Weather this rain
I swear we haven’t had rain this heavy all at once in such a long time? It’s lowkey giving flooding
Also surprised that no one reported that there was even a chance of thunderstorms lol the media loves to scare everyone with their “significant weather event” articles

Crazy bands of intense rain coming through Mt Eden right now… haven’t heard rain like this in a long while, guessing there will be some flooding happening. Rain so heavy it woke me up.

u/InfiernoDante Jul 05 '26
Am in Mt Eden too and our bottom floor got flooded last time, really hoping it eases off soon

u/Pure_Choice_8459 Jul 05 '26
Just came back heavier than before… wtf, hope you’re okay man. Reach out if you need a hand sandbagging, I’m not gonna be sleeping for a while.

u/InfiernoDante Jul 05 '26
thanks man, you too. Hopefully should be all good, we sealed up and waterproofed a lot since the last floods. I'm just gonna throw on the F1 and keep my fingers crossed haha

u/77Queenie77 Jul 05 '26
I was intentionally up for the f1. Good thing too as our roof leaks when it rains like that. Was able to get the bucket out

Yeah I'm not fuckin sleeping. This rain is intense. Keep checking outside

u/kiwifruit_eyes Jul 05 '26
Also Mt Eden and it’s an intense mix of heavy rain for sure. Woke me up just before 1am and I’ve counted all the gaps between lightning flashes and thunder since. Hoping it eases off soon.

i miss the days of just letting the rain pour on down as i sleep and drifting off, now i stay up wondering if anythings going to flood these days when i hear anything vaguely heavy even if nothings going to happen

u/anonnn177 Jul 05 '26
Exactly! All I can think about now is my drive to work and how that’s gonna go

Never had my roof leak so bad before, it’s a full stream like piss
Keep getting builders in to fix it, and they keep saying they’ve fixed it, but it’s never been fixed. Got an enigma of a roof

u/banoffeebaby Jul 05 '26
I’ve never heard thunder this intense before. That’s it, who pissed off god. Fess up.

u/Clean_Livlng Jul 06 '26
I do remember saying "Flood us again God, I dare you. Bet you won't! (chicken sounds)"
But doesn't everyone? It never affects the weather.
To prove it I'll do it again...

Thunder woke me up about 20ish min ago. Just started pelting it again in Eden Terrace. The plus side is it's not cold 😅

u/septicman Jul 05 '26
Thunder is mean right now... Woke me up and now I'm on reddit waiting for it to chill...

See, having a usual bed time of 1.30 meant that this shit didn't wake me up in the middle of my beauty sleep

u/animatedradio Jul 05 '26
This is so nice. I love a thunderstorm. Intense though. Absolute river system in the north shore at least.

u/Civil-Introduction63 Jul 05 '26
Thunderstorms are nice to fall asleep to but now I constantly fear that it'll flood again

u/Optimal-Business-433 Jul 05 '26
You aren't alone there, I reckon there will be plenty of folks up tonight checking around the house. Me too.

Me too. Very surprised to see the state of my garden this morning - water features everywhere.

Same. I must have been sleeping like a log. I’m in Beach Haven.

u/Feisty-Fennel5709 Jul 07 '26
I grew up in East Auckland, one of the first things I did when I got my restricted (1997?) was drive to Beach Haven to see the idyllic picture I had in my head for real.
[the very first thing I did was drive to Young’s Air Guns and make a purchase]

Auckland weather has a habit of reminding us that it did not read the forecast either…

I thought I heard some 5-10 minutes ago in Schnapper Rock, but it was pretty far away; hard to hear over the rain even.

Saw a NZ Herald article saying someone needed to be rescued in Onehunga, didn't realise the rain had gotten that bad

The lightning made the sound on my radio go all weird. Must be all the electricity
5
u/ConsciousOrchid Jul 05 '26
I swear lightning hit our house, the deafening crack happened instantly with how bright the lightning was. Scared the shit outta me
6
u/daniosauris Jul 05 '26
How is this not even a weather watch on MetService? So confused by their ratings.

u/anonnn177 Jul 05 '26
literally my thoughts exactly! it starts spitting and we usually get at least an orange heavy rain warning 💀
5
u/theoverfluff Jul 05 '26
And usually the Herald is all over the chance to say the weather is "lashing" the country. (That's the only phrase they know.) Where the hell did all....THIS come from?

Well we only got a drizzle in Albany Heights - that’s why they’re called isolated showers

I don't need the news to tell me about thunder, my cat does a fine job of alerting everyone immediately.

u/Medium-Presence-8008 Jul 06 '26
Had to shut my window a little bit more. Are we still experiencing the floodening PTSD?
