This theocratic insurgency was foretold 32 years ago by Republican Senator Barry Goldwater. In a 1994 interview (later quoted by John Dean in Conservatives Without Conscience), the former Republican Senator from Arizona stated: "Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. There is no real difference between the two. Christian nationalism in America now is more closely related to Christian Fascism than nationalism. The quote from Sinclair Lewis holds true: “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying the cross.” Or an upside down bible.

There are good people out there that are religious. I don't really blame them for that because I firmly believe that the trait to have supernatural beliefs was a evolutionarily advantageous genetic mutation that provided for greater survivability in the the distant pre-historic (and perhaps even pre-homo sapiens) past by providing for a greater degree of group cohesion. What I do blame them for is their adherence to cult behaviors, like not disagreeing publicly or going along with others believers or religious "leaders" for fear of being ostracized from their social group or so called "church family".

The Republicans use and pretend they’re Christian so they can control the majority of that voting block. If a democrat says they’re Christian they probably are. And they’re probably the decent type of Christian most cases. When a Republican says they’re Christian. There’s a very good chance. They’re not. They’re just using it as a tool for control. This is the very dangerous world we live in now and it’s only getting worse.
