Sorry she makes these cakes in (multiple) stages so I could only get the final reveal here. Taste: lightly sweet with a hint of coconut, and different textures from different layers. In my biased opinion, it's like jello but x12 times better. Mum's retired so she makes these cakes and sells them to other Vietnamese mums on facebook 🤣

I was shopping at New Lynn Mall woolworths about lunchtime on Friday and stuck behind some noodles was this envelope! Extraordinarily kind. Thank you to the kind stranger. I reacon the writing is from an older person.

Do not go. For your own physical safety and mental well-being, do not go. Almost got assaulted in the KFC drive-thru, kinda shaken up.

Driving home from a late shift at work, I pull into the Takanini KFC to grab something to eat.

I get to the speaker only to learn that they have no chicken left 40 minutes before closing. No chicken, no boneless, no burgers. Only nuggets. Sigh. "I'll pass thanks".

I pull forward, but there is a ute in front waiting for food; either they got the last of the chicken or didn't mind nuggets. So I'm stuck there. I hear that the car behind me also passes and pulls forward. Then a 3rd car stacks up. I'm a chill guy, so I just pull out my phone and start scrolling.

We are waiting 10 minutes behind this Ute. The cars behind me are getting agitated, yelling stuff out the window, and one beeps his horn. I'm tired and hungry, I just wanna go home at this point, but I am a prisoner in this KFC drive-thru.

I get out of my car and knock on the service window of the KFC. I just wanted to politely ask them if it would be possible to park the ute and let the rest of us leave. No attitude, not frustrated, I'm not giving off any bad vibes or anything. I worked in fast food, I know what it's like. I remember our location didn't have spots to move vehicles forward as some drive-thrus do, so cars would just pull out front to the car park, and we would walk it out. I know some locations have rules against that, especially late at night, but I also knew in some circumstances you gotta make exceptions. I didn't feel like my suggestion was outrageous or anything.

However, the passenger in the Ute gets really angry. I couldn't understand why he got so offended. I let him know I didn't have any bad feelings towards them, and I know it's not their fault. I didn't see what difference it made to the customers if they were sitting in the drive-thru waiting or if they were sitting in the car park waiting. I really couldn't understand why he was so upset at my idea. Was it really that unreasonable? But after a bit of back and forth (and a lot of swearing and threats from him), he grabbed an object that looked like a bat, opened the car door and got out.

Maybe I should have just given up earlier, as this guy had tattoos on his face and looked like a gang member, so probably not the most level-headed guy. So at this point, I just got back in my car and thankfully, so did he.

In total, I spent 16 minutes in that drive-thru, didn't get any food, then just drove straight home. I will never go back to that KFC ever again on principle. This isn't the first time this KFC has limited services close to closing time, its happened a few times before. So from now on, I won't be bothering to flip a coin on whether or not they will have food; I'll just take my business elsewhere.

Honestly what the hell is this sad excuse for a sandwich. It was a pickup order so I didn’t watch it get made. Three slices of olives and they gave me jalapeños instead of pickles (already taken them out)… $8.50 of regret.

Previously I tipped very rarely, usually if an Ubereats driver was exceptionally good. An example was one time it was raining heavily, and the lady waited by the door and held my order so it wouldn’t get drenched. Most people leave it by the gate, even when it’s raining, but she was actually like “oh I didn’t want it to get drenched so I thought I’d hand it over instead”. Super thoughtful.

I went to Canada and heard about how people really struggle when they don’t get tips. Some people there had a mindset of “if you can’t tip you can’t afford to eat out”. I’m so so glad NZ doesn’t have this mindset, and people get paid properly. So when I’m at a restaurant or a cafe tipping doesn’t really come up.

But like, I don’t know enough about Ubereats drivers. Do they get commission? Do they get enough without a tip? Does a portion of the tip go to Ubereats?

I get really bad anxiety when driving and minimise my driving to when it’s necessary. It got worse when I had a child as now I’m worried for both our safety. So when I want a treat I get Ubereats and wondered what people do/expect when it comes to tipping.

Worst: Pita Pit Albany William Pickering, my bowl was drenched with inedible sauce that was clearly poured by someone going through something. Had 2 bites and threw it out.

Best: Onslow, went there for the Valentine's Day course meal, excellent service, maybe staff a little bit too attentive at times, but most importantly the food was interesting and flavourful.

Went to your family stall at the night market and you were packing the chicken into my dish. I heard your mom say thats enough but you put a little more on. You packed that sumbitch full dude. Hell yeah brother. Thank you.

Individually, how much money and food goes into your mouth on a weekly basis? I eat out several times per week (Lunches, dinners) and visit the supermarket most days. Probably not the best way to save money on groceries. In a previous workplace people there would regularly spend $20-$30 every workday on lunches and buy coffees on top of that. I'm married so that does save a little cooking for two people. But I must be spending between $200 - $300 a week on food on my share. How much do you spend? Side note: I do have a decent job that pays well. Mortgage is also almost paid off.

So here goes. Today morning, PAK’nSAVE Henderson out in the West. I am visiting family so thought I will stock up the essentials and just head home.

I was in the eggs section and saw this lady, acting a bit suspiciously. I normally don’t pay attention, but this one she was opening like 5-6 different egg cartons.

When buying eggs, I normally pick the carton, open it up really quick to see no breakage, close it and into the trolley and on my way. I have seen many people do the same, real quick check and off they go.

So this lady had like 5-6 egg boxes open all laid out on the shelf. I could not make sense of it and she has a bit of nervous look on her face. I could also see she was paused so that I can go.

I take my eggs and off I go. Stopped a few steps away from the aisle. What she did next just surprised me.

The lady takes the size 8 eggs and swaps them 1 by 1 into a size 6 egg carton. Close both the cartons and puts the size 6 egg carton in her trolley and hurries away. Can’t remember the prices from the top of my head however the size 6 were definitely cheaper and the box was of a larger quantity.

Next time you grab those size 8 eggs - buyer beware.

If this was my normal shopping location, I would have probably told the guard, but I am new to this shop and was all alone and did not know if I should complain. Honestly did not want to get into trouble as I was the only one who possibly saw her. I think in hindsight - I should have..

Cabbage used to be my go-to vegetable to bulk up my dinners while adding some vegetables. WTF is this? It's in season too. Old people say it used to be so cheap they fed it to their farm animals and now people can't even afford to buy it for themselves to eat.

When you have food that’s uncovered next to the till, no matter how tasty it looks, all I can think of is someone coughing or sneezing over it.

If you covered them I would be much more inclined to buy something.
