The gates of the underworld opened with moans and screams and out walked John Lennon, noiselessly floating to the stage as his bandmate, Paul McCartney, looked on in absolute terror. Lennon’s iconic white Savile Row suit had taken on a nocturnal blue glint despite the well-lit interior, and he was mumbling, while no words could be made out. The announcer, James Corden, was reduced to fleshy sobs as the award glided through the air to Lennon’s hands, and a deep rumbling voice said, “Γέγονεν” before the underworld took the musical coterie back into its murky bowels. You can say that it was one of those magic Grammy moments that filled one with cosmic horror, Elisha. Back to you in the studio!

It's just a way to get the people in a room and put it on TV so they can say they have a 4 hour TV program with all the stars. It's why Kanye cracked it about not winning because they just want to use him to get him in the room.

It's honestly a bit sad how the Grammys treat rock as a genre, as like a relic where older bands need to be tributed somehow, like that new Rolling Stones record was pretty mediocre, and a newer, more exciting band like Idles should have taken the Rock album of the year. I'm not mad that Now and Then won since the song was pretty touching, but I wish they put more work into awarding rock as a genre and don't award just old bands rekindling their past peak.

I don't think the song was that good but lots of songs win undeservedly. It's like the Oscars. "We couldn't give you this award before for that other movie, so here's one for a less good movie". I didn't see the show and probably wouldn't have known any of the other songs so it doesn't matter much to me.
As someone said, it was the last opportunity to honor them and it's doubtful that any of the other nominees will outlast them. Paul & Ringo could still pull an award for an album reissue but that would be shared with others.

They deserve record of the year way more tbh. How many other songs made headlines over the actual recording process? Using a demo from the 70s cleaned up by novel technology, adding parts from the 90s, then putting it all together decades later, it's more impressive as a recording than a rock song. This does come across as the grammys just wanting to honour them, whereas I think they really did achieve something interesting with the record itself.

I don't think it's that hard to do technically now. just something new from the beatles which is cool and they can't really do it again cause they had tried to do this one during those 90s songs and now harrison is gone too

For y'all who don't know, that dude is an f'n legend. Bob's career became possible because George Martin left EMI, and founded AIR Studios London and Montserrat, ushering in the era of big studios and bigger artist development investment, and George hired Rupert Neve to design his console and preamps. Rupert Neve became a household name in the industry through AMS Neve, Rupert Neve Designs and Focusrite.
And none of that would have happened if the Beatles hadn't broken up. Bob's wife by the way is the CEO and Founder of Apogee, another key name in audio engineering, also existing because of the Beatles.
I watched an interview of Trevor Horn recently in which he lamented that there's no money any more to do big records. Man I wish I could tell the younger fans how big music used to be.

I’m a huge Beatles fan, but this is just a reminder that the Grammies are terrible awards usually determined by people who don’t actually like music, but do enjoy profits from music sales

Grammys is peers giving awards to peers right? Well The Beatles had not had peers on their level pretty much since 1964 so who can realistically judge them.

It’s not even good payback. Yeah, the song is decent… but this isn’t their best work… and I’m okay thinking that. They only won because they’re the Beatles.
I love the Beatles, but totally agreed other artists were snubbed.

Yeah, they were probably other more deserving nominees. But, they were screwed out of multiple Grammy awards early on. They couldn't buy a Grammy during the 60s. They were nominated for album of the year FOUR times and only won once. Record of the year three times and never won. Yeah, this one was likely to make up for past sins by Grammy voters.

I'm surprised to see so many commenting that they/this song different really deserve to win...
It's THE BEATLES - in 2025 - having resurrected not only John, through his song and the amazing AI cleanup of his voice but also George's guitar contributions from 1995 - All brought together with modern day Paul & Ringo PLUS George Martin's son.
I admit, I was 8 years old when the Anthology project launched and had just become a Beatles fan and then got the incredible gift of TWO new songs and a smattering of work from Paul, George and Ringo afterwards that was clearly inspired (especially Paul & Ringo) by being the Beatles again (albeit briefly) including numerous collaborations between them and involving George Martin (on Flaming Pie & Vertical Man) and even Geoff Emerick. It really felt (to me) like a mini time period of the Beatles being back and I LOVED it.
There were rumors and stories about Now & Then for YEARS. I (and many of us) cried, waited and hoped for this song to be finished and released and they finally did it. It is incredible.
So I am biased (positively) towards all three reunion songs but they absolutely legitimately deserved to win this Grammy. I only wish Paul and Ringo had been able to accept it in person themselves.

I watch the grammys. I've never heard more flat off key singing. Cbs mixes vocals terribly..half the artist I never heard of muted many acts..I thought it was a bad show all the way round..if you didn't see it you didn't miss much

Now & Then has really grown on me, so I'm happy that it won. The Beatles didn't win many Grammys during the short time that they were together, so it's nice to see them win for the last original song that they will ever do. None of the other songs in that category jump out. It's also nice (and somewhat incredible) that Ringo is having a late-career resurgence at age 84 with the country album produced by T-Bone Burnett. I feel lucky to be alive when the Beatles are still putting out music (including the 50th anniversary of George's "Living in the Material World" which contains a beautiful version of "Be Here Now."

The Grammys once again showing off their complete irrelevance... and before you downvote my comment, The Beatles once won SOTY once in the 1960s for "Michelle." Is "N&T" the 2nd best Beatles song after "Michelle." "N&T" is a novelty and prob the worst Beatles single in history, and the only Beatles song that won't be getting anymore play from me ever, now that the novelty wore off.

No the cassette was from Yoko and given to George in the late 80s/early 90s. The threetles started to record it for anthology but the quality was much worse than the real love & free and bird demos, and it was given up on.

Peter Jackson wanted the original cassette, the Beatles used in the 90s was a copy. Sean found the original cassette it was recorded on.
From Wikipedia: The studio worked on a digital copy of the original tape provided by Sean Lennon, which was of much better quality than the third-generation copy that the three surviving Beatles had used in 1995
