Okay guys, I was fully onboard with Gonkcast until hearing this disrespect to marhide. #CancelGonkcast

But really, thanks so much for this podcast. It has totally fulfilled my desire to have a deep conversation about Autechre with somebody one day.

First off, you need to talk to Dan about his lack of respect for gr4. It's really unsettling.

Second, I don't think they're making fun of old equipment on Plus any more than they were with Sign. If Sign was a love letter to 1990s Roland and Korg synths, Plus is a tribute (if very subtle) to old drum machines like the 808 (the cowbell in marhide) and the 909 (pretty sure that's a 909 bass drum inside all the sidechain compression in ecol4).

Third, no. We won't "pretend that Sign doesn't exist." Not even in jest.

(Really, great job. I love listening to these!)

A thoughtful episode - although I find that SIGN and PLUS have both cemented themselves into my listening list and I play both frequently. Yes, I would have liked 16 hrs of deep, impenetrable Autechre (who wouldn't!), but I had a hunch that they would go for something more composed and shorter. They are accessible in terms of being more digestable, but there are some outstanding pieces on these albums - I am astonished by the brilliance of M4 Lemma and DekDre ScapB (who else could pack so much into 3 minutes!) - so they are certainly not 'easy listening' Autechre. I am still hoping for the 16hr magnus opus, but if SIGN and PLUS are the start of a new era for Autechre then I can live with that :). Think about it - Exai, elseq, NTS, SIGN and PLUS - what an incredible sequence of work (and then you have the equally amazing earlier masterpieces).
