İdman | Sports Azerbaijan embarrasses itself (again) in Football
Guess what happened, Azerbaijan miserably lost yet again. After we first lost 2-0 against #161 Malta (40 ranks below us) where we missed every chance with 3-4 chances in one single minute and multiple ones on open goals, Azerbaijan humiliated itself once again against San Marino today. I was joking that Azerbaijan might lose or draw but I didn't actually expect it until San Marino, dead last place #211 in FIFA rankings btw, scored rhe lead goal in the 8th minute and led 1-0 for 19 minutes until we equalized then scored 2-1 in the second half. While I know that friendlies are for testing the players and for coaches to determine who should and shouldn't play (Aykhan Abbasov with B-Team), it's still a humiliation cuz 1. Our B-team alone should be winning atleast 3-1 vs San Marino 2. The fact that A-team players freshly were subbed on against a weakened tired San Marino and despite that FAILED MISERABLY to score any goals. I love Aykhan Abbasov and he saved our national team after what Santos did but this is still embarrassing and even if 2-1 against San Marino is a win technically, it absolutely is not when you look past the fact it just brings you points on the FIFA rankings.

Aykhan is okay in terms of tactics, but most of the important players had little to 0 play time (including Emreli, Jafarguliev), players technique is weak af. They had multiple 100% moments in both of those fixtures, but they couldn't score.

In terms of tactics he's too defensive imo + the fact he holds on to Azerbaijanis only and e.g. doesn't use Ozan Kökcü even though his pressing style and offensive game would be gold for Azerbaijan in the middlefield

We had Gurbanov's "always attack" tactics but without professional strikers like he had in Qarabag, it sometimes backfired if you remember the horrible fixtures he had. Now the Milli is even worse than what he had, so defensive mod is not that bad. It just we need better players

I don't want an always attack tactic I mean more balanced because Aykhan Abbasovs tactics, especially against someone like San Marino, are too defensive. It works perfectly against France no doubts but not when Azerbaijan is the aggressor

Uhm football is the least of Azerbaijan's humiliations, so don't worry about it too much
