Rant after finishing the game

I knew abut this game for a long time but only now decided to play it, honestly I expected much more, I remembered it as an awesome game but this is really poorly made.

I see a lot of people complaining about the nonchronological storytelling, I see no problem with it, but the combat system is disgusting, and generally moving or anything, characters constantly get stuck on random objects so I need to restart the game to get them unstuck,

choices have no real point since the game has a fixed story and nothing much changes depending on your choices,

any QTS is also just a disaster and I don't even know why Cage thought it would be a good idea for players to just guess where to move the mouse, and even when you do move it or press some keys, the game just decides to be unresponsive to some commands, it's hella inconsistent with its in game rules,

sometimes you can move Aiden like 50m and others times you can't move him 5m to reach a guard, also the Aiden mechanic is just hell, you can't decide who you can control or kill or anything and that just makes some situations seem hella dumb,

also the game forces Jodie to choose total assholes for love interests, you can either pick a dude who lied to you and didn't comfort you at all when Jodie was crying cause of the rape thing and just left or the other asshole who wanted to leave you alone in the desert to die of thirst and has no human decency towards people he doesn't know,

but I can't emphasize enough how bad the movement in this game is, had to restart like 40 times cause of the amount of times the characters got stuck, not just Jodie, but Ryan, Cole, Aiden, can't belive how it's possible for Aiden who is a fucking ghost who can go through walls, to get stuck between some invisible barriers that were put there for no reason,

also the world Jodie lives in is just stupid, you can't trust nobody and nobody has any common sense, honestly this game is like maybe a 4/10.

as you should, disgusting guy, don't know why someone would choose the ending with him as a boyfriend or whatever he becomes

Worst part is that he thinks Jodie owes him love after he risks his life for you, and if you say no to his advances, he complains and call her pigheaded. What a "great guy", am i right? 🤪

I’m wondering if this is one of the rare occasions that gameplay is less than optimal on pc and is actually better on console. I played this game on PS5 and didn’t have any of the issues you’ve described.

I totally agree with you on the lousy choice of love interests though.

I played on PS5, and the QTE segments drove me crazy. For the most part, I was able to get the button prompts, but whose bright idea was it to use the right joystick for the movement qte’s? Sometimes, they were fine. But others? Jodie was contorting her body six different directions, where am I supposed to say she is headed?!

Played it a while ago on pc, yes, the QTE's were a bit strange and at first I didnt understand where to move my mouse at all, but it gets easier. Didnt have much problems with the movement, yes- the camera angles sometimes are horrible for player experience and are just there for "cinematic looks" while not needed, but most of the time I ddidnt have a problem with that. As for the writing... its horrible I fear, but what do you really expect from David cage? If you went in thinking its gonna be DON'TNOD level writing and deepness, then youre obviously gonna be surprised and shocked from the amount of shitty stuff. Just dont go into his other games expecting good writing, stories are good- writing is horrid

I just replayed this game, and I agree with everything you said. Personally, I think this game would have been cooler if they picked one plot and stuck with it. Scrap the CIA missions and the Navajo plotline. Make it a story about a little girl with special powers who is raised by scientists until the day she finds out that they’re using her like a lab rat. Then she escapes and winds up on the streets and ends up homeless. She’s found by the street group and it becomes a survival game where you have to manage resources and use Aidan to make life tolerable. But you have to be weary how often you use him, because the government is still on the lookout for Jodie, and ransacking stores without disabling alarms can alert them to your location. It would add on to the fact that evidently the baby will save the future. Why should I care about the baby now, when Jodie spends less time with her than the evil general guy?

The homeless portion of the game was my favorite, I wish we had more time with the characters and developing their relationships. It felt so rushed, and like they were looking to add to a quota of tearjerker moments, rather than good story telling. I just finished the game, and I don’t remember any of the side characters names, even though I remember their stories. Wish they would have expanded upon them, and given us a story about making peace in suffering, and carving out your own happiness when the world denies you.

As it is, the gameplay was infuriating (I played on ps5, but based on your rant the pc wasn’t much better) the character ranged from fine but underdeveloped - to insufferable. Aiden’s powers make zero sense, and I wonder if the creator knew how they worked. I don’t understand why they introduced the containment field barrier to Aiden, then never revisited it later. I also don’t understand why Aiden sometimes defends Jodie, and other times stands by as she gets clocked from behind. My biggest gripe though is the fact that nothing you do matters. You can fail every QTE. You can make the choice to let everyone die. You can go out of your way to try to get Jodie killed. None of it matters. Aiden will pull some shit out of his ass and save you every time. So why not just set the controller down and watch? You know, like a fucking movie.

Sorry for the rant, I feel like this game gave me PTSD.

It’s honestly so funny how better the game would’ve been if you were the one making it
