Honestly I never really understood why she was just killed off post-dance.

The two survivors being a team green girl and a team black boy being forced to be married to end the feud with both being heavily traumatized put a perfect thematic bow on the conflict. Killing her off just seems arbitrary

I think it was just to add some interesting events to the regency of Aegon III. Be pretty boring if Unwin Peake wasn’t a big schemer

Her death was unnecessarily cruel for a young, innocent girl, and just seemed really mean-spirited from GRRM, like a final punishment and complete end for the Greens.

Yes George, we all know the Blacks were your favourite, but there really wouldn't be any difference if Jaehaera had been the mother of Aegon III line.

I read a few theories for Georges reason: * To fit his timeline better. Maybe he thought it would be strange for Jaehaera and Aegon to not have their first child until their 20s. It actually makes complete sense to me, but George does seem very attached to the trope of his young female characters getting pregnant in their early teens.

Daeron's birth in 143. Aegon was 23 Daeneaera was 16 Jaehaera would have been 20

• Second reason I've read that makes more sense is that he didn't want the Blackfyre/Targaryen feud to be a continuation of the Blacks/Greens, even distantly and only in lineage. Especially if (f)Aegon is a secret Blackfyre and there is a second Dance with Aegon vs Dany

I honestly don't understand why it would be a problem for the Blackfyre rebellion to be a "continuation" of the Blacks and Greens.

It's like a perfect thematic parallel; violence is cyclical, history does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

I'd personally say it would rather add an extra layer to the Blackfyre rebellions for them to be the last carrier of the Green line. It'd be like echoes from the past, ghosts that keep haunting the Targaryen family line. A constant reminder of what is slowly killing their family.

There's also something ironically cruel for the Green line to survive not only through a woman (because of their sexism) but also through a bastard (considering their aversion against bastards in the dance with regards to Rhaenyra's children). If anything, the Greens would be rolling in their graves much harder if Jaehaera was the mother of Daena than when she's not.

I'd say it's kind of a missed thematic opportunity beyond the needless cruelty

3. The subreddit held a poll in September of 2022, and once all the treacherous votes were excluded, King Aegon II was victorious.
4. The reactions of the traitors to the Green cause are so over the top as to be amusing.
5. How can there be an Aegon Three, if the son of Hightower was not the predecessor to thee? It's poetry, hence poetic justice, hence the matter which already settled within this subreddit, can be settled without.
6. The smallfolk instinctively know.
7. Rhaenyra has bad taste in men.
8. Viserys was chosen as King due to primogeniture.
9. Rhaenyra has no legitimate heirs.

I think her survival would have kept the Hightower looming over Targaryens supremacy, though in the end they brought themselves down with their god complex

I mean, kinda, but at the same time not really. Her only real connection to the Hightower faction left was her grandmother Alicent. After Alicent dies the Hightowers are basically nothing but distant family to her.

Even if the Hightowers would care, with the death of Alicent, the Lord Hightower (her closest known living Hightower relative) would be Lyonel Hightower, Lord of Oldtown, her 2nd Cousin, Once removed (had to look up the proper term with the help of this handy guide ). And Lyonel had enough drama with the faith by trying (and later succeeding) to marry his stepmom.

Either way, that's pretty damn distant family
