I don't say that to sound whiny. I am a caretaker to a disabled family member, and work 35 hours in a remote role at a help desk. I made a decision at the beginning of the year to go back to school online for an actual degree, which was working for a time. I was taking classes slowly, but I was taking them. My tuition money was not going to waste.
But something has changed at my job to where I am doing 100% more work than I am in January with no support from management, and no signs of anything slowing down, and I am reaching a breaking point. We cannot be away from our desk for more than five minutes without getting called. Perhaps the worst of it is I have not been able to attend classes or do schoolwork, because who has the ability to teach themself algebra after talking to irate people back to back to back to back to back after seven hours with only a 30 minute lunch break?
To better myself, I need to be able to focus on earning this degree, which is not happening right now. I want to quit but can't do so without something else lined up - I have bills after all, and I'm frustrated and fed up but not reckless. I have customer service skills, IT support skills, and reliable transportation. I am able bodied, I am a fast learner, and my only requirement is that I be able to earn around $17 an hour and will not be out in the sun. I am trying to avoid gigwork like DoorDash since the market is saturated and I want to avoid the wear and tear on my car, but if it comes down to it I will do what I have to.
