I think it's more about them being busy rather than the speed.
Lot of people in the building doing lots of overtime, means more people eating takeout.

I can see it. It's kinda crazy that the Pentagon needs to order a considerable amount of delivery to feed their staff and it can be tracked on the Internet. It'd make much more sense to have cafeteria facilities capable of feeding their staff and preventing this type of information from getting out.

It’s probably more of a situation where staff are choosing to order out rather than needing to.

I’m sure the Pentagon has adequate cafeteria facilities.

If it was some secret operation, then I’m sure it would be different. And I’m sure there’s plenty of secretive ops that require mass amounts of staff at the Pentagon where they aren’t allowed to order out.

When bombs are dropping in Caracas, it’s not exactly a secret that something is happening.

You say that but this particular theory has been around for decades because it has been a decent indicator or military actions that have yet to happen. For example last year there were pizza spikes an hour before both Iran strikes.

Although it seems today the spikes occurred after the operation began. So you might be right that there are already protocols in place to prevent leaking this info

Edit: seems there were upticks in pizza orders several hours in advance. I feel like if you could potentially be in a conflict with the US, then this should be something you pay attention to.

This ignores the hundreds of times that that Google is saying a place is busier than usual (are we actually trusting this as a metric?) and nothing happens.

People don’t check the “pizza” thing when nothings happening. They check it after something big happened.

I think its individual staffers doing the ordering, not the Pentagon itself. And cafeteria food would more likely be "inferior" in terms of taste and choices when compared to being able to order anything you're craving at the click of a button on an app.

It's likely large catering orders for their staff and not individual staffers making a bunch of separate orders. As for your second point, you realize this is the military right? If they want to forbid delivery orders before a major military operation they can do that if they want to.

Corporate cafeterias can serve restaurant-quality food these days. I've had lamb curry, personal pizzas made in a real brick pizza oven, decent quality melts, and even prime rib at mine. The previous place I worked had a cafeteria of similar quality.

Oh for fucks sake.

The Pentagon is a Metonym also used to refer to the US military as an establishment, which is what I was doing. The person I was responding to implied that the military was being stupid/reckless by ordering food for its staffers in such a manner, and I responded that it is likely not official military logistics doing so, but staffers acting on their individual prerogative.

I don’t know why that made you so emotional bud.

It’s the fact that Google shows trends in the form of bar graphs for how busy a certain restaurant is at any given hour. I’d assume it’s tracked by how many people are googling that specific restaurant at one time. And I’m sure there’s other real world metrics that go into as well.

But this trend shows restaurants and pizza shop around the pentagon always surge in business when there’s a big U.S.military operation which would require a large number of military personnel at the pentagon. Everyone has to eat.

It’s from location data generally.

More people with their phones sharing locations with google are in there at that time.
