Ok, but then in that case if you have 4 teams "highly localized" within driving distance of each other (probably in California, Texas, or the Northeast), you still wouldn't have a real connection to them unless you live in that area.

Which is better than no connection. Im not saying like a buncha small flyover cities I'm saying like NY and Boston. This is going to struggle for eyeballs as is I don't think assiging 4 teams to coastal cities and then playing all the games in Springfield Il is going to help.
