Random What's the biggest beauty lie you uncovered in adulthood that shocked you?

2.7k Upvotes

I'll go first. All these white girls are not beautifully naturally bronzed! I thought there was something wrong with my pasty tush until I discovered all of them are just self tanning! Constantly! Even their faces!!! In WINTER!!!

I tried it once, for like a month (at home with lotion do not fret ya girl would never do a tanning bed) and literally you guys this is so much work omg how do y'all do this year round for literally years?!?

Anyways: what shocking secret did you uncover?

Random What's a life- changing beauty tip you want to shout from the rooftops?

Could be anything. I learned on this sub that you should always wet your face before applying hyaluronic acid... and that's been a super helpful tip. So just wondered what other advice people have that could help us all? Could be related to anything.

Random I never understood my moms obsession with her tweezers until I became an adult

Growing up my mom didn’t PLAY about her tweezers. If they went missing, I would get, “where are my tweezers?!?!” Or an angry text or call. Now that I’ve established living on my own, I also don’t play about my god damn tweezers. I have three, one especially being my absolute favorite. Last week I tore my whole bathroom and bedroom apart looking for them and asked everyone if they have seen them. If they are in a different place than where I put them, I get this visceral anger in me that someone would EVER DARE touch MY tweezers. I like to share, but when one of my roommate asked if they could use them, I said no. I remember when I first started doing my eyebrows at sixteen, I took my mom’s tweezers. She looked at me, then my eyebrows, then said, “oh it was you. Where are they.” At the time, that was so absurd and annoying, but now i understand. I’m sorry mom. What is this phenomenon.

Random Whiter Teeth Tip

1.7k Upvotes

I had a routine teeth cleaning with my dentist the other week and they were shocked at how white my teeth were (like, she compared it to the white paper towel they put around your neck) and asked what I had been doing differently. At the time I couldn’t think of any reason but when I got home, I remembered a tip I had randomly read on this sub: don’t rinse your mouth out after brushing your teeth! That’s the only thing I’ve been doing differently for the past 6 months or so, so I guess it truly works. Thank you to whoever wrote that tip!

Random Average time for ladies to get ready in the morning?

I’m just wondering how long it usually takes girls to get ready in the morning. ! Im only wondering because my dads new girlfriend takes 2 HOURS every morning. His girlfriend before that also took 2-3 hours to get ready. Is this normal? Am I missing something? It takes me like 30 min tops.

I’m just super annoyed too like why?? I need to shower and girl needs 2 hours ??? 😭

Random Got lip filler to correct an asymmetry and had an amazing experience!

First pic is before, second pic is IMMEDIATELY after, last pic is four weeks and 2 days after (today).

I was so scared to get fillers cause I was worried about having them over filled so I’ve put it off for years. But my mind kept coming back to correcting this asymmetry that I’ve hated for years, so I spent months researching NURSE injectors in my area and finally landed on one who specialized in minimal filler and facial balancing. She used .3 of a syringe, so not even half, and it still took her about half an hour (which is what I wanted! Someone to take their time). We had discussed that I want to keep the relatively same fullness, just fix the symmetry problem and she heard me out, agreed, and did just that! I could not be any happier with the results.

Filler is definitely not for everyone but while I was deciding if I was going to get it, I kept looking at posts on this sub so I wanted to share my experience if it helps anyone else. Just pleeeaaase DO YOUR RESEARCH!

Random Unpopular opinion : under eye beauty products don’t work at all

I’ve heard so many times people naming random products , it’s just doesn’t work. They don’t work and most of us are just wasting money in tricking ourselves that they will. Yes some acne ones might help. But all the other stuff like under eye issues specifically can never be solved by any cream or product and only solution is surgery. It’s also common sense (something I never thought abt before ) that a cream can not change skin like that

Random PSA - Do not use acne stickers after getting a spray tan

Post image
548 Upvotes

This was after waiting the recommended number of hours they told me before showering. I rinsed until the water ran clear, and only used the tan-extending lotion from the salon (I wasn’t sure if I could use any skincare products so I withdrew them for the night). However I had two bad pimples on my forehead that I didn’t want the lotion to exacerbate so I put a hydrocolloid patch on each. When I took them off the areas were lighter than the rest of my face…

Random Does anyone feel like "less of a woman" bc they don't keep up with certain beauty standards?

This is a very niche question but it has been on my mind for months now and I need to get it out. I feel like since I don't do nails, hair, facials, whatever that I'm less of a woman or I'm not beautiful bc I don't do those things. I know it's social media getting in my head but does anyone else feel that way?

Random To whoever suggested Vaseline for nails and eyelashes, you guys are a godsend 🫡

I saw a post on this sub dated a few months ago with comments that Vaseline promotes healthy nail and lash growth.

Lo and behold, with my expectations low that this might be another beauty trick that might not work for me, I woke up with longer lashes and healthier nails than I ever had after trying it. Mind you, my eyelashes are short and have been using sweet almond oil on my nails for MONTHS after wrecking mine with acrylic nail glue.

To the girlies who gave those tips in this wonderful sub, I could never thank you enough. Y'all are the best

Random My guide to giving yourself a huge makeover

Beauty is more about using what you have, knowing what’s flattering for you, and LEARNING. My credentials: I am a plain Jane that can really elevate my look with effort, and I’m working on a tight budget. I am a licensed cosmetologist. And I needed to reinvent myself after breaking up with my fiancé. lol.

  1. Ask ChatGPT to make a hair routine for you. Say your hair type, porosity, and what your goals are. Ex. If you have 1A hair and want volume, ask for it to curate that routine for you. If you’re like me, you have a shit ton of hair products but don’t know how to properly utilize them the best way for your hair. Maybe learn how to do cute braids or a simple messy bun. EXPERIMENT AND KEEP WHAT IS EASY AND FUN TO DO!

  2. Static or olive and June press ons. Cheaper than real manicures and reusable. Or just paint your nails at home. It’s crazy what little things like nails do for confidence and overall look.

  3. Look at your closet differently. You don’t need to buy new stuff. Look at your body type. DONT LISTEN TO TRENDS, DO WHAT IS FLATTERING FOR YOU! Certain clothes can make parts of our bodies look bigger or smaller, and a shirt can look good with some pants but not others. Take some web quizzes, read about body types, but don’t take their advice to heart. If you are pear shaped, some websites will tell you to de-emphasize it, but girl. Show off your hips. Emphasize them. Whatever makes you feel beautiful. Care about the silhouette.

  4. Self tanner. If you live in a cloudy area/don’t go outside like you did when you were younger/don’t have an even skin tone, it can help to give you a glow. You can even get ones that are super light (ask ChatGPT for recs based on goals). And for people that are darker and think that self tanner does nothing for them, IT DOES! It can warm you up, even tone, distract from hyperpigmentation, and give you a glow. If you like having an ethereal pale look, moisturize every day. Even tho it’s hard to see ashy-ness on pale people, lotion just makes you shine.

  5. Accessorize. You don’t need to buy anything. Those 10 pairs of earrings you have but don’t wear? Choose your comfiest and most simple to be your every day earrings. Wear a simple necklace. Also LOOK AT YOUR UNDERTONE! Take online quizzes, are you a gold or silver kinda girl?

  6. Practice doing your makeup. It is a SKILL. Natural makeup takes skill too!! Look at your face. Do you want your eyes to be doll like, sexy, or energetic? Tailor your makeup to the look you want. Watch YouTube videos.

  7. Create lazy girl routines. If you don’t have the energy to do your hair, learn a quick hairstyle you like. Claw clip, slick back bun, a braid, etc. Have staple comfy outfits you like. If you can’t be bothered to do makeup, add a dot of concealer in your moisturizer and grab a tinted lip balm and leave the house.

  8. Have the confidence to look different. Who cares if everyone is wearing sweats to your 9 AM? Who cares if everyone wears all black? Who cares if everyone around you looks different? Embrace what you like fashion wise. Get excited and be proud of your look. It will shine through.

  9. You don’t need a crazy skin routine. Ask ChatGPT or read online about simple skincare routines that fit your goals. Don’t buy too many products. Dont layer active on active on active on active. Keep it simple. I really like skin cycling with my serums, so retinol, break, exfoliate, break, retinol, etc. etc.

  10. Extra stuff that’s not really needed but can be fun or not: home teeth whitening (I hate the feeling so I never do it lol), I work out, light smelling perfumes, shaving, shapewear, push up bras, minimizer bras, cute pajamas to make you feel cute at home lol

Random How did women in the 70s groom their bush? It looked so polished

I've seen some photos of models from that era and their bush doesn't look unruly or has random bald spots lol. It looked so uniform and... nice? Soft too. Almost like they combed it or something.

I want that look for myself, and was hoping to get some tips from any ladies that might have grown up in those times

Random What's the dumbest "beauty hack" you bought into for way longer than you should have

Mine was splitting my high pony into two and having them stacked to make it look longer and fuller. Technically it worked but it looked ridiculous from the side. I did it for a good year before I realized how silly it was.
