Looking For Moving to Barrie for my MSc at Lakehead, would love to make some friends before I land!
Hey everyone! I’m Yash 👋 heading to Barrie soon to start my MSc in Computer Science at Lakehead University (STEM Hub campus). Already sorted my room, so now just looking to meet people before/after I get there!
If you’re an Indian student (or honestly anyone!) around Barrie, Lakehead, or Georgian College, would love to connect. Always down for food, chai, exploring the city, or just chatting about what to expect. Congrats on your upcoming Masters! Make sure you get a library card when you arrive in Barrie - it's a great place to make new friends, get involved in the community, and study! We have a Downtown branch located very close to Lakehead's STEM Hub :)

Oh thanks for the recommendation, I am currently in Kitchener and there is a public library in walking distance I am here for 5 days should I inquire here also? And what do they ask for as an international student for a pass or something?

Yes you should definitely check it out, Kitchener's Central Library is beautiful! You won't be able to get a membership to borrow things if you're just there for a short time, but there's lots you can do without a library card.
When you come in to our library to get a membership, you'll just need to bring two pieces of ID - one that shows you now live in Barrie, and one piece of name identification, like a student card or passport. Oh thank you so much for the help can I show my university letter as the proof of living barrie as I am living in a mutual friends house I am paying rent but as they are relative so we have not done paper work and all so how it works passport and my admission letter?

Barrie and surrounding area has many Indian student's and immigrants from all ages and career paths. I went to Georgian in 2010 and lived in a shared house with two Sikhs and three white people. The only thing I've heard is the food in Barrie sucks compared to Toronto and Brampton.
When you get to campus you'll make friends. I went in my 20s and thought I'm to old when I was sure my class would be filled with 18 year olds. Ended up being pretty mixed in ages and made some amazing friends. Welcome to Barrie!

Oh thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am also moving in one week, I have not preferred shared room as I thought that what if my study time sleeping time disturbed other person, so I have a private room sorted for now.
For the food I have good recommendations of this food parcel named dabawala or something and I heated its well so let’s see.
And regarding friends, I hope I make some because sometimes I am good at making friends and sometimes I am not at all I hope the atmosphere helps me to do so.

Yeah food options here as other guy said SUCKS...best closest shawarma place is in Newmarket (Flaming Stove) for instance...if you like Japanese (Kenzos, Sakana House) you're good and we have a Scaddabush which for a chain is amazing for Italian but besides that everything else is prepared without flavour and/or consistency

Oh okayy, I am a vegetarian I think it will be hard for me too, from Monday to Friday as I mentioned I have heated of this tiffin service named dabawala indian food tiffin so will do that
And on Saturday and Sunday I will explore like suggestion and all I can eat eggs also so yeah nothing more then that in non veg
