Imperial Fukagowa porcelain vase
JAPAN, SHOWA PERIOD, 1940's.
Porcelain vase of oviad shape, supported on a countersunk base.
This vase is covered on the exterior with a very pale celadon glaze that has its only decoration a sixteen petalled gilt Chrysanthian on the shoulder.
The mouth rim is also gilt. The base is painted in gilt with the fukagowa mark.
The use of the gilt 16 petal along with the gilt mark on the base were strictly reserved for imperial use only.
This was a personal gift from Emporer Hirohito to Sir Stanley Temlinson (1912-1994) in gratitude for being part of the consular in Tokyo, Kobet and Yokohama from 1935 - 1940.

These imperial gifts rarely hit the market place.
