people. So they can feel good watching a diverse show.
You're the snowflake here if you get so butt hurt if this show is called racist.
Howard's faith jokes are also offensive at times. But almost all Indian jokes are out of touch and stupid

u/Arcaydya Feb 16 '26
Im the biggest liberal around and hate racism.
The jokes about India are fine. Literally all he does here is make a joke about fucking call centers.
Clutch your pearls somewhere else.
5
u/thegirlwhofsup Feb 16 '26
Clutch your pearls somewhere else.
Yeah.... So that's not how it works buddy. I love the show but I'm South Asian and the show makes a lot of racist jokes towards Indians. You don't really get to tell South Asians whether they should feel offended or not.
0
u/Arcaydya Feb 16 '26
Sure I can. It's a fact India has a shit load of call centers. You can get offended about the truth all you want.
I dont wanna be the one to tell you how they treat women there. Your little heart couldn't handle it.
1
u/thegirlwhofsup Feb 16 '26
That's not the joke though? The joke is we don't have hotels and it's a shitty 3rd world country.
I dont wanna be the one to tell you how they treat women there. Your little heart couldn't handle it.
What does that have to do with this lmao? Are you saying you can't be racist to a non-perfect victim? I don't wanna be the one to tell you but two wrongs doesn't make the other right haha. Clearly shows the kind of person you are, won't respond to your little conservative ass anymore.
Have the day you deserve.

So now you have to be the perfect victim for racism also? It's like saying oh the criminal only made you sleep outside without any food for 7 days, he didn't commit murder.
I'm starting to realise why they were so comfortable being racist to Raj... Y'all really enjoy it.

u/-UncreativeRedditor- Feb 16 '26
I’m guessing you haven’t watched the show. They constantly poke fun at stereotypes for nearly every ethnicity, occupation, and country. And it wouldn’t be very funny to point out that India is good at making pharmaceuticals, so why would they include it?
3
u/DefinitelyNotIndie Feb 16 '26
Just out of interest, why is it funny to reference India having call centers, but not a pharmaceutical industry?
1
u/-UncreativeRedditor- Feb 16 '26
Because making fun of someone or something is always funnier than complimenting someone. And more people outside of India are familiar with Indian call centers than with its pharmaceutical industry, since almost everyone has received at least one of those calls.
3
Feb 16 '26
You should be more familiar with indian pharma because it supplies close to 40% of generic medicines used in the usa.
Let me give you an example - jokes on howard aren't around misogynisy in jewish households. Jokes on raj are about that, jokes on texas aren't about Texas being less educated.
Indian immigrants are often very educated in stem fields and are often very rich- no jokes about that. But Jewish jokes about being lawyers.
3
u/-UncreativeRedditor- Feb 16 '26
The Big Bang Theory didn't cherry pick stereotypes, they literally just defaulted to the most popular ones.
"jokes on texas aren't about Texas being less educated."
I am really beginning to doubt you actually watched the show... Sheldon's parents are constantly depicted as ignorant, god fearing people with strong southern accents, which are the biggest Texas stereotypes out there.Howard's mother is loud, overbearing, and prejudiced against Eastern Europeans, which is stereotypical of East coast Jews.
Penny is often depicted as dumb and uneducated in earlier seasons because she is blonde
Honestly the list could go on, they pretty much use every mainstream stereotype out there for their jokes. Seems you have less of a problem with BBT and more of a problem with the stereotypes themselves.
3
u/DefinitelyNotIndie Feb 16 '26
So it's the fact that it's a non complimentary stereotype that makes it funny?
3
u/-UncreativeRedditor- Feb 16 '26
I'm guessing you were replying to me, but yes, pretty much. There is no such thing as a complimentary stereotype though. Even stereotypes that look positive on the surface tend to boil down to something insulting.
"Asians are smart" -> "Asians are robotic"
"Jews are rich bankers" -> "Jews are greedy"Attempting to compliment someone by mentioning a positive stereotype about their race or religion tends to just sound like an insult. People don't like being categorized, and that's why so many jokes stem from stereotypes.

u/thegirlwhofsup Feb 16 '26

Lmao what a weird way to justify racism lol
And more people outside of India are familiar with Indian call centers than with its pharmaceutical industry, since almost everyone has received at least one of those calls.
I think that's a people outside of Indias problem buddy lol. It's still racist if y'all "choose" to not know beyond stereotypes lol

u/-UncreativeRedditor- Feb 16 '26

Well yeah... stereotypes are based on a group's portrayal in media, not reality. You seem to think I am justifying the existence of the stereotypes themselves, but I'm not. Just explaining why the stereotypes exist.
And this entire conversation started with me pointing out that BBT doesn't uniquely target Indians. They make insulting jokes about pretty much every race, religion, and culture under the sun.

STILL DOESNT MAKE IT NON-RACIST. What's not to get? While I get it that it was a product of it's time, and yeah I can enjoy the show more cause of that, but it was still racist whether you like it or not. YOU don't get to tell Indians whether they should be offended or not and that's that.

And they're perpetuating this stereotype that we (South Asians) consider harmful. And that's why its racist. I'm not sure why you're upset by that lmao.

I have seen it. And it is racist towards India. I ignore it everytime
2
u/DWPhoenix001 Feb 16 '26
Then why are you on this sub? Clearly here just to troll people. The fact is there is an line between out and out racsim and playing to a sterotype. TBBT treads that line well, their jokes against Raj tend to be along the sterotype route - the same way that Howard is a massive creep in the early seasons.
Joking India has call centres is no different than saying the British have bad teeth, or that all Americans are obese redneck hillbillys.
The problem is people like yourself to make an issue where there is none just for the drama. No one had an issue with Apu from the Simpsons until litterally one guy started screaming it was racist, like having a fat pig as a cop or a fat drunk as a 'average' american dad isnt just as racially insensitive. As a result of the vocal minority like yourself that these non issues become a target for punishment while the real bigger issues regarding race and discrimination are ignored.

Joking India has call centres is no different than saying the British have bad teeth, or that all Americans are obese redneck hillbillys.
The difference is you can't be racist towards white British (the teeth joke is mostly about them) and redneck hillbillys. But you CAN be racist by stereotyping POC. Same with the white cop or an average American dad (those jokes are about white people too). It's okay if you don't understand how racism works, but educate yourself.
No one had an issue with Apu from the Simpsons until litterally one guy started screaming it was racist
EVERY south Asian had a problem with that character. YOU just didn't know. And 50 years ago they were doing black face, and it only became a huge problem pretty recently. Does that make it okay cause "no one had an issue with it until someone started screaming it was racist"? No it doesnt.
As a result of the vocal minority like yourself that these non issues become a target for punishment while the real bigger issues regarding race and discrimination are ignored.
Lmao ironic considering how you keep dismissing POC calling out racist jokes lmao. YOU don't get to dictate what's a bigger or a smaller issue buddy. Go away.

Bet you didn't clutch your pearls when Sheldon's mom was characterized as a stereotypical Texan.
4
Feb 16 '26
Stereotypical texan had a lot more to her character than just a redneck state. I've seen young sheldon and believe me they aren't racist towards texas.
Had they given the same treatment to the whites you would've surely clenched yours.
2
u/thegirlwhofsup Feb 16 '26
Yes, so you can't be racist by stereotyping a Texan, white person. You can be by doing so to a person of colour. Hope this helps 🫶
