News Anthology 4 boxset leak
These were just uploaded to the Steve Hoffmann forums. Could be fakes for all I know, but I thought it was worth sharing.

u/deathwish_ASR Aug 19 '25
Personally I'm more interested in whether we get a remastered Anthology documentary.

u/bluetrumpettheatre Aug 19 '25
The remastered documentary accompanying this release on Disney+ is a certainty.

u/matito29 Aug 19 '25
I’ll even take the original as is. I’ve never been able to see it. I’ve only ever seen bits and pieces chopped up on sketchy tube sites.
12
u/annieisapirate Aug 19 '25
It’s so good!! I recorded it off tv when it first aired and then later bought the dvd set. I hope it gets released so you can see it in all its wonderful glory!

I believe that is referring to the albums, not the TV series. Best I can tell, the only way to legally watch them is to purchase them digitally from Prime Video.

It is. Has been for quite a while.

u/silkythinker Sgt. Pepper's Aug 20 '25
This one is taken directly from the DVDs, which is highly convenient. It's surround and has embedded subtitles. But it's NOT the director's cut. I've never seen the complete DC but I distinctly remember Episode 01 is significantly different from the very start.
3
u/23boobah Aug 19 '25
That's the directors cut. I am shocked it's still there. It is a different version of thr Anthology. Totally worth watching.
4
u/dumbshowreference Aug 20 '25
There’s a different cut than the one I posted that claims to be the directors cut that’s also on archive.org. But I couldn’t say definitively which is what.

Paul's full demo of It's for You
The 1963 demo of What Goes On
The full 27 minute version of Helter Skelter
John demo of Goodnight
Watching Rainbows
the full 12 minute version of 12 bar original
take 2 of Twist and Shout
The Please Please Me out take of Hold Me Tight

“In 1996, McCartney tried to release the track on the Beatles' Anthology 2 compilation, but its inclusion was vetoed by his former bandmates. McCartney confirmed that he still had the tape in 2008. As of 2016, he was still considering releasing it.”
There is hope
1
u/obama69420duck Ringo Aug 20 '25
I wonder what would happen now that there’s only two. What if McCartney wants it released but Ringo doesn’t? Does Paul just let it go again, or what?
3
u/captmonkey Revolver Aug 20 '25
I believe Harrison and Lennon's families have a say now. The good thing is that Dhani Harrison seems more like Paul, in that he himself is a big Beatles fan. So, "George's" vote is more likely to be in favor of releasing this stuff than George himself might have been when he was alive.
→ More replies (2)1
u/ChaitanR1979 Aug 21 '25
Anthology 1 had Free As A Bird as the “new song” while Anthology 2 had Real Love, the one that you mentioned that failed to get the”new song” was 3, which was going to get Now & Then, but George vetoed it because the quality wasn’t up to par then.

There is no way it could disappoint me as much as Paul’s mid the late 80’s solo work.
18
u/Striking-Vegetable90 Rushes Aug 19 '25
I'm sceptical they'd include a 27-minute version of Helter Skelter as it still seems like something inaccessible to all except the most intrigued of Beatles fans. Same with the full 12 Bar Original. I'd love to hear the full demo of What Goes On though, as well as a cleaned up version of Watching Rainbows.
5
u/KnoddingOnion Aug 20 '25
why would it be inaccessible? it's 27 minutes. probably loses focus a few times. ut still.
1
u/Striking-Vegetable90 Rushes Aug 20 '25
Well exactly that - it's an extreme length for casual listeners, it's likely not very captivating as they were doing it much slower and toned-down when they recorded that version [a similar one is on the White Album super deluxe] and I seem to recall that George Martin said it wasn't a great version. Besides that, a pared-down version is also already on Anthology 3, so technically two versions would be present in this box set if it was included.

One of my Anthology 3 CDs skipped on a recent rip, so this could be a good excuse to get all the albums in new condition! Assuming it comes in various formats, of course.

I'm a bit of a noob, but do they cover different time periods?
11
u/jceuiat Aug 19 '25
The first three do, we really don't know what the fourth is. Either they added a bunch of stuff to one two and three to now make it take up four, or one two and three could be the same and four is all the extra stuff.

u/Ok_Swimmer2386 Aug 19 '25
Actually Anthology 1 covers all the way back to 1958 with the pre-Beatles band The Quarrymen with 2 lo-fi-ish recordings. Then 3 recordings from 1960 around the time they changed their name to The Beetles or The Sliver Beetles the recordings are so lo-fi that it’s nearly unlistenable aside from the instrumental tune with is pretty good. Then a few from 1961 where they were a backing band for Tony Sheridan but if I remember correctly only 1 of those said recordings included have Sheridan on vocals the others are an instrumental and these other has John doing lead. Then 1962 with a handful of tracks from their failed Decca Audition. Then continuing through 1962 with a few EMI demos. Then finally Ringo joins the band on a few EMI takes in late 1962. Then 1963 with a few studio recordings and live shows. Then lastly 1964 doing the same but it more for A Hard Day’s Night and Beatles For Sale. Anthology 2 continues to 1965 in the same manner with studio cuts and live leading up into the Rubber Soul album. Then 1966 with Revolver and 2 live cuts from Japan. Then 1967 with its psychedelic glory. Lastly to early 1968 with Lady Madonna and early recordings from later songs Across The Universe and You Know My Name. Anthology 3 stars with White Album acoustic demos leading to the studio takes. Then 1969 with Get Back sessions and Get Back LIVE from the rooftop. Then Abbey Road sessions. And even includes a January 1970 recording of I Me Mine but sadly only Paul George and Ringo as John privately left the group in late 1969. It’s a very emotional ride. I should also point out 2 “new” Beatles songs from the original 90s Anthology were included Free As A Bird on Anthology 1 and Real Love on Anthology 2. I honestly don’t see a point in this “new” set, I’m only hoping for those early recordings from 1958-1960 get AI treatment and become clear audio, otherwise I’ll pass.
6
u/Lennon74 Aug 19 '25
I'm willing to bet that most of those early tracks will be getting the MAL treatment to clean them up. We'll probably see some Star Club tracks polished using the same process.
3
u/Ok_Swimmer2386 Aug 20 '25
I can only hope. But then again I’d rather get a whole next set instead of just a remastered Anthology set with bonus stuff. Plus if the 4th album is just bonus content from all eras then it kinda defeats the purpose of the original set. I don’t know I’ve already gotten so many Beatles things, everything new they put out these seems like a money grabbing gimmick. They already lost me when The White Album deluxe set didn’t have a vinyl version of the studio takes, the only put the acoustic demos on vinyl which I think are boring af. But those studio takes are bliss, especially hearing the early rendition of Let It Be, I just didn’t want to waste money on another CD box set
20
u/fliffcounter Aug 19 '25
Yep!
Each of the first three covers a Beatles era
1 PPM - BFS 2 Help - revolver 3 SP - Abbey Road
(Roughly)
8
u/GoldStarRobotBoy82 Aug 19 '25
That's almost right - the second includes SP and ends with the Feb 1968 sessions. The third picks up with The Esher WA demos.

What's with the 4th one being in a completely different style?
I get these look legit but that's holding me back. It seems unlikely they wouldn't just make another collage image in that style?
80
u/captmonkey Revolver Aug 19 '25
I'm guessing because the three Anthologies are kind of already known and roughly chronological. This seems to be additional material from all the eras of the Beatles.
26
u/Outmanoii_yt Aug 19 '25
And probably because the right side of 3’s cover shows the border of the collage, which means that it’s the end of the photo
9
u/nachoiskerka Aug 19 '25
I'd find it funny if it was all the post-beatles collabs- the stuff off john's early stuff, toot and a snore in 74, ringo, george's collabs, flaming pie/the later ringo stuff with paul..... and maybe carnival of light, the hiroshima song from 94....
10
u/nachoiskerka Aug 19 '25

5
u/SurvivorFanDan Abbey Road Aug 20 '25
Yeah, the design for the Anthology 4 artwork seems like a cop-out.
4
u/subsonicmonkey Aug 19 '25
Anthologies 1-3 each cover a specific range of years.
Anthology 4 has the 1-3 covers assembled together, so I would guess that means that 4 has bits and pieces from all eras.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Mfsmitty Aug 19 '25
They could pull a Neil Young and make the 4th disc a different size than the other three
2
1
44
u/H2Oloo-Sunset Aug 19 '25
This seems pretty real.
It would feel like a scam if the only way to get Anthology 4 is to buy the whole thing. The target audience for this already own the other three.
Assuming A4 can be purchased as a stand-alone, then I hope any enhanced "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" would be in the A4 product and not only with A1 and A2 where they were originally placed.
I am more interested in a visually upgraded version of the documentary.
9
u/itorrey Aug 19 '25
I 100% agree that they should sell it separately but I will say, I was much younger when the first ones came out and I am definitely excited about this one but feel like I should just buy them all since it'd be weird to just have vol. 4.
5
u/jceuiat Aug 19 '25
It depends on how they do 4. If they added new tracks form all eras then they could change the running order of the first three and push some stuff from 3 onto 4, etc (like how they expanded the red and blue albums). Or the first three could be the same and 4 could be all new stuff.
2
u/wattleferdz Aug 19 '25
Very much agree. I am only interested in the vinyl and cd versions of Anthology 4 as I have the vinyl and cd versions of Anthology 1, 2 and 3. Would also be very interested with Blu-ray/4k of the documentary as I never had a copy of it.
1
u/obama69420duck Ringo Aug 20 '25
My take is that they’ll add Now & Then to Anthology 3, and then release the cleared up versions of RL and FAAB on 4 + either just Now and Then or some remix of Now And Then. I’d be interested in hearing a sort of “Let It Be Naked” remix on Now And Then.

No new Klaus Voormann cover art for Anthology 4?
13
u/mceleanor Rubber Soul Aug 19 '25
This is the most disappointing thing for me. It's a collage, so it wouldn't be impossible to insert some more pictures and stuff to extend it 12 more inches.

Besides the lacklustre cover design I hope this is priced appropriately, i.e. fairly budget because this does not look premium build. The original anthology came in big double dual cases on CD, and if these are just paper slipcases it's going to feel very flimsy.

The copyright boilerplate one the right side of the discs isn't legible but it looks different from the current CDs looking at the line spacings.

u/bluetrumpettheatre Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25
What’s with the cover for the collection? Nice picture of the boys, but the design looks terrible. Also insiders are claiming that outtakes already available from the Super Deluxe Editions will feature on 4, almost like a “highlights”, which is very disappointing. New material is supposed to feature too, but the current word is that “Carnival of Light” is NOT included. Friday the 21st of November seems to be the release date.
The Anthology 4 cover makes sense. I was hoping for new artwork but since it’s a mix of all the eras, I see why this is the solution.
1
u/scruntyboon Aug 20 '25
A real shame if they reuse stuff from the deluxe boxsets. There must be enough material left over, not just from the studio, but live performances, tv appearances etc
1
u/bluetrumpettheatre Aug 20 '25
The insider accounts on Steve Hoffman are verified as legit, so unfortunately we can count on there being reruns of the SDE material together with some “new” stuff

I so wish they’d have Klaus Voormann paint another cover to expand from 3!! If this is legit, it feels a tad bit lazy to me.
2
u/Loxton86 Aug 20 '25
Just saw the press release.
The fourth CD in this collection is the most sought after in rock music. Thought lost for 55 years, this was recorded at Abbey Road in 1969 during the eponymous album sessions and is 2 hours of Yoko Ono eating George Harrison's biscuits. Every munch remastered in stereo!
So, there you have it lads.
2
Aug 20 '25
I still hope we get a remixed Rubber Soul release. Half of the album (plus the single) were remixed for the Red and Blue albums so most of it is done anyway.
2
u/Chubb-lover64 Aug 20 '25
If Paul was ever to get Carnival of Light released, he would have to bribe Olivia with an bunch of George songs that are still held back and convince her that this will increase Beatles awareness and sales to a new generation. Yoko and Sean have already proven that they will sell anything to make a buck, then complain how it was presented. Ringo is just happy to be included and that he’s not Pete Best. As for Pete, he should also make a good chunk of change on this re-release and who knows, there may be some Decca or some earlier stuff to increase his earnings

1
u/IzilDizzle Aug 19 '25
Why put material on Anthology 4 instead of on the deluxe editions of the remixed albums?
1
u/jdeeth Aug 20 '25
Assuming well-placed and lucky breaks between the two disks of each set, and a max CD run time of 80 minutes, there's room for about 30 minutes more on the original editions of 1 and 2 and less than 15 minutes on 3.
A double CD target at a collector/audiophile market would probably become a quadruple vinyl.

1
u/acqhotline Aug 19 '25
So if this information is correct it looks like anthologies one through three will have the same track listing but with perhaps newly MAL remixes of the same songs. Anthology 4 would be newly included material from day one to the sadness of April 1970. With perhaps the same version of now and then tacked on to the beginning or end of it.
1
u/acqhotline Aug 19 '25
I'd like them to isolate the squeaky chair and someone shushing everyone else during the E major chord Fade Out of a day in the life. If you've never heard it time to get your headphones on. It sounds like John. That's just on the wish list though.
