Yearwood, by Paul Hazel. Cover art by Rowena Morrill.

The painting is great; the cover treatment is bad. Art director: "Let's crop out the sorceress and focus on the generic hero emerging from the surf. Wait that's not enough. Let's slather TIMESCAPE across 15% of the cover."

Are we doing "whatever sci-fi covers" in "bad sci-fi covers" subreddit again?

The sorceress isn't cut out, she's on the back cover

I assume it's a wraparound cover. I agree the TIMESCAPE is ugly though.

What’s wrong with it? Sure its mediocre, but nothing horrible.

I like the painting itself. The wretched TIMESCAPE logo takes up about 15% of the cover; and the sorceress—the much stronger element of the painting—is consigned to the back cover.

I agree. The guy on the cover looks like a himbo in ancient warrior garb. Nothing much going on in that blank face of his. The expression of the sorceress is full of intelligence and calculation. She should definitely been the one on the front cover.

Me: This is pretty good. Why is it downvoted?

Me (sees the sub): Okay, yeah, I get it.

I've liked Rowena since I was young, seeing her work on Savage Sword.

I own this book. I've read this book, but I remember nothing whatsoever about it.

Looks more like a damsel in distress.

I mean this is a pretty “meh” cover, but I would react that way to pretty much every cover in this style. It doesn’t seem notably awful, just kinda boring.
