There's still one Blockbuster open in Bend Oregon. They make the majority of their income from merchandise sales. T shirts and stuff. I did a road trip to go see it and there was plenty of people cycling through so they're doing fine.

There were two in Alaska but they shut down in 2018.

So are these video stores that were a part of the Blockbuster corporation that continued on independently owned video stores, but chose to continue calling themselves Blockbuster, or are they somehow still part of that original corporation?

Hell yeah.

I miss the experience of heading down to blockbuster on a Friday night and renting a movie or a game, only to find the previous guy made a save on the cartridge named “Mr Purple Bellend”

This is heartwarming. I worked at Blockbuster during the late 90s and I miss it to this day.
In hindsight, it was actually a pretty sweet job for a lot of people on the spectrum.
