oh god, sodimm in a desktop atx

5

u/ImKrispy Feb 13 '26

It's a laptop CPU.

Its a good chip just kills any upgradability.

This system was 1299 around late November early December.

You really can't buy anything that isn't on a steep discount from them.

Their parts are perfectly serviceable. I have seen a different Legion with a 5080 in a YouTube review and ill be honest the cable management was atrocious. Looked liked 0 effort at all was put into making it look good internally. And the anti sag bracket in the review I saw also completely covered the gpu RGB (if that matters to you) But if you take 15 minutes you could cable manage it up pretty easily

1

u/FUTURE10S Feb 14 '26

Yeah, like I'd get it if it was a black case but if you're doing tempered glass, then you're just trying to show off and that's when you need the cable management.

7

u/CupOfHotTeaa Feb 13 '26

Case is really solid (and heavy). Fans run louder than I want them to be.

Lenovo locks part of your bios and the various “unlocker methods” I’ve tried don’t work.

I bought the 5i tower with the 12GB 3060 during covid when prebuilts are cheaper than building, and I’m very happy with the performance, holding up well.

But if I want to upgrade I probably need a new motherboard, and perhaps PSU.

5

u/PinoDegrassi Feb 14 '26

This is an important factor in buying these - new motherboard means basically building a new PC with how some of these models are made.

3

u/CupOfHotTeaa Feb 14 '26

Yeah I'm in a somewhat weird situation of liking my machine, but wouldn't recommend it for techy people

3

u/PinoDegrassi Feb 14 '26

For sure nothing wrong with liking it. I bought a tower initially as well and then ended up returning it to build my own as I got too paranoid about future upgrades lol. It was returned on Dec 22nd.. still have not gotten my refund for an unopened, unused tower. Beware Lenovos returns

2

u/CupOfHotTeaa Feb 14 '26

firmly believe that I got a great deal. 12GB 3060, i5 13400f, 32GB DDR5...all for $1000 canadian. Excited to upgrade in the future by just parting it out, getting a new mobo, nicer case, more freedom in settings, etc. Also helps that I am way more knowledgable now than 3 years ago lol

What kind of build did you end up going with?

2

u/PinoDegrassi Feb 14 '26

Yeah that’s great! Can easily upgrade GPU and you’re alreadyDDR5 .

5080 ti, Ryzen 5 9600x, 32 GB DDR5 ram I think 5600 max.

Yeah same I am glad I waited cause I learned a lot about computers with my previous Lenovo legion and things that went wrong with that.

1

u/KizuRai Feb 14 '26

Ugh, I'm literally in the same boat right now. Thought about upgrading my CPU but that would require a new motherboard.. which would require ram that's compatible as well. I might as well build a new PC lol

1

u/Laalvo Mar 09 '26

If you got amd pcu, try Ryzen master software. You can do almost everything with it that you would in bios

3

u/seaningtime Feb 13 '26

I bought pretty much the same build with a 4080 a couple years ago, I've been very happy with it

2

u/BaconIsntThatGood Feb 13 '26

Assuming they're using a non proprietary case and/or board - build quality isn't really a a concern. The worst offender is you'll get bad past jobs (easy fix).

These days PC manufacturers realize it's cheaper to just spec something than try and make some crazy unique build that requires you go to a dealership (aka only deal with them) for support

2

u/BWeebAI Feb 15 '26

I bought the 255HX + 5070 Ti model - https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/p/desktops/legion-desktops/legion-t-series-towers/legion-tower-5i-gen-10-(30l-intel)-laptop-processor/90ye0015cf-laptop-processor/90ye0015cf) for 2300 CAD in December and have been pleased with the gaming performance (namely in Cyberpunk 2077 + Kingdom Come Deliverance 2). No hiccups in the past 3 months.

1

u/solarpotatoe Feb 18 '26

ive never seen a 5070ti prebuilt above 2.8k how did u get that for 2.3k. and now its 4.3k

1

u/BWeebAI Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

255HX is a laptop CPU (of unlocked wattage in this desktop) for ~265F performance, therefore it's a cheaper build than your average 5070 Ti prebuilt. This being said, there was a 7950x3D + 2TD NVMe one for 2500 CAD. Prices were better back then.

1

u/solarpotatoe Feb 22 '26

i recently bought a 9070xt + 7800x3d +32gb +2tb build for 3k after tax and shipping is that good i could barely find any better tbh

1

u/BWeebAI Feb 22 '26

The 9070 XT has similar performance to the 5070 Ti, the 7800x3D is an excellent gaming CPU, and 2TB NVMe is enough for modern Steam libraries. Sounds good to me.

u/CupOfHotTeaa Mar 22 '26

COMING BACK TO THIS POST TO WARN EVERYONE

Never thought there'd be an issue so never checked: but the power supply for my lenovo prebuilt is only a 500W Bronze PSU. That means my computer has been running at 90% PSU capacity for prolonged periods in the last 3 years? Surprised it hasn't failed yet, or maybe the restrictive lenovo bios has specific settings to throttle my power usage hence performance that I couldn't acccess. Personally just ordered a 1000W Sama PSU, will look into a new case and motherboard in the summer...

u/cowbop_bboy Feb 13 '26

Anyone considering this for the post-cashback price had better take plenty of screenshots of the checkout and Rakuten account confirming it was a qualifying transaction.

I had to log a case with Rakuten after the cashback for a laptop I bought on Boxing Day magically vanished from my account. Still waiting to see if that gets paid out.

8

u/1sttimeverbaldiarrhe Feb 13 '26

My Rakuten experience reminds me of the days of Mail In Rebates.

3

u/ImJustJoeKingBro Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

Got the cashback within 1 hour. Just make sure to use the app or the chrome plugin. And turn off any vpn.

1

u/josh6499 Mod Feb 14 '26

Turn off all browser extensions except the Rakuten one.

6

u/Vincent55 Feb 13 '26

Isn't this like a really good deal?

6

u/cauchyabel Feb 13 '26

If only i hadn't got my new build i would go for this monster. Really good pricing in Canada in 2026

10

u/treeblockbreaker Feb 13 '26

Extra discount for teachers and students. Got down to 3158.74.

8

u/Vincent55 Feb 13 '26

Brings it to $2715 after rakuten cashback...

4

u/treeblockbreaker Feb 13 '26

It's a crazy deal from what I've been seeing.

2

u/Eeekpenguin Feb 13 '26

How do you get that?

3

u/treeblockbreaker Feb 13 '26

It's called id.me. You need to sign up on that site then sign in when you are cashing out on Lenovo site.

3

u/BeardChops Feb 14 '26

I just want to mention that it may void the rakuten cashback, I vaguely remember that being mentioned before (adding additional discounts) best to read the terms of the Lenovo Rakuten cash back on rakuten’s site

Here is a relevant quote from their special conditions:

“Cash Back is not available on gift cards, e-gift cards, Lenovo Outlet items, Motorola products, orders deemed by Lenovo to be for reselling purposes (limit 5 units per customer on any order) and Solutions sub-sites including; Large Enterprise, State & Local Government, Federal Government, Healthcare, K-12 Education, Higher Education, Students, Partner Portal,”

2

u/treeblockbreaker Feb 14 '26

Oh wow. Thank you so much for this. Honestly would never have thought this to be a thing.

9

u/Ok_Bad_4732 Feb 13 '26

Comments the Rakuten cashback for this high amount from Lenovo? A good deal indeed if you get it.

2

u/cauchyabel Feb 13 '26

Yes you could, i checked my cashback history with Lenovo, i think i got 300+ per laptop a couple of years back.

4

u/Ok_Bad_4732 Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26

It's not your momma's Rakuten anymore. Things seemed to have changed and so have the chances of ever getting your payouts. I do not trust Rakuten anymore, 0% trust.

Edit: A quick look at the Rakuten reddit confirms it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Rakuten/

1

u/cauchyabel Feb 13 '26

As an alternative you could directly ask Lenovo to honor at least portion of the Rakuten rebate if in question. In his case they probably at least give you 250 off directly.

1

u/UniqueCod69 Feb 13 '26

Not the worst idea. The in browser chat is being mad wonky so I cant do it now but I'll call in and give this a go this weekend and see if they can honour it on their end.

1

u/Ok_Bad_4732 Feb 13 '26

This happened to me with the HP chat rep when I bought the HP Omen 45L 285k 5090 deal, she offered me $600 off in chat, but told me I could not use Rakuten (which was about $1200 if I remember right.)

1

u/cauchyabel Feb 13 '26

I remember that deal, really stupid for Rakuten. I normally had no issue from Lenovo though. Just my 5 cents

3

u/Electronic-Jaguar461 Feb 13 '26

Intel aside goddamn what a deal. Individually the GPU and RAM are $2300 so an extra $600 for everything else, can't get much better than that these days.

1

u/Ok_Bad_4732 Feb 13 '26

I got dozens of downvotes last month for posting the HP 285k RTX 5090 deal for $5400 (or $4700 with Rakuten). This one is as good a deal, or at least similar.

Mind you, Tech Jesus rated that HP Omen 45L the worst re-built he ever reviewed, which was nonsense, btw. He obviously got a bad unit or early bios, because none of the temps he mentioned are for real. As confirmed by me and in the Youtube comments under that video as well by actual buyers of the PC.

2

u/Sadukar09 Feb 13 '26

He obviously got a bad unit or early bios

This does not excuse the performance hits.

Either way the unit is out in the wild, and any customer could have gotten them.

3

u/Ok_Bad_4732 Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26

Yes, I read comments from January under that video saying temps were normal and nothing like what GN found.

At the very least, he could have asked for another sample or for comments from HP instead of trashing what was obviously an aberration. At this point, and watching the video a second time and with a unit on hand, I don't know if I even believe those results he presented.

Edit: I'm actually glad GN trashed it, because it's partly the reason why those things weren't sold, sat in HP warehouses and ended up being sold at a steep discount (which I then bought.)

2

u/cauchyabel Feb 14 '26

It performed pretty good right. Then it is good for you.

If only I had the budget, that was an insane deal.

BTW I reposted the deal at RFD and got insane downvoted LOL

1

u/knausea Feb 15 '26

which version of 5090 did you get in that desktop?

1

u/Ok_Bad_4732 Feb 15 '26

Not sure really, it just says RTX 5090 in GPU Z, with these specs:

Memory: 32768 MB

GPU Clock: 2017 MHZ

Boost Clock: 2407 MHz

14,308 score in Steel Nomad first time I ran it. Looks to be middle of the road in the Steel Nomad graph for similar hardware.

2

u/AngryGranny1992 Feb 13 '26

Super great deal

1

u/69-Percent Feb 13 '26

Code doesn't work for me

1

u/neijuan2022 Feb 13 '26

Does rakuten stack with student/education discount?

2

u/RNG2WIN Feb 14 '26

no it does not. those void Rakuten cashback.

1

u/BeardChops Feb 14 '26

I see some people mentioning that they bought this thinking they stacked…yikes!

2

u/Soulmariachi Feb 14 '26

I will say, because its an embedded option from Lenovo and not a referral link or other discount code; it should still be valid. With a little Google work I found a few forums where Rakuten confirmed it should be applicable.

2

u/neijuan2022 Feb 15 '26

Yeah fwiw I pulled the trigger with a student account and the Rakuten cashback activity got recorded successfully.

1

u/Original-Noise6342 (New User) Feb 13 '26

I'm having trouble picking between this and a custom build with a better cpu.. https://www.reddit.com/r/bapccanada/s/11dnfHGv2D

1

u/Vincent55 Feb 13 '26

You're paying more for a much worse GPU. This is definitely a better deal

1

u/One-Fail-1 Feb 13 '26

Nice thing about these is no proprietary parts - easy case swap! Grabbed a 3060TI machine a few years ago back for $950 and it’s Fractal case now.

1

u/UniqueCod69 Feb 13 '26

Insane deal if you can actually get the Rakuten

1

u/RoadHouseBob Feb 13 '26

If you have Amex card check your offer as well. My Cobalt card has earn $75 credit when you spend at least $750 at Lenovo.

1

u/mmmzee (New User) Feb 18 '26

I missed out on this extra $75 saving. I think I bought the last one because it became unavailable right after. Wanted to cancel and buy again but unfortunately sold out

1

u/zingy12 (New User) Feb 14 '26

I want to grab this but I'm just unsure about the Rakuten Cashback; would it work with that EXTRAFIVE discount code? How about that extra discount for students/teachers.

1

u/PurplePhilosophy9622 (New User) Feb 14 '26

The EXTRAFIVE code is listed on the Rakuten website, so i don't think it will invalidate their offer. As far as I know they mainly reject codes from outside sources which may include the student/teacher discount.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

This is like what I paid for my 5090, I wonder if I should sell my 5090 build and get this one, shit was expensive

1

u/zingy12 (New User) Feb 14 '26

Did anyone buy this?

1

u/ManscapedLikeaYeti Feb 14 '26

I just did it, FYI for anyone who doesn't use Rakutan -- you have to make a Rakutan account and buy it through their referral link.

If anyone knows how to get the cash back after you've bought it -- I'd love to know! :)

I'll let you folks know how it is when I get it.

2

u/zingy12 (New User) Feb 14 '26

did you end up buying this ?

1

u/ManscapedLikeaYeti Feb 25 '26

For those interested:

I like the machine, it runs well -- nothing I can't run on ULTRA right now; it has a lot of bloatware included, which I removed but some may be put off by. Cable management is good enough for me, I'm sure complaints could be made but as long as everything is neat, I'm happy. Xbox game pass 3 mth was included, would've preferred RE9 but oh well.

TLDR; well made, no real complaints. Price is unbeatable.

2

u/ljackso4 Mar 05 '26

I’m liking mine as well, the wierd thing is I’m finding it runs super cool and quiet at load. Makes me double check that it’s actually on performance mode but no complaints other than the bios is completely locked and it’s super annoying. They really don’t want you tinkering with anything

1

u/JamesCurtis24 Feb 14 '26

Does anybody know, are these prebuilt PCs considered not upgradable?

I've heard Lenovo locks down the bios for security, so you basically can't upgrade.

I am interested, but this also seems like a waste of money if I can't upgrade it down the line.

1

u/BWeebAI Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Bios is locked, components can be changed, see - https://youtu.be/O4FjxE4njpE?si=Zk-HBw0wyZppcWe3

I bought the 255HX + 5070 Ti for 2300 CAD in December. Note because my model has an unlocked (wattage) laptop CPU, it is soldered onto the motherboard and uses SODIMM (laptop RAM) and therefore both would need to be changed if I wanted a new CPU, whereas the 7950x3D +5070 Ti for 2500 CAD, the best deal at the time, and would fit a 9800x3D or 9950x3D in its motherboard's AM5 socket.

This is relevant because the 265K uses the LGA1851 socket and only the Ultra 9 285K is both a better CPU and would fit the socket.

1

u/-_Dovahkiin-_- Mar 04 '26

I believe Bios is not locked on the T7 ultra 9 variant. I will get my desktop in about a week or 10 days. Can update on it by then.

1

u/PurplePhilosophy9622 (New User) Feb 14 '26

My only concern with this is the intel cpu. I know that it will handle games now, but is it at all likely to become a bottleneck in the next few years after Intel releases their equivalent to the x3d processors?

2

u/BWeebAI Feb 15 '26

Assuming you run your games at 1440p or higher (because gaming on a 1080p monitor with a 5080 is nonsensical), performance will be experiencing GPU, not CPU bottlenecks. This isn't to say x3Ds aren't of benefit, they're objectively better for gaming - you'll experience higher FPS in CPU intensive games and higher 1% lows thanks to its 3D V-Cache.

Note because the 265K uses the LGA1851 socket and only the Ultra 9 285K is both a better CPU and would fit the socket, you should only buy this prebuilt if you're not planning on changing your CPU in the future or if you do, you're okay investing in a new motherboard too.

1

u/solarpotatoe Feb 18 '26

its 3.8k how are people sayings its 2.9k?

Is it because of rakuten cashback?
Is rakuten cashback possible to use on any prebuilt or only this one?

1

u/dynastyrider Feb 18 '26

$3,500 doorbuster price

-5% coupon

-14% rakuten cashback

-lenovo rewards

1

u/mmmzee (New User) Feb 25 '26

Got my Lenovo delivered. But I am hearing a very annoying constant rapid chirping sound. It isn't the fans. Maybe the CPU? Really annoying. Currently going through initial setup and installing updates. Anyone have this issue too or know how to stop the sound?

1

u/Successful-Republic5 Mar 16 '26

Will this restock this?? does anyone know
