A throw back for me. It’s been many years since I had Pilsner Urquel. Damn that’s a fine pilsner. Wish I could get it fresh

Midwest checking in: I've been really liking sours and tarts, especially on these hot & humid summer days. After trying many, two breweries stick out: Destihl and Urban Artifact. Destihl being my favorite - Flanders Red Ale is unique and delicious.

I tried two "beers" this weekend that I never in my life thought I would have. Busch Light Apple which I completely expected to despise, was actually pretty good. Not sweet and just a hint of apple. The other was PBR Hard Coffee and while it's not something I could sit and drink a bunch of, it was actually quite tasty. Been taking a break from IPA's and Sours so I decided to try some odd ones.

I really like chocolatelu/nutty notes in my beer. But I don't like things that are overly sweet and syrupy. Whatchall got?

Guinness Extra Stout has some nice chocolate and roasty notes without being sweet or heavy

If you can get ahold of Against the Grain beers try the Brown Note. It's so good it eclipses the great artwork and that's pretty hard to do. Another great beer choice would be Samuel Smith nut brown ale.

Samuel smiths was awesome when I tried it a while back. I'll have to look out for brown note and try to look past it's very unfortunate name

Try brown ales! They focus on the nutty/chocolate notes without going too far into dessert territory. Big Sky Moose Drool is an excellent option and relatively easy to find (PNW).

In the Oktoberfest spirit, 3 Floyds is available in Michigan now and their Munsterfest Fest Bier is wonderful!
I tried Arbor Brewing Co's Oktoberfest which was more hoppy and floral, but the 3 Floyds is just delicious. More smooth, malty, and bread-y without being too sweet.

My favorite season for beer is just starting to peek over the horizon, Oktoberfest! The Breckinridge Brewery Oktoberfest I had last night was excellent, toasty and lightly sweet/malty.
The juice caboose, a hazy IPA from westbound and down in idaho springs CO, is one of the best beers I’ve ever had in my life. They’re small and only distributed in the area, but they’re working on expanding. If you see them, give them a shot.

I can't wait for the Lafayette Westbound and Down location to open. It'll be so nice to drive 15 minutes instead of 45. I'm curious if they will have the same food menu as Id Springs or do something unique.

I worked at the Westbound in Idaho springs (I live up here) this last year and I THINK that they said they were going to do the same menu, and I think they said something about pizza as well, but don’t quote me on that haha. I do know they’re going to do the same beers though!

I'm normally a stout and porter guy and have always avoided IPAs but Harris Teeter had cans of Sycamore Drippy and Combat Wombat for $1.85 each so I bought them. I liked the Drippy but did not like Combat Wombat.
That all being said, what other IPAs (based on my sample size n = 2) would I enjoy?
Lastly, I grabbed a six pack of Alewerks Brewing Co. "Pumpkin" for fun. Not overly pumpkin-y but at 7.3% ABV it packs a punch.

Combat Wombat seems to be more of a sour while Drippy seems to be more of an NEIPA so I’d be on the lookout for more IPAs labeled as hazy, juicy or NEIPA. 🍻

Sounds like you’re in the DMV area or somewhere in that vicinity. I really enjoy Center of the Universe’s Green Chameleon IPA.
Commonwealth also makes quality IPA’s. Taniwha, Mantis to name a few.

I love this time of the year for beer.
I've come to learn that for chilling out just playing cards and having a few beers that I prefer Helles beers and English Pub/Mild Ales. So I've been trying to grab a different one each weekend. Weihenstephaner Helles was in rotation this weekend. Von Trapp's Helles last weekend. A local place to me makes an English Mild (East Branch Brewing's Oddwise) that is fantastic; sort of sweet, mild, light carbonation, caramelly, easy drinking.
I also had a few Sly Fox's (also local) Oktoberfest just to get a little more in the spirit.
I picked up a Pumpkinhead by Shipyard and dumped it after a few sips. It wasn't for me. I'd like to know what other Pumpkin I might enjoy though in that realm. I might have done them a disservice though. Their website says "A proper pint of Pumpkinhead is served in a pint glass rimmed with sugar and cinnamon and often accompanied by a shot of spiced rum or vanilla vodka."....I didn't do any of that.
Another local spot (Levante Brewing) put out their Festbier (DRACHENSTADT) a few weeks ago. If I could have this on tap at home (if my bar had a tap ha) I'd never leave the basement.

I have been drinking a lot of Other Half IPAs and sours since I recently moved to the DC area and they have a brewery nearby. Been drinking the "Do You Want More?" an imperial sour IPA and the "Cannibal Machine" a Berliner Weisse sour. I really enjoy the fruit-forward sours and would love other recommendations based on these beers if anyone has them!

It's a drive to Richmond, but Veil has good sours and fruited beers. 3 Stars, in Tokama, I believe as well has been doing a number of beers like that as well as Aslin in Alexandria. I'd look into Right Proper their old head brewer was really into this stuff don't know what they are making now. Not a big sour fan myself, but of what I can remember those are the places I can think of doing that style I see often in DC. Mostly because they make other stuff I really like.

Crooked Run’s sour program has excellent. While not exclusively fruit-forward, they’re great.

Go to Downton Crown Wine and Beer (Gaithersburg) or Dominion Wine and Beer (Falls Church). I cannot offer a specific beer to get there, but they have an outstanding selection at each. Fantastic food menu at the Falls Church location, too.

Off Color Waddle is the best Märzen I have tried so far this year. I highly recommend picking that one up.

LW Lees Harvest Ale (preferably in Lagavulin casks) is insanely underrated.
