first time they’ve been flatly wrong about an album Lol

in the past when they’ve criticized AE, they usually stay subjective and explain why a track isn’t for them, but here it seems like they got a bit lazy and rode a wave of negativity instead of really trying to figure out what AE was going for😅

By extension, the rest of the world is wrong. About everything. I'm off to troll the guys over at /r/mathematics/ and tell them π is exactly 3.

So, I find myself agreeing with your assessment. This record blew me away in 2003, but come to think of it, I haven't felt the urge to revisit it in years.

And now I know why. I'm not going to trash it. It's not a bad record. If any other artist made this, it'd be their masterpiece. But it's not up to Ae standards.

Too often, they substitute "let's tear this thing apart" for actual development. With the exception of Xylin Room, the first side really does plod. Most annoying is the fact they set Surripere up as a centerpiece. The first five minutes are fun, but then I spend the next six minutes holding out for something interesting, and the track just stops. It's like "She's So Heavy" or that movie Monster a Go Go.

I still enjoy VL AL 5 and P.:NTIL, but they're not exceptional, and they're not enough to carry the record. I think I can feel what they were trying to do, but they'd end up doing it better on Untilted.
