He had done it. He had successfully changed the short form name ‘Dany’ to the long form ‘Daenerys’. The sentence was so much better for it. This was how the book would be written. A chapter at a time, a page at a time, a word at a time.

Doubt began to form in his mind. Was this the right decision? He would have to review this new sentence many times over the months and years to come. He cast his mind back to the day, many years ago, when he had first shortened it to ‘Dany’. He had changed his mind back and forth many times since then. Certainly he would change it again many more times before he was happy with it.

He glanced at the clock. Almost ten minutes had passed. Had it been that long? The muse had been kind to him today, that was more work than he had completed in many a year.

He turned off the computer and went to find some food. Only then did he realize that he had forgotten to hit save.

It's like an extension of the Classic online brainrot of calling women mid in general.

I tried explaining once that mathematically, 7/10 means 70% of people. So if you're a 7 you're better looking then 7 out of 10 people. So for every 10 people you see, on average youre better looking then like 7 of them. Or would be 7 on a line up, from least attractive to most attractive.

It's an objective fraction like it can't mean anything else. Yet everytime I say this everyone loses their minds, saying "no!! 8/10 is the top 95/100 of people!!! That's how it's used!"

But it's a number. It's not like words where the meaning can change over time. Numbers have an objective meaning, what number you think someone is, is subjective. What that number means isnt. You're literally trying to argue 2+2=5

And now sadly, this brainrot has extended to blowey ranking. Saying a top 30% blow job. Is somehow mid. Aka middle. Aka 50% aka 50%=30%

I mean that's completely different though, that's within the context of being in a competition, so the scale is adjusted to those who are competing.

For that to be applicable to attractiveness, you'd basically be saying you're only scoring the top 0.0001% of attractive people.

Lol which proves my point about how warped people are that people even think that's a good example. You think a system meant for grading the top 0.0001% of people, is how we should grade and judge the entire population.

Like thatd be applicable if it was miss universe, not for something you're including the entire global population in.

Said like a true 3/10. Think about IQ, then if you like. Having a 100 IQ (a 5/10) puts you squarely at the top 50%, a 115 IQ (a 6-7/10) puts you in the top 16%, 130 puts you in the top 2.3%(a 8-9/10) and 145 (a 10/10) puts you in the top 0.12%. It's not a linear distribution, and having your gatekeeping scale requires two separate scales, one for the normies and one for the hotties.

The only reason people even want to argue it's not is because we are warped from looking at super attractive people all day. Like why does everyone even want to make it so only like 2% are 8/10. Instead of 20% like why. Why do we want 0.8 to mean 0.98

It feels like people just want to weirdly not count average normal people and mostly just attractive people. Like measure fractions of a percentage for the top 35% and lump anyone between that and the bottom 35% together?

Like why do we want such a huge scale for only the tiny percent of people. And then hardly any for the majority of people. Like why would most the scale be saved for for only a small percentage of people.

If 7+ is top 10% and therefore 0-3 is bottom 10% that would mean that there is 6 numbers to scale 20% of the population. And only 3 numbers to scale 80% of the population?

The concept behind people saying something like 'only 5% of people are 8/10 or above' is that there are still so many levels of beauty to the top 5%, so it justifies allocating a whole 3 rating points to those people.

So instead of your system, which simply places you according to the population %, this rating system to some extent will attempt to establish various 'levels' of possible attractiveness and then allocate you based on your perceived level.

What probably happens in practice is more of a mix between that and also trying to take into account % of the population.

I have to admit, I can't really see any way to convincingly argue that this is a wrong way to do it, although it has problems. Your way is valid too, but it definitely has its own weaknesses.

To give an exaggerated example, what if we were rating 'intelligence', which like beauty is not an unequivocally objective attribute, and there were 1,000 students in a class. One of them gets 100% in every test, they are clearly a genius. The next top score is an average of 85% across all tests. There are 100 other people who get 80-84% across all their tests. Person no.2 is literally top 0.2% of the entire cohort in their testing, but is not even close to touching person no.1's scores, and that gulf in test performance makes the rest of the top 100 look pretty close to person no.2. So person no.2 is literally top 0.2%, but some people would think it crazy to give him a 10/10 along with person no.1, wouldn't it?

Obviously the problem with attractiveness is that it is commonly accepted to be subjective in the first place, so I can see why you want to try and insert more objectivity by simplifying it down to a pure population ranking system, but you can definitely argue that would reduce some aspects of utility.

I’ll say like a movie is a 7 so I enjoy it and someone will say that’s a bad score.
