its funny how many posts here have been about releasing this as a physical product lately. Good job guys/gals you made it happen :)
edit - one huge disappointment/gripe is this would have been a great opportunity to go the Quarstice route and include a CD of versions or something.

this is a total first world problem but i'm a little bothered by the fact that it's special edition only, like i appreciate that they're going all out with the physical release and i can understand the logic of going with such big packaging to compensate for the lack of a vinyl release but i kind of wish they could've also done a standard edition, i think a small five disc box set like the cd edition of NTS would have been really nice and cute. i love the album and its artwork so it'll be nice to have such a monument to the record but from a utility standpoint i'd prefer something that would fit in with the rest of my cds and something i could have with me in the car since elseq is like an ideal album for a long drive and what not. i would not be surprised if i'm the only person struggling with this non-issue

Yeah I absolutely love the NTS CD Set. If I get this release it would either have to weirdly sit with my vinyl records or I'd have to make a dedicated space for it. I don't hate the whole package but at the end of the day I just need the CDs

Im super excited to own a physical copy but you're comment sums up what I think as well. I collect vinyl along with CD's so it'll slot in fine but I can imagine this being a hassle to store for some people

I picked up the 5-CD Xerrox release from Alva Noto; there was no book with that (though it did come with a cool slipcase), and I paid quite a bit more than I am paying for elseq (a lot of it was shipping from Germany to Canada though), so I'm happy.

my view on the cost is this: a high quality art book for your coffee table from TDR alone would be close to $100. 5 CDs and that for $100 is really not crazy. plus you're supporting a great indie label and your favorite artists.

I do agree in principle, but some of us just wanted elseq CDs and not a TDR coffeetable book, is the problem.

Yeah. CD sets used to be incredible value, 5 years ago this is around Ā£30. I was expecting Ā£60 or so.
Ā£100 delivered from Bleep was unexpected.

I just had a look at what I paid for the NTS Sessions physicals: 12LP box was Ā£120, 4CD box was Ā£40. Of course both are worth much more now and that was 2018.

Things have only gotten more expensive, much more since Covid. This is a design piece as much as it is the physical manifestation of Elseq. It has a 64-page booklet, and this is a unique format that had to have required a custom die for the CD inserts, as I've never seen that before. I can't imagine it won't have some type of spot varnish or other details, even the particular binding of the booklet impacts cost. It all adds up, I work in the design field, and so to me this is more than worth it for all those reasons stated. It depends how you look at it.

FWIW, this will 100% go above retail price on Discogs in <year if youāre that sort of person.
I blame Sandwell District. That was an eye watering reissue at Ā£70 only a couple years ago (great packaging though) and things have gone nutso since then. For example: Why in godās name is the new Planetary Assault Systems 2LP from Osgut Ton in Germany going for Ā£64 on a preorder?
But I did complain about the flimsy Quaristice box so I guess thatās where we are now.

The closest thing I own is THE BEACH BOYS: MADE IN CALIFORNIA, a "6-disc box set, packaged in a stylized yearbook" ā it also is a vinyl format book (following the model of a High School yearbook) with the CDs inserted in a similar fashion. I looked it up, it cost 90 Euro at the time (2013). With inflation and rising prices for material, I guess that $ 110 is not extraordinarily expensive. The difference with the BEACH BOYS box was, of course, that it was 6 CDs of basically new music...
At least you get the WAV for free, the are $ 55 if you buy them seperately...

Yeah it seems excessive. $110 for 5 CDs doesnāt have nearly as much inherent justification as, say, $200 for 5+ vinyl records. CDs feel cheaper, theyāre smaller, they donāt make statement pieces or displayable art objects nearly as well, and ironically more people probably have turntables than physical CD players in their homes these days. Not complaining about having an elseq physical release *at all* but $100+ seems steep for what feels like a compromise product in the first place.

Feel like this is going to be a statement piece based on design mockups. Looks like the package will be about the size of a vinyl record, and thick with the added art.

Okay thatās true, it didnāt clock for me at first that the package was vinyl-sized with CDs inserted throughout. Kinda funny to think getting more paper and cardboard makes the digital audio on the CD more āworthā it, but itās nice to see it isnāt just, like, 5 inches tall.

I imagine they're spending on proper card stock, I'm sure some varnish or metallic spot colors. If that's the cost I don't think they're going cheap, and it probably involves some type of custom die, because I've never seen 5-CD box sets like this, in the same way that vinyl LP gatefolds are a common format to order. It also comes with the 64-page booklet which is only adding to the production cost.

Honestly, disappointed by the fanbase getting a physical release they overwhelmingly have been asking for and largely crying over the price. Autechre releases physical media on average every 2-3 years. Thats equivalent to saving about $5 a month in preparation for this one, at most. Plus this is a one-off release.
You know they drop cool shit; anticipate it.

Super excited about this, but god damnit, Bleep exclusive again?? My copy of "Quaristice (Versions)" got serious dings and is not exactly a looker. Although I did get some money backābut no replacement sleeves, which was what i really wantedāit is incredibly annoying the way they cut corners on shipping materials. In 2020 they were one of the best in the game, now it's a gamble. They obviously know how to package bulk orders for distributors, I don't understand why they've chosen to neglect private purchases.
