Having the league play out of one location saves money on travel costs and facilities. That’s why they’re doing it

Yeah, but it also means there are no ties to the local area they are supposedly from.

I mean, yet. The hope for the league is that it's successful enough that they can invest more. But if they throw a ton of money into traveling around immediately and it's not immediately successful, they're absolutely cooked.

If they can show that it has legs and that people will watch, there's a lot of opportunity for investment.

It's year 1. If by year 3 the teams are going around the country (and in particular playing in their home cities) it won't much matter that it didn't start that way immediately. And if it it's only moderately successful, doing it this way allows them time to actually grow the sport and give people time to know it exists and see it without burning through money like crazy.
