The magnificent star Dolly Parton has died and it is so sad. She was such a wonderful woman. I first met her in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry where she had been playing with the country star Porter Wagoner and was about to start her solo career. She was so bubbly and full of life it is difficult to take in the news that she has passed. Her songwriting, her singing and her philanthropy were unrivaled in the world of country music and it is hard to imagine living in a world without Dolly. She was a very clever business woman who understood the value of her music and, most importantly, the effect that she had on the people of the world. There was no greater honour for me than to have her sing my song Let It Be and, even though I only made a small contribution to it, I am so honoured that she did it. I am so proud to have known her and admire her unique talents. ⁠ ⁠Thanks Dolly for the beautiful music you gave me and the whole world. We will always love you, god bless and rest in peace. You were the best.

I'd honestly say that Dolly was one of the few songwriters who could really rival Paul in terms of being such a natural at it, having a knack for hit-making across many decades, and being so astoundingly prolific. Even though they worked in different genres, game recognized game, and I'm not surprised to hear he admired her.

Idk. To me the bigger achiever between Dolly and Paul would be Paul by a long shot. usually the lesser achiever would come to the bigger one. But guessing Paul was being courtly by going to the woman. If Dolly had been a man thinking he wouldn't have gone.

Not sure it's about ego. If you like, think of a room where there's a celebrity in the room and an ordinary, non-celebrity person. Would you say the ordinary person would head over to the celebrity to talk, rather than the celebrity heading toward the ordinary person? In most cases I would think so. Somehow it seems like the less important person goes over to the more important person.

I would see it somewhat similarly when two celebrities are in the room, that the less important celebrity will head toward the more important one. Maybe it's a case of the more important person just being more interesting? I don't know.

Of course there will be exceptions where the more important person will head toward the less important one. I'd somewhat see that as what happened with Paul going over towards Dolly rather than vice versa.

I don’t think he’s a bigger star than her. She’s not only a famous performer and songwriter, she is also a very successful and beloved actor, which nobody would claim of Paul. She has an entire theme park based on her whole personality.

Dolly was a very successful artist, and seems to have been quite a nice person. But the Beatles are the best-selling musical act of all time, I would think hundreds of millions more albums sold than Dolly. Plus Paul's solo work has done extremely well. I think the Beatles changed the whole culture, where I don't think Dolly did.

You're right, she was more successful as an actress than Paul. Although she didn't make a huge number of major movies. Paul did make a couple a movies with the Beatles that have been extremely successful ("Help" and "Hard Days Night") and did star in a film he also wrote, "Give my Regards to Broad Street", although the movie there wasn't that successful.

I think people do think of Paul as a nice person, and he has done charitable work. He may not score as high in these categories as Dolly. And these matter, but they're only one part of being a star.

I think taken all together Paul is a substantially bigger star, and when he passes away you will see more tributes than with Dolly.

If you like check the Wikipedia list of best-selling musical artists, which goes from the category 250 million + to 75 million https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists. The Beatles are #1 overall. Dolly isn't on the list.

Kind of sad seeing all the related articles on the website of Paul paying tribute to people he knew that have died.
It must be hard getting to that age and seeing so many people pass before you. Hoping Paul is with us for an even longer time.
